AUTHENTIC Vietnamese food in DA NANG: Ốc Len + Mi Quảng and more

Once again i'm on the lookout for the most authentic Vietnamese food I can find. It's difficult when I don't really know what that is and research only takes you so far. In this video, I was inspired by some of your recommendations to check out Max McFarlin's KZbin channel. I instantly subscribed to his channel and proceeded to head straight to Chợ Cồn Market for some of the best Vietnamese food I have had to date. I completely ripped off his video and two of the locations he did here. Totally worth it!
I also met up with my new friend Violetta and her family for some more food explorations in the Hải Châu district. She wanted to show me some of her favourite local spots in the neighbourhood. She knows her food and everything we ate was out of this world good.
Chợ Cồn Market:
At Ốc Hà I try both the Ốc Len & Ốc đá. The sauce she cooks the snails in is mind numbingly good. Lemongrass and chili overload - maps.app.goo.gl/B9nq3BevQUhi1...
At Quán Hoa Xù I try their Kem bà and che. The star here is the coconut cream. Do NOT miss this if in Danang. No map link here. They are Located opposite aisle from Ốc Hà in Chợ Cồn Market
Hải Châu district:
Út - Bún riêu thập cẩm Sài Gòn - Crab noodle soup with everything. excellent Blood sausage and a flavourful broth

Bánh Canh -NGA - Yet another crab noodle soup thập cẩm(mixed) style. What distinguishes this one is the Bánh Canh. You can get either rice noodles or the chewy tapioca noodles.

Mì Quảng Giao Thủy - Mì Quảng is a staple food item for Central Vietnam and here I try both an eel and a frog version. Mi Quang is a quasi salad/soup with noodles and a protein. Think of the soup broth as your "dressing" for your salad. This is one of the better locations for Mi Quang I have visited.

That market is awesome. I went back to try other stalls without a camera. 😂 All food is relatively cheap in Vietnam. Just have to watch out for the ones that want to charge foreigners 3x more. Best to always ask in advance how much and don't rely on posted signs.

As I said before, you should try it with eel, there are dozens of delicious dishes made from eel in Vietnam, eel porridge, eel soup, braised eel with young banana and tofu..., oh my mouth is watering.

Everything you tried looks delicious! The oc store and banh canh cua is where I'd park myself and devour until I burst. You've yet to try the coconut snails and also the clams/oysters/etc. with scallion oil and peanuts on them. BTW, che is pronounced like the word yeah but with more of a j sound. Just use the j sound for all words that start with ch or tr (makes it easier for English speakers). And blood cake is different than blood sausage, which I think you misspoke when you kept mentioning blood sausage. Blood sausage in Vietnam has herbs in it and is actually flavorful and delicious! The quay (fried breadstick) is typically eaten dipped into the soup or torn and tossed on to soak up the broth before eating. That place likely is ran by northerners as they are more into quay with their soups.

Nope, haven't had the coconut snails yet. Honestly I don't recall seeing them anywhere outside of HCMC so far. Should have tried them when I was there. I did do scallops and pen shells with scallion oil and peanuts in the guided tour in HCMC. And yes, I misspoke when saying blood sausages. For some unknown reason I have always referred to any type of blood cube as blood sausages. If I run into the Quay again I will try your suggestion.

I love Max McFarlin's content also. Just curious what did your American and Russian friends think of the snails. You probably already know, but snails are a sustainable and affordable source of protein.

You should definitely try the frog. It's delicious! Maybe try the fried or curried version first if you're scared. It tastes like a cross between chicken and fish.

There are too many dishes for me to introduce to you. I was in the North when I worked there for 1 week and there were 4 days where I ate new dishes without duplicates. The central region is very famous for seafood and it is quite cheap compared to Hà Nội.

I can only imagine how many dishes there are that I have not had the chance to sample yet. I will be here for 90 days and I am certain I will barely scratch the surface of Vietnamese cuisine. Guaranteed I will return to Vietnam for another round

Vietnamese cuisine is nothing outstanding but diverse and accessible, the skillful combination of sauces makes the dish more delicious. I'm from the North so I don't like Central or Southern dishes. I prefer Hanoi dishes because they retain the original flavors and are very delicate. Thank for videos

@@PureDetour You got more views initially because a lot of overseas Viets are ONLY interested in HCMC, many will not bother to watch content not related to that specific city. Also, it was your first video, which people like first impression videos. Central Vietnam probably has the best food, but won't get as many views (maybe Hoi An because it's touristy and people like to see it). You might get more views as you head to Hanoi and do food tours and such, but it depends on the youtube algorithm.

Typical Asia. Someone elses party at your table, passing cash over your food, sketchy tables...😂 I've had a boiling hot pot on a folding tray table. Told the wife that if someone bumps the table, be ready to jump away from the boiling soup. In China, they share small tables. If there's an open seat, it's fair game. My neighbor slurps and the splash ends up in my food and on my hands...when in Rome?😂

Correct my friend. No different really from a carinderia in Manila to a busy rural Kopitiam in Malaysia or a night market in Thailand. Personal space just isn't a thing and i'm ok with that.😂 This "food court" had about a 5' walkway between stalls and room for maybe 6 people to sit at each stall. It got super busy very quickly. If I had showed up 5 minutes later I wouldn't have been able to eat all.😂

In the market? I intentionally left the sound unfiltered there so people could get the feel of the intensity of the market. I did filter it a bit at the other locations but only slightly and they are loud there too.
