His books are keepers...I was looking for a used copy of "A Gentleman in Moscow" and never found it! People keep his books...darn it!😄

The Big Roads by Earl Swift (great last name, right?) covers the entire development of the US Highway system including the Lincoln Highway. Towles background is similar to Michael Lewis.

Mr. Towles is, himself, so delightfully civil. Humility, humor and nice to see a happy author! Keep story telling Amor!

I enjoyed The Lincoln Highway and feel it is very consciously working hard to weave in the American canon: Huck Finn, Faulkner and even Kerouac, and I loved many parts of the book, but I was frustrated with some things left hanging in the open (no spoilers from me), and I can see how a sequel could easily follow. Towles is great at realizing character, but his hand seems unequal, as the key protagonist needed more fleshing out. Well worth reading. The Amazon best seller list is dominated by Harry Potter, so I think I can give that a miss. Towles hooked me with his amassed Americana, rich details of time and place.

I think you summed the book up perfectly. It really is an Americana story, steeped in loose ends.

It's unfortunate Amor Towles isn't a better writer.

Can you unpack that a bit more for us? I find him to be remarkably talented.

@@matthew4694 His prose isn't as tight as I would like, and his dialogue is predictable. This is a subjective analysis of of his novels, because I'm biased towards avant-garde fiction.
