I applaud Ms. Wilkinson for writing a rich history of her ancestral culinary lineage. Ms. Wilkinson's poetry, stories, and novels are rooted in the Black Appalachian landscape, culture, and communities.

I'm glad she refrained from centering whiteness in her narrative when asked the distinction between the two. Let our stories be our stories without brining up white people. We had/have lives outside of whiteness.
