Many of these books are for teens, not children. It's not required, it's just available. Reading books like this opens you up to different ideas, world views and lives other than their own. It's called learning and perspective.

They aren't being forced to read these books. Just bc you don't like reality that other share doesn't mean the books shouldn't be available to be accessed by others. Don't like the book, don't read it. I thought freedom of speech was good. I thought censorship is fascism

@@bgood1532 I bet you haven't taught anything to your kids about sex. If you feel that way homeschool. It does belong in the school library. Did you listen to this man? If your don't want your kid to read those books, then don't let them check it out, but don't take if off the shelves for everyone else. Some kids can't get to the local library, but they can get to the school library. You don't wanna read it, don't. Don't take it from the shelves.

Any responsible parent wants their child to be prepared to be a success in the future. Their futures are even more diverse and multicultural than ours. How can they be prepared if they have no understanding of perspectives and experiences outside their own, and how to negotiate those differences?
