speech delay isnt what autism is, speech depay can be a standalone condition. Meanwhile some autistics (like me) had no speech delay whatsoever

Thank you so much for this video. Really helped me understand what to expect. Our pediatrician suggested that we take our child for autism assessment and it's been little worrysome for us because it felt like we failed as parent but knowing that many other kids out there also has it, subtles our worry a bit. And this video helps us know what to expect and just keep our mind bit at ease. Hopefully everything works out well.

Autism is something people are born with. It has absolutely zero to do with parents. That is an old and incorrect mythology.

I have been watching so many videos like this , but I don't see the ones that explain my 3 years old situation. My soon to be 3 5 years old used to talk until June he started talking to himself in jargon language. Completely in his own world and can communicate by pointing and I forced him to tell me what he wants and now he does sometimes. He makes eye contact and he forgot some stuff he used to know like saying his name when you ask him his name

Kids can have speech delay without autism. I have friends who didn't start talking till 3 and all they needed was a push from speech therapy. They aren't autistic

I really appreciate the experienced insight into the ADOS testing! I have a question about Maggie’s performance on the test. You said she completed all the requirements because she’s gone thru the testing so many times, how do the test admins determine that her score is still so high? Is it based on verbal skills? Or are the test administrators people who see her outside of the testing? Just really curious about that 😊 Thank you
@Autmazing4 жыл бұрын
I am really not sure how they determine her score, and I know her social worker was wondering the exact same thing. I think it must have something to do with how she does it and how even though it's technically right it's still awkward of like she's acting I guess? Like they say look and so she turns her head and looks at this poster of a polar bear and then turns her head back and looks at you like "okay I did it." So I think a huge portion of her score must be based on her communication difficulties and maybe what they refer to as "affect." Oh, and I know her scripting whenever they ask about things like eloping (because she does not like being talking about) always bumps it up too.

I am severe autism and I just got a 19 so if it’s turn on over you up severe if it’s 5 to 9 do you have middle and if you’re if you’re under five you’re one but if you have zero that you missed you are not autistic

Question, you have 2 girls both diagnosed? Are they typically taller than their peers? What was birth weight?
@Autmazing4 жыл бұрын
At this point all five of our kids and me and my husband have been diagnosed. Our kids are pretty tall, like their dad and all were between 8-10 lbs.
@melissar19924 жыл бұрын
@@Autmazing of course genes very as does environment but I'm seeing alot of research indicating height in early childhood and ASD. I have 1 SD diagnosed ADHD and I SD, 5, who I believe is on the spectrum. Both consistently 98% in height.

@@melissar1992 I don't know any proof but my daughter is way taller for her age. She just turned 3 today but when I told people today is her birthday and they were like , is she 5 now . So I kind of believe it.

@@hat1631 I believe it is related to the shank3 gene and a mutation on 22q13. My 5yo was just diagnosed with MLD which is on the same gene. It relates to Phelan-McDermid syndrome.

@@melissar1992I have ASD and I was always low in height percentiles for my age. Unless you can find reputable studies that definitively prove a link between height and ASD, I would not consider it true science. Anyone can speculate about any topic, but that does not make the speculations true.
