Can someone tell me where i go to get my son diagnosed i tried neurologist they sent me to development and ive left 3 voice messages.
@memyself7956 Жыл бұрын
My 5 yo was diagnosed w severe autism, but it was later changed to mild. My mom watched my son for his first year 1/2 & all she did was read to him & sing nursery rhymes. They watched very little tv & when they did my mom kept it on PBS & Daniel Tiger became my son's first best friend. At age 18 mo my mom told me there was something different & noticed he wasn't completing his words. He was bubbly, smiled & laughed all the time & is good natured, but we had never been around anyone that was autistic, so we didn't pick up on any of the signs. The only thing that he did excessively was rock which he still does, but not as much as he used to. I immediately got him into speech therapy & had him evaluated. Long story short, he started OT & is now 5 & in pre-k. I almost didn't enroll him bc at the time, he could not even write the first letter of his name & I was terrified of how the other kids would treat him & even teacher's. Now, he writes his name, counts to 20, says his alphabet (actually my mom had him doing that around 3), went to his first birthday party where the little boy's father told me that his son doesn't like a lot of people, but loves my son. When my son's school evaluated him (which is mandatory) they said he was learning at the level of a 3 yr old. I cried. He is very sweet, a great little helper & loves playing w his little brother who is 4. I'm just really proud of him & he amazes me EVERY DAY. I love seeing videos like this & reading the comments. It gives me hope & helps me feel less alone, so if you made it this far in my comment, thank you!

My grandson is on the spectrum but has improved dramatically over the years to where it is barely noticeable. As an infant he did not make eye contact, he exhibited repetitive behaviors and fixations with electronic devices like cell phones, he did not “switch gears” easily when a situation or schedule changed. The biggest red flag was that he was still not talking at 2 years old. At that point my daughter got him speech therapy WHICH TOTALLY CHANGED HIM. once he was able to communicate verbally his world and interactions opened up dramatically. He was able to go to public school with additional services due to his official IEP diagnosis. He is 17 years old today, a junior in high school, very bright, and has obtained a pilot’s license which allows him to fly unaccompanied. There are good endings but I cannot stress how important the speech therapy was in helping to unlock his social skills and potential.

Thank you for sharing Simon's story with us! He and Ezra (and your non-autistic children of course) will all have wonderful lives thanks to your love and support. I am a 40 year old woman and just completed an autism assessment with a psychologist. As a young child my presentation was similar to Simon's. IIRC I toe-walked once in a while until I was about eight, and I had fixations, meltdowns, and sensory sensitivities. But there was no speech delay and no ID, and because I was social and had friends, no one realized. The social difficulties only became noticeable to me when I was around middle school age. Back then autism wasn't well understood and there was no formal recognition or help for me, but my parents were attuned to my needs and accommodated me in their own way. Routines, a stable home life, plenty of rest, alone time when needed, and unconditional love are essential. Simon is very lucky to be diagnosed this early and to have you two as his parents!

Thank you for telling Simon's story! We are currently walking through this with our 2 year old, and he sounds an awful lot like Simon. Our older children are 12 and 16, and are neurotypical, so this is all new to us. There are so many things he can do, and does well, and he has developed physically ahead of schedule, that it's been difficult to accept that we are likely headed for an autism diagnosis. Right now, he just looks like a somewhat quiet 2 year old to most of the world, but we know from watching family members walk a similar road that early intervention is key. It's just so good to hear from another family parenting a child with the same signs and symptoms as our little guy, so thank you so much for sharing!

@shannonrose437010 ай бұрын
Did you just compare yourself after learning about autism and give yourself that diagnosis or Did you actually get that diagnosis from an actual doctor or specialist? If you went 70 years and not one doctor ever mentioned it before, you could have another type of diagnosis you need evaluated for. People tend to relate to one thing and think they have it, when there’s more to it than that.

Thanks for reaching out, and sorry to hear about some of the concerns you have for your boy. You are the best judge of things, as you are with him the most. If you have some concerns, I would definitely get him checked out by a professional. We have shared and shown a lot of our 2 kids who have been diagnosed with autism in our autism playlist here. Watching and seeing how different Ezra and Simon are and yet how they both have autism can give you a perspective as to how broad the spectrum can be. Are you in the US? Most states have some type of an early intervention program that can really help you out and give you a lot of resources. Let's keep in touch, and much love your way. ❤️
Thank you for sharing this. It is absolutely eerie how much your son here is like my two-year-old son now who so far was diagnosed with developmental delay. The pacing through the room, the handflapping, the lack of verbal communication, the fixation on weird parts of toys, playing with mom's body (for us it's pinching my skin) and the toe-walking... It's exactly the same! This helped me put a lot of things in perspective, thank you!

Hi, I’m 32 and just got diagnosed with “mild ASD - female version” last week. I guess my doctor got specific with it because even after over 30years of working with clients with ADHD and/or on the spectrum, I’m still sociable and well-adjusted enough for her to seriously started considering ASD only after seeing me for ADHD and mixed-mood disorder for over 1.5year (on the other hand, she confirmed my ADHD diagnosis after just one session). Thank you for sharing this video on Simon because I was exactly as sociable and always laughing according to my mother’s description of me as a baby and toddler. That has always been the strongest “point of evidence” for my family, almost all friends, and other professionals (including one in the family that doesn’t work with people on the spectrum) to say how I’m ‘obviously’ not autistic in anyway. I really hope your video can bring comfort to those who have been confused or meeting roadblocks in their evaluations because the DSM is unable to include all outliers that don’t fit their general “checklist”.

Thank you all so much for being such a wonderful and supportive family and for posting these videos! They give great insight into what autism is and what it can be like when on the spectrum. I did not realize that the symptoms could be so much different from one child to the next. As I watch, I realize that there are more symptoms/behaviors that my grandson has been engaging in. He always walks on his tippy toes, does NOT like when you take away his ipad at all, does a lot of hand flapping and vocal stimming as well. Oddly enough, I realized that some of those behaviors are ones that I have done since I was a kid, but no one really knew as much about autism at that time. I really enjoy watching your family interact and seeing how patient you all are with Ezra and Simon. Again, thank you all so much!!!

I have high functionning autism and I love hearing about other people with autism. You should totally do a video on Ezra. One thing that I should point out is that Simon being so social will help him a lot when he gets older. I was always seen as a pretty social kid and that helped me when I was in school to find friends even though I wasn’t diagnosed until I was 18. I hid my autism really well but, that was at a cost. It took so much energy to hide my autism that I was always exausted and stuggled a lot in school because of that. Once I got diagnosed, I slowly stopped hiding my autism and my grades went from 60% to 90+% in most classes. Take this from me, encourage your children to act themselves and not hide their autism, it will help them a lot and allow them to focus on the important things like relationships, school, work, etc. Yes, people with autism can, depending on where they are on the spectrum and what help they’ve received, hold down a job. I have a normal job just like any other adult, the only adjustment that my boss has been nice enough to make is to always make sure that things are explained clearly with no double meaning. What I mean is, don’t expect me to understand that if you’re saying « Good job » in a certain tone it means that I can improve. I won’t be able to make that link. So, whenever I have a meeting at work, my boss will always have some time to explain something to me if I didn’t understand it. He’s aware of my autism so, sometimes, if he think that there can be a double meaning to something that was said, he’ll take me to the side later on to make sure that I understood the correct meaning. He also makes sure that his expectations are clear with me. Like, instead of telling me « You can improve on your ladder manipulations », he’ll tell me something like « When you’re holding your ladder, I’d like to work on doing x » then, he’ll demonstrate. That way he makes sure that I understand. It’s something pretty small but, it helps a LOT. So, I just wanted to reassure you that it’s not because you’re autistic that you can’t live a normal life. I live alone at 19 and I get the help of an educator for certain things about once/week or 2. We are hoping tho, that I’ll be independant for the autism side of things soon (I have other diagnoses that will require more treament and help, but I shouldn’t need an educator to come every week for more then 2 years, in fact, I’ve been told that they’re aiming for me no longer needing the educator after only 1 year of treaments). Good luck to you all!

My son is 3 years old. We have been back and forth on wondering if he has autism since he was 1. But, he loves to cuddle. Makes great eye contact and is very social. We have a second appointment for testing coming up soon and I'm just ready for some answers. Thank you for sharing about your son, because it helps me feel like I'm not crazy for thinking mine might have it. My son currently goes to speech therapy, and occupational therapy for sensory issues. He will be four in a couple of months and still have a lot of babble when talking, mixed with clear words and sentences. He loves to line cars up in straight lines. He doesnt like for toys to get moved out of order. Its just been such a mixture of signs that he is and yet he seems normal. And every research that I've tried always starts with, no eye contact and not social and that never fits. But the hand flapping and the repetitive actions; that fits. So nice to see how supportive you guys are to your children. I did not get diagnosed till I was 37. I am 42 now and a nurse practitioner working at a hospital. I had many of these characteristics. I was a talker but had very peculiar speech habits. I had much trouble with pronouns. When I went to kindergarten, I still called my parents by their first names and referred to myself in third person saying my name instead of me or I. I got bullied and abused pretty bad most my life because I was just off enough to be viewed as weird, arrogant, selfish, ect. My stimming and masking had been masked so long that I was experiencing a lot of health problems including back pain, migraines, IBS, ect. These symptoms plus depression and anxiety led me on a path to trying to figure out the main reasons for my issues. Ultimately this led to my being diagnosed on the spectrum which has been life changing and really helped.

I’m on the spectrum, too. I have Asperger’s syndrome, which is basically mild autism, and I’m 14 years old and most of my friends have Asperger’s syndrome, too. I hit all my milestones when I was little. When I was 10 months old, I even tried to stand up. I’m also a very good artist. I was 3 when I started drawing. The first thing (characters) I ever drew were Toopy and Binoo. My favourite show when I was little was Toopy and Binoo anyways. I communicate well. The one thing I’m obsessed with is KZbin. I could just binge watch videos and make videos 12 hours a day. My brother watches KZbin half the day, too, and he has mild ADHD, no Autism. But still, the thing is, I’m on the Autism spectrum. :3

Just wanted to encourage you both. We adopted a 2 yr old with autism and cerebral palsy plus some other physical issues. Our lovely young man is now 36 and a love..he may always be with us..but the we found a hobby we can all do.. Sailing. I think the most important thing is inclusion and then learn to keep distractions from triggering behaviors. Our boy has graduated from high school, drives a car and takes good care of his two cats. Eye contact physical contacts still hard..but he does have a great sense of humor. His physical issues as he gets older are harder to handle. We are so lucky to have him..abdxto have found ways to help him succeed. Doctors will help. But it really comes down to you as parents and being advocates.

Thank you for differentiating between “mild autism” and “profound/high needs” autism. There is a huge difference and when we lump them together, those with more profound Autism get lost in the messaging. Profound autism requires different services and supports. When we only talk about those with mild autism, we white wash, ignore, and overlook the often very difficult realities for those most profoundly impacted, including their overwhelmed parents and families. When you think about Tim, please consider the wide spectrum of presentation and needs. Autism can be an identity for some and a profound disability requiring intensive lifelong for others. And there’s nothing wrong with disability… It’s a part of the human condition.

This is such a fascinating video. I know at least a dozen kids who walk on tip toes, have speech delay, socially awkward, stim, obsess over things and have major meltdowns and their parents would never get them tested because “they are just kids”. Do you think there are many children who are not diagnosed or it is more complicated then that?

My sister (who is level one like Simon) was diagnosed late (around age thirteen or fourteen) because (like Simon) she didn’t really fit the stereotype. For example, like Simon she made eye contact starting around age two. Also, she supposedly started talking slightly earlier than Simon. In addition she said her first “four-letter-words” and sentences containing them shortly after she turned two. After her diagnosis it made sense because she has sensory sensitivities, does not handle changes in routine well, occasionally makes too much eye contact or too little (like I do but with her the difficulties are not as noticeable). Also, she sometimes struggles with understanding irony, sarcasm, and jokes (but not quite as much as I struggle with it). Like me she has some difficulties with understanding facial expressions and other body language but it is sometimes not easy to notice.

My older brother was diagnosed with severe autism (Still has severe autism) when he was a toddler and an early intervention program my parents got him in also got me tested for autism. @@gabby8016It was a really good program for both of us. It's a preschool but for kids with autism where we got individual support both there and at home. We also went on a lot of community outings as a group and played a lot of fun games, sang songs and did some other activities at the school. We also learned (At least I learned) quite a lot of things like what's safe and dangerous, how to follow instructions, numbers and basic math so basically just basic preschool stuff while getting the early intervention we needed. We also had help with potty training which both me and my brother struggled with a lot (My brother still strugles a little bit with it). So yes It helped us quite a lot and we both really liked it.

Hi! Great video. I have a comment that please do not take as critique or any thing of the sorts. As an autistic female, I didn't get a diagnose until very recently because autism in girls looks very different than boys. It is the same things but presents differently. The manuals focused a lot on how autism presents as young boys so it doesn't get recognized on girls by professionals in many case until they have their own autistic children and/or they are struggling with their adult life., and compared to boys, girls mask their autism extremly well in many cases. I don't know your daughter to say if she is or not, but since it is genetic, if you haven't already (which you might have) I recommend at your own discretion looking at autism presentation on females and see if it might impact her. Sometimes one needsx to find people specialized on female autism. Thanks again for sharing this video.

I'm watching this video because I know a family who has a child, at 1 1/2 who has no effort at speech, does not use the mouth or throat to make sounds. Other red flags seem to be present. Very afraid of noisy toys, not much eye contact. No effort at including others in his play. No pointing. Doesn't accept anyone to participate in his activities. We are now working together to learn more about autism and understand how to help him. Doctor said to wait a few more months and to check for hearing problems, before trying to get a diagnosis. It's good to know that things can get better.

I had to defend a lot of people who had different disabilities. I would do it for every single one of you right now your whole family and that is a straight up drive to your brothers house shake his head personally just a touch And sing the way I have two someone’s born who gave me the best Christmas present I’ve ever gotten from anyone outside my family except the one I just gave mine this is serious business. I won’t be coming to see the little ones you did something very good for a very good person who had nothing Very misdiagnosed, but he was very quiet about everything that could be took personally with Simon if he ever gets mad, talk to him very softly and try to get him. I think the daughter with right now would be the best person possible if he gets in and like how she loves him so much he wants to see him so much because he’s so cute and he’s the baby but he also she also feels bad about it. You could ask her that Are you are you strong do you have a favorite one over the other because the baby is the baby so cute right now I’m sure he was like he was like that with Ezra that’s how I am. I know things like that I kept on myself because I’m a male want to watch children though I don’t want to say it but I really don’t different way I wanna say yeah I am with this all day you spell understands though what is too hard for your future city

Thank you for sharing. Can relate to this so much. My son was diagnosed when he was 3 1/2 after so many people telling us that he was doing so many things that a lot of people would say that autistic children didn’t do. He is almost 5 now - he is very good at masking, he is quite social now and very caring. As he doesn’t have an intellectual delay that can be so often associated with autism he doesn’t “look” like he is autistic (whatever people think that autism is meant to look like 😅)

I got diagnosed at age 13. Now looking back I had many signs Simon had and more ASD signs, my signs got overlooked because the only thing my parents knew about autism was about very severe manifestations of autism. I'm level 1 and I also masked, they just thought I was quirky. Another thing is that I was born female and some signs manifest in different ways in some females. I'm hispanic and transgender so that is another thing that may overlap. Wish you and your kids the best.

My youngest son was diagnosed right before he turned 4 only because I advocated so hard and sought out professionals who didn’t just brush off my concerns. At that age, he was super social, had a very impressive vocabulary, and mostly just appeared to be extremely adhd. Fast forward to now at age 8 and the autism is much more noticeable. He is no longer social with anyone except known and trusted individuals, needs help navigating friendships and social interactions, has extreme anxiety, and really struggles with any change in routine. I think a lot of things change for these kids as they get older, more self aware, and social expectations grow and change.

We have to be such strong advocates because many professionals will definitely brush you off. I feel like that regarding my grandson’s pediatrician… my daughter is very passive. She doesn’t push. My grandson is two. I’ve been noticing things and gently telling my daughter.. however, she’s in denial. He’s 2.5 years old… isn’t talking a lot. Low vocabulary… he tries communicating, but struggles. Flat face most times, took a long time to respond to his name being called. It was like he didn’t hear you calling him. It was if his mind would be elsewhere. He’s better with it now. It took a long time to start saying mama. He started crawling and walking on time, but has always been very VERY hyper … VERY hyper.. since he was a baby. Almost like he has a motor/battery pack in him. That has calmed down since he started childcare (school). We love him tremendously. I just want him to get the help he needs. I attended an appointment with him this week, after pushing my daughter again… I advocated for him to get speech therapy because it’s no way he should be this behind. He babbles more than talk. Since I’ve been home on vacation, I’ve been working closely with him and watching him. He gets frustrated a little when trying to communicate and he does not know how to say the words. I’ve worked patiently with him to take me to what he wants or show me what he wants. It helps him a lot. Helps him feel heard/understood.

Wow, thanks for sharing and being such an amazing advocate for your grandchild! We agree that sometimes you really have to push to get the care that you need, but it is definitely worth the effort. It sounds like if you could get some speech therapy going that would be very beneficial, best of luck! Keep in touch. Much love❤️

I’m totally on the spectrum, and I apparently didn’t really start talking until I was three. But then I went on to do speech and debate for 8 years, taught public speaking, got a masters in communications, and grew into being an excellent writer. It’s to the point I wish I had not hyperfocus Ed on those skills and went into engineering! lol. All that is to say that minor delays like his do not mean he will never catch up if not surpass his peers in those skills. But also, learning how to best communicate with neurotypical people isn’t necessarily everyone’s calling. Whatever he develops an interest in I’m sure he will excel at. I think that’s what I’d want parents of children like him to know. It’s great to know so that extra support can be given when needed, and to allow for patience as certain things may take longer to develop. But also these kids are so bright, just because they are on a different timeline doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing.

I have one grandson who has ADHD fairly severely, he is turning seven on the Fourth of July of this year, and now it appears that his younger sibling, who is a sweet little boy of almost 3 is autistic. The younger sibling has a totally different personality from his brother. He is calm cool and collected. However, he is too calm cool and collected. He has little to no language and my daughter has just obtained the paperwork where he will be tested for autism. I am so relieved for this younger grandson to be able to get the help that he will need. To my layman’s eyes, he appears to be mild. He is engaging with people he knows but holds back socially with his peers which is one thing that concerned me when he was a young two year old. He’d rather play by himself with his toys. In group play he very much ignores other children (unless he has engaged with them in group play several times and he is familiar with then) He has a fixation with textures and his play with toys is very repretative and lengthy. He is speech delayed but is receiving services for that which has led him to being in line now for autism testing. He has a few words but is not consistent in using them. He seems very on par physically for his age as far as strength and dexterity go. He very much seems to understand and follow directions when given. Like most toddlers he balks at things sometimes but that seems pretty typical. He will be tested very soon and I’m so relieved my daughter and son in law will be able to get this little sweetheart the services to help him grow and be successful in his own way. Thanks a million for this video and sharing your family story.

My daughter has a speech delay (not diagnosed yet, starting her with a speech pathologist ASAP) but she has lost quite a few words between a year and 2 years 2 months, which is her age now… She has maybe 4 words now, she used to have something like 10-12. She’s seems antisocial with other kids and people and sometimes with us, her parents. She likes to play alone. This last month, she’s started randomly covering her eyes and ears with her hands… I can’t wait to get her officially diagnosed. I think it’s just a speech delay, but we will see. Either way, I need answers. This video helped.

My boy is 10 now and he has just recently been diagnosed with autism. The problem is that he masks VERY WELL like Simon. He mimics what he sees and fine-tunes it to meet his needs and to get by. He's a very social and empathetic boy and values relationships with others. The trouble is, everyone is torn. His teachers say yes he is while a child Psychologist who works for the school board who came to the school to watch him for a day says "No he is not because he approached her, said hello, and made eye contact. They say he's the smartest kid in 4th grade at his school but he can't focus without being constantly redirected. He doesn't qualify for an IEP and he doesn't fit the mold for a school for kids with Autism. Kids like mine could easily fall through the cracks.

My 5y old has autism. I would have never guessed it, because I didn't know much about autism to begin with. He was referred to the assessment for language delay. He did show several of the behaviours you are pointing out - fixated on things (insects, dinosaurs, etc), walking on his tiptoes, having bad temper tantrums (those stopped once he started talking), getting upset when we deviate from his routine, doesn't ike zippers and rough clothing and gets upset by loud noises. But he wasn't what I thought an autistic child would be like - he has lots of friends, is super affectionate, sunny personality, very active. When he got the diagnosis, I was in complete denial, but now I am happy to know and how to help him. So I found your story very interesting and seeing quite a few parallels - thank you for sharing!

Thank you for sharing your story! My husband and I had a very similar experience with our oldest daughter. We were convinced she was not in the spectrum, only had a speech delay. She was diagnosed with ASD Level 2 without intellectual impairment at the age of two, she's now three. She has really blossomed thanks to speech services.

Hello. My son is 4yo. Very clever and smart, but with speech delay. He can read, spell words, knows greek, english, russian alphabet, numbers up to 100 or more, can play piano, loves to sing and dance The professionals are still on the process of assessing him. I have a feeling that they may come up to ASD diagnosis, as they observe him doing tip toe sometimes, less eye contact, and lacks of social skills. As his mother whose with him almost 24/7, i believe my son can overcome this with the help of a speech therapist. Can i ask how long it takes to see the speech improvement to your little one? And do you know any strategies that the therapist is doing? we're still waiting for his appointment to a speech therapist, and i eagerly want to help my kid asap. Thanks

Wow! It sounds like you have a little genius there. ❤️ honestly, it has been very slow for us, still a little to nothing as far as speech with Ezra, but Simon is making a little progress.

As far as their therapy goes, right now, they are mainly trying to involve sounds with their play. They will make the sound of the car and the crash and make the sounds of the animals that they play with. That’s where we’re at right now, just a lot of repetition. To me it sounds like your son will probably just start talking when he’s ready after he has already learned the language perfectly. 😊

Holly did a little video on this on another channel, but probably not quite what you’re looking for. We need to do a video specifically on speech therapy strategies.

What kind of hurt when I run to cut comments? I said it was kinda not want the same but like it was like OK right away I don’t have kids but you don’t know how hard it is out here. I understand. Many people have a different but the way they treat a day I could take it because you don’t know what I can do. You had no clue how strong I am how I had to defend myself and get every freaking penny to scrape. I did learn a lot from my grandfather, everyone shut what he did for us is the biggest hero and if you have someone in his feeling to do something that you can’t afford myself be lucky how much money I have in the house said I am. 5:30

I grew up with mild autism and no diagnosis. I was too mild to be noticed, Especially back in the 90's. I'm 30 years old now and recently officially diagnosed. Looking back at old home videos, I can see the autism in me, plus other things I grew up feeling about myself. Always extra sensitive to sounds. Had/have other sensory sensitivities. Some echolalia present. Can be seen with plenty of stimming but not dramatically enough for it to be seen as "a problem". Took things literally. Spoke on time but had trouble pronouncing certain letters for a while. I walked later than normal. Picky, stubborn, and extremely bad with the concept of sharing. Very bad with changes or when my expectations weren't met. Would meltdown or shutdown emotionally. Etc. I learned early to rely on my mind/intellect/intelligence to feel worthy. To feel validated. Socially I struggled with friendships/making friends a lot. And my emotions were often volatile. All the while never knowing anything about autism. Once I learned about it in my late twenties, light bulbs went off!! I got assessed and diagnosed. What a whirlwind...

Thank you for your video. My younger son is like Simon, but back when he was little there wasn't much help for the child and other parents didn't seem to understand. He walking on his toes, balanced on a bowling ball with his bare feet for hours, fixated on certain things like college level math, many meltdowns every day, didn't make eye contact, and struggled with expressive language. He also had auditory processing disorder, dysgraphia, and sensory issues all undiagnosed as the public schools wouldn't authorize testing unless the child was failing. My son was crazy smart so no testing was done. He decided to quit school at the age of 8 yrs old. I had a much harder time adjusting and helping others to understand him. Bless you. I'm glad there is more help for families and children with autism spectrum disorder. I'd love to hear Ezra's story too.

You can also do that to a degree (even if you happen to struggle with your own social skills) by asking Microsoft Copilot or Chap GPT to retell a story about an event from the perspective of someone at a particular developmental level. It may not always be able to do it though because there are certain subjects that existing AI models are not allowed to discuss in too much detail for various reasons. Therefore if the story or situation is toilet-training-related you will probably need to settle for a story where the details are fairly vague in some areas. Nevertheless any details that it can provide might help you to enter your child’s world to some degree.

This is really cool. You share your story so brilliantly. Thank you so much, this moved me to forgive myself I guess, for always blaming myself for how hard life has been. Now I see how much of a difference that intentional support would have made, and I'm just happy to see there are parents like you. I just turned 30 and have been picking my mom's brain recently for clues from my small years, because the wave of people self-diagnosing hit me like a truck last year. Autistic people kept assuming I was also autistic, and I just assumed I would have been diagnosed if I were autistic, despite what now seem like glaringly obvious signs that eventually earned me the nickname "Awkward" in high school 😅 I am definitely curious about the diagnosis comparison!

Thanks for sharing and glad you are here. ❤️ Ezra and Simon both have Occupational and Speech therapists that come every week day and work with them in our home. Yeah, the more early intervention the better because it just takes a lot of repetition to get things to stick.

I appreciate this video! I have an 8 year old that I have been trying to get help for since he was 2.5-3 years old. I tried asking for testing when he was 4 but since they said he could make eye contact and follow where he was pointing at in the room that the doctor didnt feel like it was autism. We have had an ADHD diagnosis since he was 6 ( they wouldn't diagnose him before that age). ODD was diagnosed then changed to adjustment disorder and then possibly DMDD. We finally found someone to administer an autism screening and BAM, the testing showed likely to have Autism. We have been on many waitlists at the moment. But someone squeezed us up since I had to take my son out of school in March. He is already on the right med combo after his 2nd hospitalization. My son was speech delayed like simon and was such an easy, smiley baby like Simon. He started Elopement at 2.5. its calmed down more now. He is such a brilliant kid. I just want the diagnosis so I can get into therapy to better help him. I don't have the right tools. Poor kid has had such a hard time in school too even with an IEP. Thank you for sharing this. It's really hard to find information like this that is like my son.

I dont know I could be wrong in ur child's case but still I think you should look into what is Virtual Autism. When a child gets lot of screen time before the age of 1 4+ hrs then they do get signs of Autism. And in your son's case I see he was fine when he was born and then he hit the regression. So nothing wrong to look about it All the best :)

So lovely to hear Simons story! I relate so much to it and remember so many similarities from my childhood, looking back at old VHS videos, memories and stories from my parents. Like your son I was rigid with occational tantrums when I couldnt have/do something I had set my mind to do. Also, repetitive behaviours. One difference is though, that I was verbally gifted, but less socially gifted. So I dont have a need nor the ability to make friends like other people can. My parents didnt have the knowledge and keen eye that you guys have. So, I saw the signs myself in my 30's and ended up getting an evaluation - and was diagnosed. Im now a PhD student struggling with burnout and work load balance, with need to adapt life more to my disability. However, my abilities enabled me to have an adventurous, nerdy life and even co-author research! I wonder what adventures Simon will embark on! :)) Greetings from Sweden

I knew my child was autistic since he was 1, it was obvious to me since I worked with infants and toddlers for years. That being said at 2 he was diagnosed as mild autism, fast forward to 4 and he is definitely no longer has mild autism, even though he expressed emotion very well and reads others emotions and is way more independent then other autistic children he has way more autistic traits now that he’s older then when he was a toddler, I’m glad more parents are seeing the signs earlier and getting them the help they need as soon as possible. Autism is so different from child to child.

You people are obsessed with labels. Of course its a trend where money is to be made by therapists. Autism may be a personality trait and a form of different intelligence. Give your children love and support. They all grow at different stages.
