We had a 3am wake up then back to sleep at 4:40am. I find if we have night wakes it happens exactly 8hrs after falling asleep and last 1-2hrs.

I feel for you, Jacob. Being not able to sleep when you're so tired is the worst thing...especially if your haven't slept properly for days or weeks. I didn't sleep very consistently when I was a child and it made me a lot more sensitive and easily overwhelmed. it sucked. As a small child "moderate" body contact (as in sitting next to my parents and leaning against them, but not getting hugged) and keeping the stimuli low (no electric light, dark curtains are good if there are streetlights close windows or use ear plugs to reduce sounds, make sure the pyjamas and beddings are sensory friendly (for me it was 100%cotton or linen, smooth.)) )helped to make those nights less frustrating. My dad liked playing the guitar in the dark for me or hum a song, that was good too. As an adult sometimes redoing my evening ritual ( getting up, making "good night" tea, brush teeth, for kids maybe read a book or sing a song) is helpful to get me in the mindset to try going to sleep again. Very well-know audio books (extra quiet) can help...the familiar story/voices/sounds distracts me from my frustration, but it's not new enough to make me stay awake to keep listening. I also take Melatonin now. Some nights, even with all your efforts are just horrible no-good nights. Poor Jacob. I can understand you're frustrated. if the night before was really bad or you didn't get any sleep... If you can sleep during the day, do that maybe for a little nap for an hour or so can help get you through the day, but don't fall into the trap of sleeping to long during the day...it makes it even harder to keep a healthy sleep schedule the following evening. also going outside after such night and maybe take a walk or play with a ball or kite or make a trip to the forest to look at plants (depends on you interests) can be good. being out in daylight and getting physically tired but keeping the stimuli as low as possible sometimes can help making the next night less bad. Good luck. :)

I'm not sure I can help with morning hacks, because I don't have and children. but as an autistic person, stability is important in the morning. I want to wake up and know what's expecting me. I do not want an ever changing routine with different variables all the time. It upsets me if there isn't any of my usually morning food available (for me that's 1 slice of bread with 2 slices of salami and 1/2 slice goat cheese, but for others it might be cereal or porridge or eggs or cold pizza). by making sure I have that on hand I don't have to think about what to eat... the less decisions I have to make in the morning the better. Some people like making stuff like overnight oats the night before, so they don't have to prepare stuff in the morning. waking up at 07:00, no matter what day of the week or how/if I slept the night before was also important for me to keep my daily schedule consistent (my day ends usually at 22:00 if I am not working, I need around 2-4 hours to fall asleep). I give myself a few minutes to wake up and then at 07:05 I do all the minor hygiene stuff (brush teeth, brush hair (finger combing and getting the knots out by hand might make it gentler for your girl, there's also quite a few of cute short hairstyles for girls if she's sensitive to the whole hair-do thing. for going to the hairdresser, maybe you can prepare her hair so that it's tangle-free and ask the hairdresser to use as few products/tools as possible to make it more sensory friendly for her. otherwise braids are your friend because they're free stimming toys and the hair gets less tangled during the day)). I do the dental hygiene before breakfast, because then I am still half asleep and the routine kicks in before I am awake enough to think about feeling uncomfortable. it works for me. at around 07:25 I make my way into the kitchen and have breakfast with whoever is present from my family. At around 07:45 I'm checking my calendar for the daily schedule. I only dress in outside-clothes if I have to leave the house to meet someone or if I know someone is coming to visit. otherwise I wear what's comfortable for me. getting something that not awful to wear when out is important to... like...nothing with clothing tags or hard seems, or stuff that's too restricting...I personally don't like jeans and closed shoes. I prefer cotton and (soft) linen, wool is only okay with there's a layer of cotton between the wool and my skin. it's itchy. Anything that feels fluffy or plastic-y is probably a no. but maybe your son likes that kind of fabric.. I think he's wearing very fluffy pjs in this video. Sorry I am rambling.

My son Bentley sleeps well most nights. Some nights maybe 2-3x a month he’ll get up at 3-4am and go back to sleep around 6am. Today he woke up at 4am. We do early intervention and try to have him up by 7am on those days so he can nap before his session. Otherwise the sessions almost never go well with him cranky from needing his nap. He usually falls asleep at night by 9-10pm.

My son has had many sleep issues like that. I have resisted doing clonidine which was prescribed. Liquid cherry benadryl has helped to get him drowsy. From ages 2-5 it was the worst. Now he does better but still has disruptions that last weeks. The sleepy sticker patches also help. They are a blend of essential oils and he has slept better and longer with them.

I can relate completely! My husband swears the liquid melatonin works better than gummies or chewables, might be worth a shot? My son was like that would wake up at 3 and not return to sleep, that was due to a reaction to a medication, then went on another one and after 6 months we got him off the second medication, then after a month after that he sleeps so much better, he might wake up once or twice looking for me but then go straight back to sleep. I hope things get easier for you and Jacob, lack of sleep is a type of torture.

Is there anything Jacob does feel comfortable in? I know there's a uniform but you can ask for accomodations for him because of his disability. Take care of yourself too get some rest my mom has health issues because my brother wouldn't sleep.
