Its indeed a very large spectrum which is probably confusing to normal people ..on one hand you have ppl like Kirsten who have a job, boyfriend, social life and she is verbal....on the other hand you have kids who are completely non-verbal, very visibly autistic, and are completely dependent on their parents. Autism really needs to be split in multiple labels to describe it because their needs are vastly different. From needing little assistance in day to day activities to complete dependence on others.

kirstenlindsmith Is her IG @durrsten is her Twitter Honestly, it doesn't seem like she posts any art or anything sadly. A real shame. she is a wonder. Edit: I'm an idiot, here is her wordpress where she posts more info on autism and even her art gallery!: kirstenlindsmith.wordpress.com/art/

This sounds more like ADHD to me.

Yes, autisic spectrum disorder (ASD) gets frequently misdiagnosed as ADHD for that very reason. However, because we (may) have sensory processing disorder everything is louder and brighter and more distracting than for "normal" or neurotypical people. A part of sensory processing things may be that certain textures are really pleasurable and make us feel good. Additionally, we autistics may wiggle around in order to "self stimulate" or 'stim' for short. This allows us to block out other stimuli so that we can focus better. We can stim by rocking, flapping, humming, spinning, tapping, flicking our fingers, and much much more So the difference between ADHD-like Autistic symptoms and ADHD itself are the root cause of the attention deficit and hyperactivity. Is it because they are unable to due to understimulation (ADHD)? or due to overstimulation (ASD)?

@@aldenheterodyne2833 I think as a general tendency that is the case, but a few ADHD/autism symptoms overlap quite a bit. (This isn't about Kirsten at all, by the way, I don't doubt her diagnosis.) Since both disorders are heterogeneous, they can (to a certain extent of course) present quite similarly in some people. I have ADHD, but I also have sensory issues and fluctuate between understimulation and overstimulation. That being said, my sister has autism, and overstimulation affects her a bit more than me.

ADHD and ASD are commorbidities. If you have one you're 5x-10x to have the other too compared to the general population. And a number of symptoms (like sensory sensitivity and stimming) are shared, so even if you just have one you have them,...
