A teenager who was diagnosed with autism and told he would never be able to read has been tipped as a future Nobel prize winner.
Jacob Barnett, who was diagnosed with moderate to severe autism at two years old, is now studying for a Master's degree in quantum physics.
Experts say the 14-year-old student from Indiana has an IQ higher than that of Albert Einstein.
His mother Kristine Barnett, author of The Spark: A Mother's Story of Nurturing Genius, told BBC Breakfast she initially found it hard to get Jacob the right education.

I'm glad this boy is intelligent and has a bright future but the eternal comparison with Einstein is irrelevant. The important point is what is done with the intelligence they have. We all know what Einstein did with his and we are still studying his theories. Though some people keep trying to find fault in it - and they're constantly proved wrong and Einstein right. Let's hope that this boy's future is as productive and useful to humanity as Einstein's was. Bless him!

I'm not impressed. Marilyn Vos Savant who scored 228 in IQ test (remember that Einstein's IQ was only 160), is now in her mid seventies and worked all her life as a newspaper columnist (the name of her column is "Ask Marilyn"). Kim Ung-yong, the Korean child prodigy who spoke four languages by the age of four, and solved difficult differential equations on national TV, is now 60 and works as an associate university professor of cosmology! William James Sidis who died in his fifties in 1944, and was accepted at Harvard at the age of eleven and spoke twenty five languages, wrote one book about the origins of life which no one reads, and another lousy book about the Indian tribes! Genius is the originality of perception which makes the person see what others don't, and create a new world view through hard work, dedication, and perseverance.

Why do you think the moons around Mars are elliptical, shaped like potatoes?” Nobody in the crowd answered, probably because no one had the slightest idea. I certainly didn’t. Then Jake’s hand shot up. “Excuse me, but could you please tell me the size of these moons?” This was more conversation than I’d seen from Jake in his entire life, but then again, I’d never tried to talk to him about Mars’s moons. The lecturer, visibly surprised, answered him. To the astonishment of everyone, including me, Jake responded, “Then the moons around Mars are small, so they have a small mass. The gravitational effects of the moons are not large enough to pull them into complete spheres.”] This is the conversation jacob had with a astronomy professor during his presentation when he was three years old. This is an extract from Jacob's mother Kristine's book. Oh Its hard to believe. It would be great if anybody in here knows that professors name. Does anybody in here knows if that professor has verified this story. Jacob having such eloquent conversation on astronomy with a professor at the age of three seems really hard to comprehend.

Einstein was a revolutionary mind because he broke from the absolute rigidity of physics and mathematics and the observational data that was dominant in the age. He saw some unavoidable conflicts in Newtons theory of gravity, and instead of observing and depending on hard data, he drew out the concept of relativistic gravity almost entirely from pure theory. Most people even as gifted as this kid is, do not possess the mind of innovation that drives that kind of breakthrough.

She said “any parent can pull a child out of autism with enough effort” and presumably with her proprietary Spark Method. She left something out the story of her superior mothering- the 6 yr old disabled daughter with dwarfism they adopted. They got her age changed from 8 to 22 then dumped her in an apartment and left for Canada for Jacob’s education. It’s a miracle that poor girl didn’t die. When busted in 2019 they sold the public a preposterous story that she was a secret adult con artist who tried to kill all of them. See The Curious Case of Natalia Grace.

Einstein’s iq was never tested, though it is estimated to be somewhere within the realm of 205 and 215. The “160” figure was only proclaimed because it was the highest value on the Wechsler scale - though that is evidently not the highest iq one can possess. It’s so irritating when people run around saying kids have “higher iq’s than Einstein”. Also, even if Einstein’s iq was tested as being 160, it still wouldn’t be a fair comparison. This is due to iq tests being ineffective at measuring extremes. So then, if this is the case, perhaps we should save the comparison for when this kid actually invents something as profound as general and special relativity… then we can discuss who was more the intelligent of the two. Till then, stfu.

IQ tests require that you solve problems quite quickly. Einstein may solve more problems than most and are extremely creative at doing so (and these make him a genius) but he may have done those a little slower. So, Einstein may be a super genius but he may not score the highest in IQ tests (if he gets the chance to do them). Certainly doesn't mean he is less intelligent than people with higher IQs.

Every mother thinks they child is special they even embellish things like how his son was able to create and understand maths that took people years to understand, etc. Some even go on TV, etc and do interviews but at time of interviews no-one knows where the child will end up. Ten years later and no-one has held of this kid, nor has he won a Nobel prize, people should just let their kids being kids instead of parading them around when they do a little math or display some skills.

@@jarudu201 I can't agree because since the kid was small, he has been told he is brilliant and is expected to be the next Einstein. His mother has paraded him from one TV station to another and even written a book about him stating his brilliance; this creates pressure for the boy because now he is expected by the world to do something extraordinary such as Einstein did by advancing the world, and anything less is not accepted like being another cog in the machine. The truth is that "child prodigies" are not born with innate knowledge, but are created by studying all the time. I have read about the so-called "child-prodigies" who had to wake up at 5 am and study till 10 pm with little or no break, not allowed friends because they were deemed a waste of time, thus sacrificing their childhood. Most child prodigies who are all grown up have sworn never to do the same to their children by putting that much pressure on their children.

According to one of the Malcolm Gladwell books studies show that intelligence predicts success only up to an IQ of about 120. After that, the increased IQ makes you no more likely to get published, win a Nobel Prize, etc. I think this has to do with the fact that social adaptability seems to be inversely related to IQ, which is a nice way of saying geniuses can be excessively weird, awkward, introspective, obsessive, depressed, misunderstood, anxious, etc.

I really hate diagnosis' because professionals can only see what's going on on the surface but they will never know how a person will turn out to be in the future, and furthermore diagnosis' can be wrongly given too! so much of these" he can't do this, he can't do that" will just make the child believe that he can't! Nobody should put a limit to what they see... Because what they think they see may not be what the child may turn out to be!

Sarah Davinia Well I think it’s because we don’t know a ton about how autism works. All they can do is go based off what the norm is. They’re not trying to give up on the children(not saying that some don’t become jaded after seeing many poor outcomes) but they’re trying to prepare the parents for what’s possible. That’s necessary. And you make it seem like the doctors tell the kids this stuff.

Roman Soiko psychiatry isn't a fraud, the idea that autism is a "disorder" is misleading. i have no doubt this kid is a genius at what he does due to an immensely strong interest which is a common affect of aspergers, but as he was about to mention at 3:04 before he stopped himself, he said "the problem at the lecture was trivial, it was just some-", which he possibly was about to hint that the question wasn't necessarily super specifically complicated to answer, but possibly rather simply required an intuitive logic to solve, and would certainly be very impressive coming from a kid of that age. using my own logic given the information in this interview that he answered a question at an observatory at 3 1/2 years old, to me almost certainly confirms that he didn't say anything very specifically mathematical, but perhaps said something logically sensical which someone recognized as atypical of a 3 1/2 year old. i think there's a lot of people who will see this video as the sensationalist title it portrays and assume this kid spat out some kind of mathematical proof at the observatory at 3 years old, when the truth is that no matter how smart someone is, knowledge still has to progress linearly, and the 3 year old would have had to have already had working experience in deep mathematical concepts before they said anything about that. with that said, one could argue that the nature of logic in itself is a sort of mathmetical ability to make "correct" observational correlations, but even with that, we still require the language of math which man created in order to "describe" logic.
