Terrible storytelling about his career which left out too many of his successes in Indy, NASCAR, Trans Am and other forms of motorsports! The '66 Chevelle was not 7/8's. It was aerodynamically slickened with a flat undercarriage, modified narrowed and reworked front bumper and other things that didn't anything to do with shrinking the car. These and other things could have been quickly mentioned had this guy not been so ill prepared! Very disappointing segment on a true automotive innovator who's career advanced performance and safety technology in racing and passenger vehicles.

correct me if im wrong, but didnt he drill holes in the crankshaft of Marshall Teague' fabulous hudson hornet to lighten up the reciprocating assembly (to get that dual carb I6 revving higher) (pre-53, before Hudson and Nash Began the forming of AMC, and Teague's leaving nascar), plus bring the mystery motor that was the Mark II chevy big block (aka the porcupine) to nascar during the earlymid 60s?

I live where the NASCAR Hall of Fame is, and yes, Smokey Yunich at least was in the NASCAR Hall of Fame in a big way as of probably 10 years ago when I went there and saw it in print.

smokey yunick did much more than your story revealed . he also built a 4/5th size chevelle that he ran until he parked next a stock chevelle . and tech noticed the difference. he also ran fuel in the rollbars to get more gas than the tank was allowed

He called turbo chargers homogenizers that mix up the different octanes in gasoline. The lower octanes , even down in the 50s, would burn better and lessen engine knock. For example the NASCAR Buick 3.8 competition engine in the 80s .
