18:30 tape a small patch of gauze type fabric on the bottom of the cup to enable wicking and air pruning.

It works quite well. I'm still learning and finding that each part of a grow room/seed starting area has it's own necessary properties.

I’d be worried about moisture leaching over the ends and possibly affecting lights on shelf below. Personally I would get a shallow tray the size of your shelf and set the capillary mat in that then have the front hang into your reservoir. Also, instead of flimsy small containers I would run a section of gutter on that small shelf u built. Gutter would also hold more water extending time between water additions. Just my .02. Overall a good idea, How did this work for u?

Yes, I had similar thoughts. I have been remaking the shelving as I decide how I want the grow areas to look. I have a safer setup now though I will be building the final shelf setup for the grow room during the next two weeks. It worked like a charm. I didn't have to top water the plants once, Just kept the trays full.

I cut out a piece of tee shirt and let the cups with the bottoms cut out sit on that material instead of the capillary mat? It keep the mat clean and prevents any growing into the mat itself. The tee shirt material works fine.

Yes, putting old t shirt material on top of the mat would work. When it starts to fall apart you could just throw it in the compost. Good idea!

Go for it! I'm in for three years now and still recommend it.
