I just bought my first copart rebuild because of you. A 2015 Mercedes GLK350 with 20k mileage. The subframe was trashed, oil pan busted, power steering(electric) trashed. No blown bags. No blown seatbelts. The frame rails are straight. I'm going to have 13k into a car worth 14k, But had fun with the rebuild. Tesla killed the resale on Mercedes. I have had fun ordering parts and spending time under a car on jack stands mulling over the meaning of life. I recommend a Covid rebuild for anyone bored with this pandemic... Oh yeah, we needed a new family car, my 2001 BMW X5 is getting passed down to my son, he will kill it in the next few years for sure. I usually drive my cars to the salvage yard at end of life. The GLK350 has about 25 years left in it. I'm happy with my investment. It is more valuable than 13k to me. It feels new...I'll be 70 when the GLK350 will need replacement...... WTF!!! Life moves too fast!!

Hello from Switzerland, Regarding some issues regarding related to implausible speed of the gearbox (and going to limp mode), check your electronics modules along the ECU. I had a similar issue with my w211 and 5 days of debugging, including conductor plate change did nothing. I checked the modules themselves. Found the Esp module with 2 pins slightly corroded, checked it by being sure the connector was making proper connections and it make the errors intermittent. Basically, the module was going bad. Changed it and a pleasure to drive since. More simply, check every module that make faults. If pins are corroded, change it. If connector is in discutable shape, make it bright again and some conductor spray.

Randy, it really helps to know how the systems in the car work together when troubleshooting an issue. Having owned several of the W220 cars like this one, often a single sensor, broken wire, terminal, etc will throw a host of codes. I invested in a STAR system and it has helped me solve many issues with my vehicles. Look for the common connection between the codes and not so much the codes themselves. Also, get the tire and rim sizes matched or you will have codes thrown. TCM also needs to be coded to the vehicle if you have not done so; else it will be in limp mode.

Floating grounds will do this kind of stuff with computer equipment and your working on basically a computerized car,what I mean by a floating ground is you will experience voltage on ground of the car. It should be 0 volts on ground , the electronic circuits run on any wear from -5volts to + 5 volts and 12 volts so if your grounds have any kind of voltage on them it will it will screw up the signal voltage to the computers .
@dennyheitzer94574 жыл бұрын
I have worked on radiology systems for over 45 years and, from experience, I'd look at connections, both power, grounds AND CONNECTORS. When there are many problems, connections are the culprit. The above info is where I look first, but also the signal connectors. Seat/reseat all connectors 3 or 4 times to clean them up.The water damage at the beginning is still an issue. Ienjoy all your videos.

@hgn980094 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the interesting channel. I think that you should order the parts for the gearbox on the S500. While you wait for those you should fix the S430, enjoy it on a road trip perhaps. When you are satisfied with the S430 you should take a deep breath and dive in to the S500 again, fix the gearbox computer and put on matching tires, perhaps borrowed from the S430. If that doesn't fix the car it is time to cut your losses. The W setting for the gearbox on a Mercedes is for Winter, it doesn't let you use 1:st gear and probably makes gear shifts smoother and at lower rpm, all in order to ensure grip on icy roads. Even the rear wheel drive Mercedes is fun to drive on snow and ice since the ASR (Anti Slip Regulation) lets you drift nicely while placing you in the direction you want to go.

Randy, I had a few Mercs before, the transmissions normally does start acting up after some time. Normally the valves in the gearbox gets stuck to the valve body which does cause it to get stuck in a gear. After I serviced it myself and took it on a shakedown run driving it real hard hitting the rev limiter in every gear and warming everything up, the codes clear up and the car shifts properly again. Its a crazy thing owning a Merc but it is a very fun experience.

@q1359804 жыл бұрын
I would focus on the ABS wiring and sensors if you wanted to go forward with the white car, ABS/ESP/ASR/BAS faults will result in associated modules incurring faults such as the ETC/EGS(Transmission Control Module), AirMatic, PCM, and Front SAM. The ETC faults must be cleared to bring the transmission out of limp mode as well. If you dont assess the ABS wheel speed sensors and connectors/wiring at all four corners, then you will continue to be frustrated by all the faults resulting from the ABS wheel speed sensors being pontentially faulty or damaged due to flood water or having corrosion at the connectors or wiring. I would look at wheel speed signals as well to narrow down the culprit of the ABS issues. You're doing great, keep it up Randy!

focus should be on getting an expandable metal building at AAR HQ. You have a great truck and trailer, don't trade those away. Forget about getting a replacement for the Corvette, once the litigation is sorted out. If you want a personal car, keep one of the cars you're fixing, like the S430. I personally would like to see what the long-term issues are in having an S430, or a Marauder. Suggest moving the S500 to Weird Beard, if he'll accept the car. He does a great job on picking up where you leave off. All the very best wishes, Rand.

Hi Randy. All the fault codes are from the same cause, the ABS control module. The ABS receive the speed signal from each wheel and uses the CAN Bus to share that information with the engine control module, the transmission control module, the dash, and so on. The TCM need the speed information for shifting, and the ECM needs that information for the fuel injection cut off in desacceleration. Maybe, as many people said, the mismatch tyres are confussing the ABS module, because for the ABS Module, each wheel has a different speed. Put the S430 wheels in the S500, clear the codes and go for a test drive. If the fault continues, maybe the replacement ABS module is bad or you have a problem with the wiring. Best wishes from Uruguay.
