Before you change those struts, replace the valve block first, thats with the compressor behind the front bumper on the right side of the car, OR theres a level sensor in the back in the middle that supports the rear, check that to make sure its not messed up! hope that helps.

I really recommend you clean the cabin air intake. The intake at the top of the engine, below the windshield. If not cleaned in case of rain or a wash, if you have leaves stuck in the gutters, it will just flood the whole electronics system. It is most probably filled with leaves like the trunk was

The Mercedes air suspension is supposed to raise instantly and there is a button on the dash board that shows the car you would have to push it it will then raise otherwise the suspension is totalled

Btw, on a Mercedes, it’s not an option not to fix the air suspension, the ride comfort is just great. No coil over would even remotely match that ride comfort.

Big ol Benz...brings back memories of the last S class you had. Not sure this one is worth going full tilt but the price cant be beat and she isnt too rough. Maybe concentrate on suspension and exhaust over anything cosmetic but could still be a winner. BTW resist any temptation to wash the engine. Remember what happened last time you put water to a Merc's engine!

Unless Mercedes makes God awful starters (220k on this one original) a starter will never fail from being cranked too long. You seem to be an expert mechanic, unlike everybody else, so please tell us why it would start after the 10 second mark. Keep in mind he kept cranking it over and over again with the same result. That key is a replacement that style of key did not make its appearance till 09. The real factory key would be black and plastic

sam grabel I had a 2006 E-500 with that exact same key. I believe Mercedes had that key or key-design since the early 2000s with a slight change in 2009 or so. Some S-Class MB’s even had a credit-card style key that didn’t last long either.

M.A Rodriguez did you buy it new I bought a new Benz e320 cdi in 06 off the dealer lot it came with 2 black keys and did I lost a key in 09 and it was replaced from the same dealer ship with one with the chrome for $600 programd I want the matching key but thay told me I couldn’t get that model of key any more. All that was being peduced was the black and chrome key

Thats right, but the plastik of the original key is poor quality and breaks usually. so if you buy a replacement from mercedes you get the later key-model with the chrome.

Those air springs are $1000 EACH. The compressor is around $550. Aside from those things which are a common problem with W220s, that M113 V8 sounds GLORIOUS.

P.K Dionysus Same here ✌️ and although a V 12 is always something special, I’d say the 500 is the one to get with the 220 chassis- the difference in power is not that big (as long as you’re talking pre-facelift models) and cost of maintenance are so much lower with the V8, plus, the M 113 is a very reliable engine - still, an old neglected S-Class is always a lot of work and probably not a cheap ride if you’re just looking for a beater..

Randy, as a mechanic/car vloger/rebuilder, you should have a seperate tool pack for the road that includes whatever tools, and fluids you deem necessary or might need on the road or at the auction sites. That pack should always be restocked, and ready to go. Even if you are just out, and about, the kit should always be with you, if nothing else you can help someone else in need.

Just a suggestion, you have a beautiful truck and new trailer. So bring that trailer, and a prepared (go) kit, with all the stuff you might need, that you can put in the bed of your truck. Sure try to drive it home, but if you keep the trailer, and your tools and liquids, with your truck, and you’ll be prepared for any situation.

Somebody had the back seat out, when they tried to put it back misaligned, pinched that heavy red power cable into metal, which blew the 150A fuse in the front main fuse panel 14:00 . BTDT!

I have W220 too. It is 2002 end of year facelift model. 3.2 liter CDI turbo diesel. The last inline 6 until 2005. They did change it 2006 to V6 OM642 3 liter and it isn't as good as my OM648. V6 have more problems (for example timing chain and oil cooler seals) and consumes more diesel plus not much more power. I have personal experience of that V6. I had 2006 W221 S-Class and 2013 CLS Shooting brake which I crashed in Poland and it went also to Copart here in Finland. 2008 Merc came sane again and did change that V6 to back to inline 6, thank You Mercedes!

Randy I won at a PA copart unseen a '05 C240 4matic Friday for 500/820 out the door. Salvage as of 4/07/20. R&D damage side pic show driver side door slightly dent pillars rockers look not damaged but unseen though till I get there to get it tomorrow

Rio Supremacy don‘t know about the cost in the U.S., but in Germany a genuine new key like this is about 250 Euros - so considering the price Randy paid for the car itself, the fact that someone spend the money to buy a new oem MB key for it is quite a big deal ^^

Those chrome keys have been around a long time and are quite durable. My 2005 key looks brand new and yes, it’s silver like his.

You can jumstart car from passenger side footwell. Take carpet off then take styrox block off and screw aluminium plate off. There is + connector which You can use for jumpstarting the car. I've done that one time when car inspector left car lights on and after work I tried to open doors but battery was empty and trunk didn't open with key luckily door did open with key.

You’ll probably have to replace all 4 of the Airmatic systems because they’ll more than likely leak air and the car will be sitting back on the ground a few hours after you turn it off, you can convert it to regular shocks/struts.

There should be jump points under the hood near the fuse box. Look for a red plastic cover.

Great car! I have a 2004 S430. I got my rear refurb Arnott Airmatic struts from Rockauto about a year ago for $250 a piece. Depends on how much you wanna spend though!
