So I have 4 carbs to rebuild and a head gasket.. I may need to reduce my inventory liability a bit. Oh wait, I already have a autoauctions account for.. over 3 years at least. They can send me a 1985 Subaru but I already have a spare. . If any of you aspiring YT mechanics want some content, how about a 1985 Dodge Power Wagon that's a little cheaper if you want to rebuild the carb system yourself. Interiour is a bit exterior.

You have the most intelligent comment of the group. Cor-Ben did the same as did SMA, and the trio ain't all she wrote. This model has the lovely " Optispark ". While excellent while working, hi-maint. Fairly involved to service having to remove the water pump. Aftermarket kits available. Cheers.

@rwandersonut
@rwandersonut 4 жыл бұрын
@@sidgysoho1960 In a general knowledge sense, I would eliminate the most obvious and least expensive first. Since the goal here is to get it running, the plugs and wires would eventually be done anyway no matter what so might as well get them out of the way before getting into the more expensive parts. There is obviously a fuel issue here, however, if on a budget, eliminating the wires and plugs would allow you to disconnect the injectors one at a time to help narrow it down. For my own vehicle, I would replace them all off the bat. However, for a budget build, he may want to try and "clean" them. On that subject, a "fuel system cleaner" will only improve poor flow, it will not clean out totally clogged injectors. The issue with the injectors could also be in the wiring harness as well as being gummed up. I just don't like to crank that much on an engine, it unnecessarily stresses the starter and could burn up some wiring too. Great find for a real project though, but it will be a black hole of time for ayone involved.

@@rwandersonut Thanks for the conversation. Just watched Corvette Ben, it was part 7 of 8 on the Daily Driver 1985, and he went ahead and replaced all 8 injectors. The former owner did only 2 ? And that early style of Bosch are not reliable over time. He put Gen III's in and Bob's his uncle. I'm saying Randy can check the basics but in order to minimize stress on the engine and components, address the known weak links ASAP. Cheers. The Chevy TPI was and is a very aesthetically pleasing engine. The throttle response was incredible also. It made for a very quick and fun car when in the Trans Am/IROC and Vette. Even when applied to the 305.

I think that was the original engine too and someone commented that Crossfire injection was twin throttle body injection units, I didn't think so, it's been a while but I remember Cross fire injection with individual injectors but I looked at an old GM diagnostic reference notebook and apparently it was throttle body injection (TBI). That should be an LT-1 in there and those are good engines. I'd take the drive train out and put it in another car or sell it.

Its filthy, its crusty, its nasty but it goes to show to not judge a book by its cover. Im impressed with how fast you got it running. What would be really cool is if you could find out its history and how it ended up that way and after you get it done send the previous owner a link to the videos of its resurection and maybe get them to do a video reply to seeing it after its completed...lol

1985 was the first year for the L-98. The 1984 was the only one that had the L-83 ( I may be mistaken ) Cross-Fire motor. The L-98 was a good solid torque monster especially after February of 1986 when they slapped aluminum heads on it and roller rockers in '87. Great engine and good on fuel too not to mention it's a pretty motor to look at.

Years ago I bought an old, wrecked VW Beetle for $25 strictly for the parts. It had been sitting with a half-tank of fuel in it for 22 years! It smelled like very old spar varnish with a truckload of garlic mashed into it. Surprisingly, after draining it out I poured it out at the edge of a field and struck a match to the puddle-it flamed off like it was fresh premium right out of the refinery!

"Everyone needs a hobby." "What's yours?" "Resurrection!" OK. Colour: Leave it white. LED the brake lights as I'm unsure if you can put newer bulbs in the pop-ups and the LED will give you more light. Red line paint on the tires. Turn signals in the mirrors. Red interior with inexpensive led string lights. All this based on if the body is structurally sound. Swamp Thing? No. Christine? No. Survivor! This car WANTS to live. Ya know, that might have been Granny Clampett's rheumatiz medicine in the gas tank.

The 1984 Corvette came with the wretched Crossfire V8. All other model years after that did not have the Crossfire. However, that EFI and its various incarnations did find its way into many V8-powered GMs throughout the Eighties. You dodged a bullet in not getting the Crossfire, that's for sure!
