I hate that Uber doesn't allow you to see the rider's destination before accepting the ride. I signed up as a driver, so I can pick people up on the way to work and on the way back. I'm not interested in doing much more with Uber. I figured it would let me take the car pool lane, pay for my gas/maintenance/depreciation, and put a few extra bucks in my pocket. Not to mention you get to meet new people in your city and not be bored by yourself when stuck in traffic alone. Wasn't intending on making uber a sole source of income. If I can't see the destination address, or at least the general direction of where the rider wants to go, I can't accept them, since they may want to go 10 miles in the opposite direction of my intended destination. I assume there are lots of folks like me that would pick up riders if they were going in the same general direction. If Uber/Lyft are truly "ride sharing" apps and not a "taxi" service, they should allow this feature. After all, isn't the whole idea of "ride sharing" to pair up people that want to go to the same vicinity, rather than making people drive in random directions picking people up (which is what taxis do). "Like" if you think Uber and Lyft should allow drivers to see their riders' destination before accepting the gig!

Uber Man True, many would cancel. But, that's why they should show destination before accepting the ride, so drivers don't accept it. Many more (like me) would take the ride, since its in the direction they are going anyway. After all, if traffic is bad, that means many people are driving on that freeway. Just being able to get on the car pool lane makes a rider worth it for me (with LA traffic) I just heard that Lyft has a "Lyft Line" program that will automatically only present you with riders that are going towards your intended destination if you enter that info and opt for the Lyft Line program. That sounds like a perfect solution for my needs (picking up riders on the way to work/home). I'm new to this whole ridesharing world. Anyone know how well Lyft Line really works in practice, and if its available in LA/Orange County area?

mrvman99 Uber is not a "ride-share" company, they're just using the term to avoid all transportation fee that is required by law for anyone operating passenger vehicle. Uber is a taxi service, just not yellow color one. I know that it's illegal to force an undesirable destination on a guy, who just signed up with the company because it claimed that it was a "ride-share". A crystal clear example of purposefully misleading for ones own benefit. How can they get away with this? You must ask that to the corrupt members of congress (which is pretty much all of them) and the lawmakers of the United States of America.

Sooo if you make $65 on Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs (but meet the requirements), then you make $105 on Fri and Sat then you don't work Sunday, the total would be $470 without the incentive. However, if you get the subsidy you will average $86.40 per day and total $604.80. ...This is why when they first introduced this "opportunity", I declined. In LA we can make an average of $7 per trip. So, they're would be no point to do more than 12 trips. I've never opted in because it hard caps your earnings. No matter how much you drive, you're capped at the subsidy. So it's definitely not for everyone. Even with the reduced rates which are very corporate and NOT cool Uber...no way to treat loyal drivers...in LA, with reasonable effort, drivers can make a $100 per day consistently without woking long hours. As an Uber customer I appreciate the savings, but if Uber were to only take 10-15% and add a tip option on the App like they have at Starbucks, drivers would be a lot happier. The infrastructure is in place. Uber is set up to make money hand over fist right now just by making sure the app is operational. They have staff offices of course but the money drivers make for Uber pays that cost in a heartbeat. I understand how business works and 5 years in, Uber is just now growing into what it "Can be". And like a child becoming an adult, growing is painful. They have losses right now, but that is only due to massive rapid expansion so they can establish themselves as the big boy on the block. I just hope that in the next few years, once Ubers build out is mostly completed, they will be grateful to drivers and lower the percentage they take to 10%. I'm an actor and my agent's business relies on 10% of the income earned by the actors he represents. Even Managers only take 15% (I don't understand why they think they're more important than a good agent) and if Uber earns 10% on the backs of hard working drivers all over the world, that should be plenty. Again please, please, PLEASE!!! Uber! Look into the tipping option that Starbucks has on their App. There is still no cash exchanged, the customer doesn't have to have a dialogue or feel uncomfortable about tipping or not tipping. BUT they have the option. They could tip right away or within the following 5 hours. So maybe they're rushed, catching a flight and they don't have time to think about tipping. But once they get into the terminal and board their flight...and have a chance to breath...they might think, "Hey. I made it...that Uber driver was great and if he didn't know the quickest way to LAX, I'd be sitting in traffic on the 405 missing my flight. I think I'll tip him two dollars (or 15% or however Uber sets up the tipping option). I've had many customers who have felt awkward about "not tipping" because they appreciate the service. Or even more awkward when a friend tells them "There is NO TIP INCLUDED". They are shocked. And of course, if a person doesn't wish to tip, they click no tip and tap apply or just ignore the tipping option and in 5 hours it expires. These things, adding a tipping option and reducing the percentage Uber takes, these are the things we as drivers need to focus on. If someone can't make love $86 per day (or whatever the subsidy amount is) than absolutely, opt in. But overall, we can all earn more with tips and by keeping 85 to 90% of our earnings. It's our labor, it's our vehicle's that incur the wear and tear and we are the ones who put ourselves at risk dealing with strangers. And hey Uber! A happy driver is a profitable driver. They'll work longer hours, it doesn't cost Uber anything more and the corporation will make as much or more than they make now. Just my two cents...well.. 1 point 8 cents.

Thanks for this explanation. I worked a Friday night during price surging. I only refused one job and averaged 3 runs an hour. At the end of the night after ubers cut - I ended up making between 12 and 13 dollars and hour minus fuel. I have a full time job and worked only one night driving for uber to test the waters. factor in wear and tear on my car. Doesn't really leave me with much.

***** You got it. Unless you can somehow break through the minimum pay offer, at whatever the new low rates are. And even if you manage, the mileage to do it will kill gas, and completely offset the profitability, so there's really no point. Just get the minimum. Without my subsidy I'm at $453. With I'm at $652. $25 in tips. $350 referral bonuses, takes it to $803 without the SUBS, and $1002 after. I plan on being online tomorrow 9 hours which will bring the SUBS total to $1088.4. We will see if Uber pays the subsidy.

Amro G We have had surge here up to 5X this week, but even then, I was not able to break the $22/hr / $220 daily minimum. Surge only lasts 30 mins or so, then it's gone. At 0.80/mi it's only $4/mi. Surge isn't what it used to be.

I just recently signed up to drive for Uber, I'm waiting for the background check to go through, and have been watching a lot of your videos, great help there, it's given me a lot of ideas on how to go the extra step for the passengers, in any case, as I listen to this two things come to mind, 1) I believe the fair pricing is down right now because of competition, when the only thing that's left are taxi's and Uber, the prices should go back up, now it's only a guess because of competition 2) while I haven't started driving yet, this comes to mind, what if I only work on Friday and Saturday? here in Las Vegas I know I can make a lot of money on those two days alone, so if I don't take any subsidies, will they still charge me for them if I make over 12 an hour if I'm only working 2 days a week?

Thanks for making the video I'm not sure the rules are the same in each city though as I emailed the team here in my UK city and the made it very clear that the minimum fare is calculated on a daily basis. I think that they will get away with whatever they can according to the market in that town. Here in my city due to insurance laws etc we have to be licenced taxi drivers so its harder for them to retain drivers if the earnings are not high enough. It seems ubering is tough in some places !

I absolutely agree. I figured this out about 2 weeks ago. In the past I was 'chasing the surges' driving downtown 3 runs per hour and my paycheck was nothing! Hard to believe right. Now, I drive 1 trip per hour, stay away from the surges (literally run from them!) and work peak hours only. My paychecks are now 2 thirds higher and my paycheck shows the added subsidy. I do like Uber Man's idea of jamming my rides all at once in the beginning and heading home. Listen to this man, he is exactly right. It's not our fault, it's Uber's fault, they designed the system this way.

Thank you for all your work, the only reason I got working for Uber, was to make extra money, this is becoming way more than j want think about, I thought it was just a matter of driving as much as you can and make all the money you can. In my opinion Uber is making a big mistake by forcing some ( whoever stays) to just go with lyft or whatever company you want to work for. I thought I had it made!

uberman just one quick clarification so let's say if i work friday from 5pm-12am and i do 7 quick runs starting at 5pm which may take me about 3-4 hours to complete, i can basically go do hide somewhere for the rest of the remaining hours and still get paid? let me me know if this is how works thanks!

Thanks for being honest... Wish I had watched this right when you posted but I was out trying to make sure I met the requirements for the subsidy. I checked out my pay statement and lo and behold - NO subsidy.....and I know I met all the requirements! I drive for both U and Lyft and I have been making U a priority over the last few days. Turns out it was not worth all the effort. I'll go back to keeping both apps up and Lyft will get priority. Honestly, It's kind of a relief to not have to worry about that 50 minutes of every hour thing and declining rides.

It may not be fair to the overproducing drivers....but everyone who puts their time and energy into this should be compensated for it even if they can't find the runs like the super achieving drivers! That is considered stealing, I made about $470.00 last week but when I got my weekly pay they indicated that I only made 306. I wondered where my money went. I makes me question? What happened to "Drive when you want to" The rates are low as it is, we barely make enough money using and abusing our cars and our self and they are taking our hard earned money on top that. wantsanewvehicle Uber still takes 20% commission plus $1 rider fees. Plus, technically, EVERY driver on the guarantee still has to do one trip EVERY hour... so Uber makes the money from those trips because Uber only pays the difference. And these drivers still have to work against the 50 minutes on, and 90% acceptance rate. These drivers will have to accept or else.. not get the guarantee. They have thought this out, more than you. You do NOT need to worry about Uber making money. You should worry about drivers making money because, Uber still makes the same amount money, if there are 10,000 trips by 10,000 drivers or 10,000 trips by 1,000 drivers. The difference is how busy the driver is.... if you're busy all the time with the trips verses getting no customers due to a saturated area with too many drivers. So again, don't worry about,( I don't even know why you are) they are in it, to make money.

There are a lot of questions that won't be answered until your next paycheck. Does one period where you don't adhere to the minimum then ruin the entire week, or is it shunted outed and the average calculation made without it? What if you do an airport run, but don't complete the hour, does that then get factored into your average, or do you happily avoid its inclusion into the calculation? It sounds like they are making it up as they go along, and I won't go along with their gimmicks.

My experience in Miami, working just 3 days a week, 4 Horus a day. My last payment was about $310. I usually work from 12 pm to 4 to 5 pm. Depending on how busy it could be.

Great video... suggestion; show an actual real example (dollar value) of how much less you make now compared to what you used to make before the change that they implemented. I just signed up for uber today, but when they call me, I will be questioning them A LOT as to how they do things based on what you said. It would be nice if uber gave you a price guarantee, like cable companies, where the rate you sign up for is the rate for the first year!!!! Then after a year, go to one of their competitors who ISN'T shafting their drivers... if such a company exists. Sounds to me like "side car" is the best (and no, I do NOT work for side car.... yet anyway!). Keep up the good work, man.

Thank you Uber Man. Of all the videos I have found, yours are the most informative that I have found. I just recently signed up and am awaiting background check approval. I currently work for a small city taxi service. after 60 hrs weekly I bring home $450 if I'm am lucky. I would like to think that if I listen to people like you, it would be worth my time to take a $5000 dollar loan for a nice black Impala + GPS, Fixtures, Etc, to get started and still, at least maintain my life style and of course hope to do better. The requirement was for my friend was to finish 100 trips in three month and keep rate above 4.7. I could not get this bonus because my friend had finish 100 trips but the rate was 4.5. Ever since than I felt like I couldnt trust uber anymore and stopped driving for them. I barely talk to riders and have above 4.7 and my friend couldnt get above 4.7. My feelings about this might be wrong, but do you know anything about this? If you do can you share??

i ran my tail off tonight. was like halloween. got x and xl rides. im still not doing any subsidy driving. just having fun. drove from 6 till midnight. did fine on money. lots of people out. 50 degree weather and lots of local stuff happening drove surge to 1.3 downtown 2 times.

Jeremy D Very nice. We had surge at 4.5 tonight, which doesn't matter to me, because Uber takes it for the guarantees. There is no opting in to the subsidy, Uber automatically does that for you. :) Nice of them. You can't opt out either. You are automatically enrolled, unless you break the 90% acceptance, don't meet the 50 mins online per hour, or don't take 1PAX / hr average. Without my subsidy I'm at $453. With I'm at $652. $25 in tips. $350 referral bonuses, takes it to $803 without the SUBS, and $1002 after. I plan on being online tomorrow 9 hours which will bring the SUBS total to $1088.4. We will see if Uber pays the subsidy.

I work almost 12 hours a day and they only show 6 or so hours driving passengers from one point to another. No time accounts for driving to the address to pick up passengers. Oh well they are going with non driver cars for Uber anyhow.

I however believe the hard working and strategic Uber driver is now subsidizing the 'Damn I didn't make any money today'/give up in 2 months Uber driver. The constant turn over Uber has is their weakness, now they can slow it down with these promises.

Good on you for showing this. Don't work for nothing. uber was meant to be part time. If you want full-time wages, remember that the service you're providing isn't. I understand where uber is coming from. I understand some don't. Thank you for this video that shows what is being done. It gives all people a chance to work at the right times for the right amount of cash. I only wish uber was more forthcoming with this kind of information. I don't dislike them for not showing it. They have to make a buck like anyone else. I just wish they would pass along the information needed for everyone to benefit and everyone to make a buck.

+Uber Man Honestly, I'm doing my homework for where I'm from. I'm kinda looking for hours. Seeing this is enlightening. It's counter-intuitive for what I would expect. I would expect the native drivers to be rewarded for regular service and the part-timers rewarded for filling potential gaps in service. As I said above, I get the financials behind the current system. I do wish Uber was more forthcoming - and I still understand why they are not. Part of me wishes that I could (if was more into the part time thing) establish a group of people to work regular, off-peak, and peak times to get everyone payed equitably. Maybe, this sort of "I understand" could be a part of the Uber strategy. I think everyone could profit. It kinda sucks that we have to play the same game as the unions of old. :(
