You got it dude! I had that happen on a 1958 TR3 with hood screws; was an exciting few moments to watch my hood spin on the pavement behind me. A/C and alternator must have been "hooked" as the hood blew off. If it tore them....

I had a 1983 6000STE. I really enjoyed that car, had a much different look and feel than the standard 6000. Traded it even for a 1992 S-10 Blazer. Funny story how I got it. It was seized by the police during a drug arrest and the client assigned it to me as part of my fee. He had just purchased it from a used car dealer and he was driving it with a temp tag.. One day he was driving and a cop couldn't read the temp tag's expiration date so he initiated a traffic stop. My client complied and as the cop was approaching the car, he saw the tag was still valid. Under Florida law, the purpose for the stop had been satisfied, so he had no more lawful authority to detain my guy. The cop's spidey senses were tingling, however, and he kept my client there. My client panicked and ran away on foot, leaving the car where it was. It was impounded and they found two kilos of cocaine in the trunk. I was able to get everything thrown out due to what became an unlawful detention and the police had to release the car to me as it had been illegally seized. I went to pick it up and when I opened the door I was overwhelmed with this sickening, overpowering cherry smell. I popped the trunk and found where he had purchased a 48 of those air fresheners in the small pop top cans...cherry scent. He had opened all of them thinking that smell would mask the cocaine's odor from a narco sniff dog. By the time I got the case thrown out, the car had been baking in the hot Florida sun at the police impound lot for a couple of months. I literally drove it home with all the windows open and my head outside the car so I could breathe. It took a lot of shampooing and a bunch of those baking soda odor absorbers to get that cherry odor out. (This was before home ozone generators were available.) Anyway, it was a great car, much more European-like than almost anything American made at the time. and I enjoyed driving it.

See if that 39 is all metal. It’s worth some money if it is! No, I’m not seeing why it was totaled. I just recently seen a car called the Autozam AZ1. Car looks like a mini version of a Toyota MR2. It’s right hand drive, and has gullwing doors. Really interesting little car!

I'm kinda an expert on Pontiac 6000s. The 88-89 STEs were the bees knees... Digital dash with optional AWD and a 3.1L V6! The STE was dropped for '90, so the SE got the AWD option, but I don't think it got the digital dash (I found a wrecked one in a junkyard and it just had the analog gauges). The only disadvantage? No overdrive as the AWD got the TH125C, which maybe it's an advantage since the TH440-T4 was so bad? The AWD system had the angle gear bolted to the passenger side of the transmission, same as how the Aztek later did (but those had the stronger 4T65E).

I would bet the 39 Ford lost the hood driving, and the regular insurance decided to total it. I knew someone with a Chevelle that had a fender bender, insurance totaled it. So he bought it from the insurance company then fixed it for $300. If you have a classic car, have classic car insurance.
