That lbz Chevy is the best year of the cateye. Most reliable Duramax and last year before the DEF and has the 6 speed Allison. Too bad it isn't 4x4. I bought the same truck off copart clean title for 3k I have driven and towed over 20k miles with 0 issues. Never getting rid of it. Id pick that truck over any 2nd gen Cummins just because of the transmission and reliability of the lbz. Also has way better performance.

Came here to say that... The 06/07 is the best of the Duramax and has a 6 speed. Mine was almost identical to this but 4x4 and got 20.5MPG at 80mph on flat ground.

Thats Subaru WRX would make a great first car for Nick!! That 2.0L turbo flat 4 engine makes 268hp!! Mated with the 6spd manual transmission... its a very very fun car to drive!! I have a 2019 STI and it drives like its on rails!! Subarus are ALSO some of the safest vehicles on the road, which is good for a first time driver!! Fix the bumper and clutch issue and he'll enjoy it for years!! That car has MANY more years of enjoyment as long as you take care of them!!

I have not heard major problems with the Cummins V8 itself, just the emissions systems suck and the rest of the trucks drivetrain can have issues. I would not own one, but I have two relatives with them and their emissions systems both failed about 120-140k miles. Once deleted and tuned, been very fine (One had to have a rear end put in).

I really want to like Subaru. When I look at that Firebird I see a big Sunfire. My car is an oil burner. I have used a rag to get home on a windy day when the oil cap blew away.

work trucks arent meant to be show trucks. they are meant to be used and in most cases abused. as long as they are properly maintained who cares if they have some body damage. personally i would choose the ram over the chevy. a 5.9 cummins with the 12 valve is almost bulletproof

What's funny is that "junk" dually probably went through a shitty shop and out quoted its value. These trucks are notorious for junk coolant level sensors. Regarding all of the steering bs its more than likely a junk sensor or 2. I use to work on these for a living. And the knock is because i guarantee that bitch hasn't started in over a month..its called losing oil prime via leakdown. ALL engines EVER will do that under these circumstances. Im a gm guy because ford is trash and ram has the most shit diag software ever created because mercedes made it for them. I like a truck i can work on and talk too via obd2.

It's funny how the Cummins I-6 is reliable while the V-8 is not... For Duramax, it's the opposite. The 3.0 I-6 Duramax has a belt driven oil pump, and that belt is on the back of the engine! So it's a maintenance item that requires the transmission to be pulled (and special tools). Sure, it's like a timing belt that will last 150k, but when it breaks due to deferred maintenance, that engine will be junk. Yikes... I just looked it up, 16.8 hour job. Yep, these will all be junk in 10 years.
