AutoCAD Video Tips: Convert SHX Text from PDF Files to MTEXT (Lynn Allen/Cadalyst Magazine)

Thank you for this CAD tip; it is going to save me a LOT of time. After a quick test I preferred to create a new layer 'Mtext' coloured red, set it as the current layer and opted to convert onto that layer. The conversion isn't perfect and leaves some polylines behind, my way you can turn off or freeze 'Mtext' and clean the leftover lines easily. I found with survey points e.g. 155.53 a tendency for the conversion to lose the decimal point and rotated SHX text was handled very poorly, possibly changing the UCS might deal with that issue. Finally I got best results by setting the recognition threshold really low (50%) and restricting its choice to a single font, styling the MText after conversion. In conclusion this works like OCR for raster text - it is a time saver but not 100% perfect - and the better quality the source data, the better the end result

Very helpful video.I am having issues with the texts while importing pdf files to Auticad. so when i import any pdf file in autocad the texts are displaying as hatch and not polyline . Can you help me to fix this issue so i can convert the polylines to MTEXT.?

Converted pdf become polyline all texts. Mtxt convertion work for zero angle polyline only .

What about the other way around? When I print/plot SHX text to PDF I can't search it in any PDF reader? Anyone have a solution to this? PDFSHX set to 1 doesn't seem to work as expected.

if you still need a solution I'd suggest 'STYLE' and change the offending SHX font to TTF

Autodesk hates Adobe, it's strange to see Autodesk integrates PDF import. When a PDF is there, there is also a CAD program that can export to non-proprietary file format.
