The nice feature about AutoCad is the lessons never die. Thank you for over ten years ago, making this very thorough explanation of Xrefs! You made my life so much easier!! Well done, Sir.

I may be late... but honestly.... I don't think I have ever been so impressed with a you tube tutorial. Very detailed, very clear and easy to follow. Thanks for sharing and the time invested.

Dave, thanks for the feedback, it's much appreciated. From experience, I've found that this area of AutoCAD is by far the most misunderstood and feared by beginners, but once it's broken down to a simple example it makes a bit more sense.

I've been using CAD for over 13 years.... and I'm embarrassed to say it..... since AutoCAD 14. I have been gravely underutilizing the core features of even Vanilla AutoCAD. Where I work currently has opened up my eyes to how AutoCAD SHOULD be used, and I sometimes feel as though I'm starting all over.... Unfortunately at a time when I'm slowly making the transition to Revit. But thanks again.

Make sure that both drawings are at the same scale. You may need to scale the XREF up. The figure of 0.0394 suggestes that the XREF has been drawn in feet & inches and I presume you're working in metric. I'd suggest scaling the XREF file up by a factor of 25.4 (1 divided by 0.0394 = 25.4) and that should solve your problem. You might want to take a look at my video on how to convert Imperial drawings to metric. Once you've scaled your drawing correctly it should insert ok.

is there some way when doing binding, to explode the block? So if I want to copy something that everything does not copy, just the few items I want to select.
