I remember these old AMT kits well from my youth, though I never built this one. Now I've been driving trucks for almost 31 years but never had occasion to get into any of the old Autocars (they're kind of like the old Marmons, Whites and a few other manufacturers that faded away over the decades), for the last I recall seeing in action was an Autocar dump truck that used to be around Hopkinsville, KY/Clarksville, TN. These old spring-rides would beat you to death, though! lol I still occasionally have to drive a spring-ride truck in the North Dakota/Montana oilfield and it makes one appreciate the air-ride suspensions of today. Enough of my flashbacks, though. You did a fine job with this old kit, for the old molds weren't good even back in the '70's. I'd certainly be proud to show off such a build for my own personal display. I'm kinda scared to begin building these old 1/25th scale trucks again, for I'd be tooooo obsessive compulsive with adding air lines to tanks and electrical harnesses (maybe even to those Top Secret batteries! lol)... You mentioned being uncertain about the pogo stick and generally, those could be mounted anywhere about midway between the cab and where the nose of a trailer would be, for the pogo stick simply keeps the air hoses and electrical pigtail from dragging on the chassis. The pogo sticks today (I won't swear to the old days) generally have a spring-loaded base (there is a heavy-duty spring inside) that allows it to bend over with some give but sufficiently strong to stand back up once the truck is straight with the trailer again. I enjoyed your approach to this... One could go as far as they'd like with one of these old kits but your finishing and eye for necessary detail was just right, in my opinion. Well done and thanks for sharing!

It's gotten souch better to I'm 30 and I have seen changes in technology in paints glues and even the way they make the kits the new revell Germany kits and the Tamiya kits are so amazing clean easy to fit together with minimal clean up the paints in spray cans for models are so much better use the testors extreme laquer it's a primer base coat and top coat all in oneldel spray paint and comes out like glass and shiny and smooth with no body work needed and it's amazingly easy to get a perfect paint job with those cans

@@Terraceview almost all of your Tamiya kits don't have motors they are curbside but very extremely detailed interiors and body's and other parts everything else is their except for top half of the motors in some of them and those are the easier kits Les parts everything fits together perfectly and lower level revell German kits they are the newest tooling by revell and all new engineers kits and they fit together amazingly with nice colored instruction books that are very detailed and tells you everything you need to know. You know as well as I do alot of the re-released amt kits have tons of flash cuse they are using the same molds from day 1 most of the time and the instructions are very plain like not much detail on how to build it and even some kits don't even give you a color code or lost of colors to help out new builders lm but go watch his beginner model videos those are great starter kits and even great weekend throw together lots for experienced builders to

@@youknoweverything7643 Thanks for the info. What would a start up paint set etc cost these days? I looked at Revell and there don't seem to be many "starter" kits around. Maybe invest in a proper paint (air) set is better?

I love to build up these trucks and have quite a selection of them, this one and the diamond reo being my favorites and yours looks fantastic. The only thing I really don't like is the fact that most of the mirrors are in up to 5 pieces . I normally put them on before I install the cab , I find it a little easier to get them on while I can maneuver the cab. It would be nice to get the frame in one piece and just add the mirror to it. My opinion. Great job buddy .👍👍👏🇨🇦

Very well done build of the Autocar A64B tractor Doug! I built two of those alone and they were both fun builds! The first one I did was similar to that old red one in the movie Over The Top and the second one I did was similar to yours with a darker blue cab with bright blue chassis and white wheels! At some point I'll build that Autocar DC664 dump truck!

Nice kit you got there! I built the White Western Star kit and had a bit of trouble with the cab. I tried to make it work but it just didn't want to so now it's completely detached from the frame and is only being held up by the hood. I had trouble with the hood not tilting all the way so that was another issue. Hopefully I'll have better luck with the Autocar when I have the time to get it!

@@RightOnReplicas You don't have to tell me what to watch out for regarding this kit as I've built it and a couple more AMT/MPC semi's recently. They are an embarrassment to this hobby. Ancient molds that weren't very good even when they were new, assembly instructions that look like an old coloring book and the nerve to ask around $50usd retail. We don't have much to choose from when it comes to this particular genre so we're pretty much stuck with these abominations. It's nothing personal against you as you seem to be the most realistic at pointing out flaws with these kits, but there's still to much cheerleading and sugar coating concerning these frankly terrible models. The money they want for these poorly molded diy toys is a big ask when other manufacturers offer much higher quality for their wares at comparable prices.
