I’ve been in trucking most of my life and around trucks since I was knee high. The Autocars like the many that were operated by Colonial Sand & Stone of NYC were about the best and largest of the Autocars built. The story goes NYC had issues about the weight of those mixes because they claimed they would bend solid steel sewer covers on the streets. The Autocars was no nonsense equipment. I lived near Colonials Coney Island Plant. As a kid I would sit on the curb on Cropsey Ave in the summer and watch the many Colonials trucks go by. I still look at photos of the Colonial Autocars in magazines. I enjoy those photos very much.

Like heaven loved ole acars had 70 triaxle dump 240 Cummins but always loved my Detroit's started out operating hd 6 with Detroit have had 671 6v53 318s ty sir for the memories

For those wondering, the thumbnail Autocars are DS64s. They replaced the DK64. To my knowledge they only saw production between 1987 and 1988. Then in 1989 the DS64 were replaced by the ACL64.

The short hood Autocars are actually DS models. The DK’s are the regular length hoods. You could get the DS in fiberglass flip nose or steel butterfly hood style.

I'm guessing most went to the scrappers? Interesting window decal at the end, meanwhile everyone seems to hate unions, of course a lot are rotting from the inside out. Lots of juicy ideas for us truck model builders. The red tipper trucks have the old military '60s style rear suspensions. Kind of glad some are missing the rear wheels or you'd never see that. Details like these are very hard to come by.

My Dad had an Autocar set up for Heavy haul and I an International Transtar Cabover and flatbed trailer I pulled Steel out of J and L steels Aliquippa works and Dad had a lowboy and a step deck for Heavy equipment and Big Heavy special order steel from J and L steel in Aliquippa and Republic steels ln the Midland works I would love to build the Ol,man another

Yes, I have a better camera with an external mic and windscreen. It's a bit cumbersome in these situations. It's hard to find that perfect setup.
