Sticks shows us how NOT to achieve a fast time in Autocross by driving too fast, sliding around, and finally melting a cone on his exhaust after brutally hitting it in the final section of course. This Autocross event was with Renegade Miata Club on 7.27.24. The course was super exciting and tough to find time on.

Video breakdown:
This video is NOT how you should drive to achieve the fastest times. This is a good example of driving too fast and aggressively, constantly breaking traction and sliding, adding time to a run. I was also on new alignment settings, and trying to dial in tire pressures to balance the vehicle. During this run early in the day, the car was far too tail happy and easy to slide. This was probably my most exciting run of the day, but the time didn't matter, I way overdrove the car. It can be fun to slide around, but it but kills your average speed and time. The slowest feeling runs are usually the fastest in autocross, staying in grip, achieving the highest corner speeds and G-Forces. After the big drift towards the end (no cones hit), I carried too much speed into the final slalom and nailed one of the last cones with the center of the car and it got stuck under there. It was melting on the exhaust and smoking and it ruined the cone, huge hole in it. (I said sorry) The final section of course I was using 3rd gear, (when driven right I was averaging 5-7mph faster than being on the limiter in 2nd gear) making it easy to acquire too much speed for the slalom before the finish.
