Considered the MG5 Alpha, Vios G and The City RS for some time. Ended up with the RS got it a few days ago. No regrets. Best of both worlds Vios reliability, comfort and parts availability plus MG5 refinement. But I have to admit the MG5 has many features that I wish my RS had.

Toyota is a boring brand, my family would always get a toyota badge. When it's time to get my own car I thought of buying a different brand as each segment has the same price range and toyota without any cool stuff making it the most expensive of all. In the end I got a toyota, its now 7 years without replacing anything except from the wipers, bulbs, break pad, fluids, battery and still runs like the day I bought it. Most people go to Toyota just for the peace of mind for a very long time, and mind you... Peace of mind is priceless.

It's IMO "easy" to slap tech inside cars and still have a cheap price tag since electronics are quite cheap these days. But when it comes to the important stuff like the transmission, the engine, reliability and having parts available on the same day instead of waiting for months...the choice is quite obvious. But if you're not planning on keeping the car beyond 5yrs, the MG might be a better choice. Resale value is going to be a lot lower though

Just a prediction. I think the car market in the Philippines will have the same outcome as the smartphone market. A ton of cheap Chinese cars with more features will start appearing. Filipino locals will doubt the quality of the cars at first. But after a few years, these Chinese cars would be more frequent on the roads, due to the availability of cheap parts and multiple dealers that provide service. It's like how Chinese smartphone companies like Vivo, Oppo, Realme, Xiaomi, 1+, and Infinix take most of the Philippine Smartphone market share. Japanese, Korean, and Western manufacturers should act fast if they don't want their dominance in the Philippine car market to plummet. More car features with a cheaper price might save their foothold here.

@streamingvideo6654
@streamingvideo6654 3 жыл бұрын
But then again Chinese cars aren't cheap, they're priced the same as the competition. They should undercut the competition by at least 20% price-wise. Chinese phones did that by offering "high-end" features on their sub-15k phones whereas their competition sell for 20k and up. But they were able to do it because of their manufacturing and supply chain prowess. Can they do the same with cars? Also, many car buyers still use cars for "status symbol" and that requires brand heritage and prestige, which the Chinese, Indian, Russian cars, etc. do not have (yet). Smartphones are easier to buy than cars, so people are more frequent to try new brands. You'd have to shell out at least 500k for a new car, and in that case it won't be easy for people to risk it. It's true for electronics that more features usually means better, but not for the car market, especially for the frugal ones and financially smart buyers who'd like to keep a car for at least 10 years with less visits to the casa. In contrast, most car brands operating in the US or other countries offer their cars with better specs or equipment. Compare a US-spec Civic vs. a PH-spec or any model, and the one from US will come out with better value. The question is, why can't it be done in the PH?
@ajing00
@ajing00 3 жыл бұрын
@@streamingvideo6654 Answer, they know the market. Some markets like US, you need to provide better feature to be competitive. Here, "Toyota yan, Honda yan! Maganda yan!". Our market that relies too much on brand recognition doesn't foster healthy competition for the known brand to try. Why would they? even if they offer inferior products it will sell like hot cakes anyways. Most Chinese(or china-made) brands have proven themselves in other countries, and they actually offer almost the same feature here as well, so why undermine their tenure? Because it's china? MG has been around longer than toyota and what they offer is actually from their main lineup. Vios is not even from Toyota Japan.

I understand what you're trying to imply but in all honesty, it feels a little bit misleading to state that having additional features and techs at your disposol compromises the value of the car. Well, this is mainly due to the fact that these "techs" actually aids to your safety and driving comfort, and no, it doesn't cause that much headache since some of these features are never going to interefere with your driving, not unless you activated it manually which is very reasonable. To add, these techs and features are far more superior from what was introduced before, securing little to no errors or bugs that may cause such headaches or problems in the future since ECUs(Computer Boxes in Automobiles) nowadays are also getting more and more refined, and should there be any issues are easily fixable through your local dealership (Casa). Ironically, the standards of automobile value today are usually based on the features and tech to price ratio, given how tight the competition is in the industry of automobiles. But then again, we have our own perspectives and I just hope you find this a little bit conducive.
@corolla9545

@@heyjun1283 even if ECUs nowadays are getting more and more refined doesn't mean that there is no chance it would cause a problem, and most problems concerning electric circuits are hard to detect, yes it is fixable but what if this happens when you're in the middle of nowhere and local dealerships are miles away. Now, I'm not implying not to buy techie cars, actually what you said is true, it aids comfort and safety but these technology as I've said sometimes causes both your head and your pocket. Since you're pertaining about chances then aren't all of the vehicles have the chance to break down at any given moment? So, basically, you're just arguing about something that's entailed when buying a car because we can't deny the fact that one way or another vehicles would always bear the chance of breaking down at the side of the road, can we? Also, some tech that could be a probable cause of electrical problems found in MG are in the Vios, as well. So, the vios could, by chance, suffer the same issues as the mg as well, if there are any. This is the problem with most automotive journalists and reviewers. They heavily emphasize on how the car looks, how loaded it is with features we dont even need in the first place, how shiny the paint is, how one car with a sunroof is better than one that hasn’t. What is the most important is how reliable it is, how easy and how cheaply it is to maintain, how it will hold up over time, the quality of the parts, the engine, the transmission. Will it last with minimal amount of maintenance. I mean, what is the number one functionality of a car? To get you from point A to point B. How can you enjoy a car that is loaded with features when it falls apart after a few thousand kilometers?

Yeah. I was kind of hesitant too to get the MG5 because reliability,durability and longevity is not proven. I’ve taken the risk and let’s see how it goes haha. So far the after sales is quite good and you will not pay a cent on maintenance for a year, then you will pay for the consumables if there are any need for change but the labor is free. Spare parts though is quite an issue. Most of the parts are available only on casa. And you are lucky if you get the part you need in a week. I’ve read that some waited for about two months in order to get the parts they needed. Maybe due to pandemic. So far I’m happy and the MG5 has not failed me. Vios wins due to reliability and toyota branding. MG is not bad at all. In fact, i believe its worth your money as well. It's just risky since its new in the market but it's how you take care of it anyway

In that price range, I’d rather go for 7 seater MPV like rush, xpander,ertiga or xl7. We could also consider some crossover like coolray and tiggo buy like what Sir Caco said, your choice because its your power.

a lot would choose vios, personally me too. but if you want a new experience and a bit unique on the road mg 5 is okay, especially if you'll used it for around 5 yrs then change after to resell it at around 300k is a bit diff (unlike vios). but if you want to settle for a longer use then vios it is. yet if you have a bigger budget may as well choose city.

Toyota reliable. If it lacks features, you can upgrade it and enjoy the whole car for the next 15 years with it's great reliability and maintainability. MG might have better "tech" but you certainly can't upgrade the reliability it has as it's a Chinese car.

Yeah you will need all those features to entertain you while you’re on the side of the road waiting for the tow truck. Toyota engines and transmissions were bulletproof. It will bring you from point A to point B (which is the most important function of a car by the way) reliably for many years to come without falling apart after 100,000 kilometers.

Tapos ganun padin interior, mas nag mahal pero puro plastic at prang tinipid padin ng sobra. (opinion ko lng) I really love Toyota pero pass muna ako sa Gen4, I'm thinking na ipalit sa Gen3 nmin is MG5 or MgzS muna. Abang nlng for future sa vios Gen5 bka maganda na.

Compare any value competitor (MG5) to Toyota (Vios), this can quickly edge out Toyota. It is a grape vs lansones comparison. Toyota's product people aim to just be competitively priced vs country mates like Honda and Nissan and more recently Korean marques. So naturally, many toys are left out to meet the target selling price.
