Agree. Really, you get more of your money with Montero. And surprisingly, more so in the lower to mid-end variant trims. The only reason you go for toyota is for the toyota badge with a promise of good resale. But whats the point of buying if you fixate on resale and suffer while using it. Owned both, have to agree with you that indeed driving comfort, driving fun, versatility, plus added features of the montero makes it an excellent value for money. More power autodeal! :)

Fortuner is a decent buy, save for the nauseatingly harsh ride, back-numbing seat cushioning, lack of toys and features, and steeper price compared to the MS. Looks good, reliability is there, except maybe for the bland profile. Would've been what I chose when I was in the market for a midsize SUV but it was just lacking compared to the MS. Also no switchable 4WD with MT option that you can use on-road for extra traction too. Just saying. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Currently using 2015 fortuner. I have no issue at all. Yes matatag but that doesn’t stop me from using it. Planning to get the current gen of fortuner, but I changed my mind. Now I am thinking of getting a 2nd hand montero. It is way cheaper, more feature’s and also reliable as-well. Personally I love fortuner, but its really lacking of safety features which is I really need as of the moment because I have a toddler who’s always traveling with us.

I used to own a Montero Sports but sell it to buy a Fortuner V. Agree that a montero has lots of features, but it’s about the prestige of the Fortuner that is hard to beat.

I currently use an older model of Montero (2015) and I have the same dilemna during that time on what to purchase between these two most famous SUV midsize models. I was convinced when I test drive both. Montero rides way way better than the Fortuner. You can feel the bumps and twists of the road with the Fortuner. It feels like riding a cheap revamped SUV. And that was 5 years ago. Up to now, it seems Toyota haven't fixed that yet. Plus Montero is 6-digit cheaper than Fortuner. The Montero's top of the line variant also has a lot more features than the Fortuner's. It is a mystery to me why Fortuner keeps beating Montero in terms of sales (double in the Philippines). Probably it's because of the Toyota brand.

In Saudi Arabia, it has backup camera + sensors. And top base of it is VXR 1-3 models aside from GLX here. VXR versions comes with 4.0 V6 with 240hp + 355 pounds of torque. No hate!

We chose and bought the Montero over the Fortuner due to one factor of consideration: the Montero has disc brakes all around and the Fortuner at the time only had rear drum brakes. Drum brakes!! For a TOTL variant! That tells me that as a company, Toyota banks solely on their brand name and thinks the Philippine market settles for mediocrity.

Specs alone Mistsubishi Wins hands down. Our family has both SUVs when it comes to interior and occupants space the Fortuner wins the Montero feels kinda snug. The Montero wins in almost every aspect but it didn't win the sales chart. Amazing review and video as always keep it up!

SUA is a cause of computer glitch in the acceleration system, there's no way you can see it coming. That's why the vehicle becomes uncontrollable since the other controls are overpowered by the glitch.

I used here in abroad my fortuner but it wasn't good for me lalo ang suspension, back home i have my 2016 montero and ito lang masasabi ko, ang sarap e maniho. Tipid mabilis,maganda ang suspension mas advance and brake at safety features lalo na sa ahead run mo ang galing. Both naman maganda nasa sa inyo nlng kong alin ang gusto nyo.

I love toyota but i prefer the montero this time. I drive a hilux 2017 and here are problems: 1. Auto Transmission clunks when shifting d/r to P; 2. The auto transmission is also not that responsive; 3. Not much technology considering its price; and 4. Firmer ride compared to other brands. But, it's engine is super super good. Base on those enumerated, i think the fortuner also have those characteristics considering that, the fortuner is based on the hilux.

I think parehas naman maganda montero and fortuner. Depende nalang talaga sa preference ng tao. I drive montero gt 2018, maganda yung features niya sa sensors, helpful siya lalo sa masisikip na lugar or parking lot. Parehas naman sila masarap idrive nothing wrong, kanya kanya lang talaga ng taste ang tao, pero for me, Montero all the way!

I have always liked montero ever since but the look of it is not as versatile as the fortuner. From its release until now, i still get mixed emotions of its design that is sometimes i like it sometimes i don’t. I was hoping i will grow on its style but i am not so sure as of now. But what i ended up being in montero is for its standard safety features and value for money. I dont get why fortuner is not having the back up camera as a standard feature. It annoys me though because i still have to ask for casa or after market installation. But i will have to buy fortuner if its for style and performance reliability. Toyota has always been a steady household name for Filipino automobile consumers coupled with the fortuner’s longer running name as a midsize suv or ppv. It is a tough battle. I just had to get one. Im just glad a filipino comparison was made for this. Thanks a lot AD :)

i still prefer the fortuner over the montero. you get better reliability with a toyota than a mitsubishi. we always had a mitsubishi in the garage from the 1970s up to 2012 but they weren't as reliable as toyotas. we get a lot more peace of mind with toyota.

Alex Romualdez we had a toyota in the 90’s and i was glad that they were serving free burgers and drinks while waiting for our PMS to be done. And i am still amazed how toyota is able to manage to keep their PMS cost at the minimum. But so far, my experience with mitsubishi is that they do not have the same free burgers and drinks though, lol. But we have been using two monteros already and i did not have problems with casa services. Although with my 2011 montero, we had manual transmission problems like 3rd gear could not be switched from 4th gear. So we had to settle with running neutral for a while to get into 2nd. And that clutch was heavy for my taste. I could not tell for fortuner though. Good thing we are using the AT now. There is no doubt about toyota’s reliability. It is a known truth. With parts available in the aftermarket, that is one less of pain in thr a**. Lol. The only review i had in the past about fortuner was their suspensions. It is a little stiff thus negatively absorbing road bumps. My parents before were so particular with ride comfort so we set aside fortuner and looked for another. :)

Toyota gives out free breakfast these days while you have your car serviced. Sometimes they even wash the car for you. We had a bad experience with Diamond Motors when we had our 1999 Galant fixed there but that wayback in 2003. Although our experience with Citimotors was okay. Of all the cars we had ever since, our 2004 Camry and 2013 Camry, were/are the least troublesome. Our 2004 Camry which we sold almost 2 years ago did not have much problems when it reached 10 years old. The aircon was still ice cold when it was old. It got towed once in 2016 but that was just because of the shifting cable. Unlike our past cars most were non-Toyotas, they would already act up when they were old already and the aircons were not so good anymore. Abuse is partly to blame but still. All my parents care about is reliability and trust with the brand. Although I will admit that I should have convinced my parents to buy a City instead of a Vios in 2016. I also look for the premium looks and features.

Alex Romualdez the city should have been a good choice but vios is a good buy also. I just hate the fact that they are all over everywhere and used as grab cars and most taxis. Good thing honda does not allow their cars to be taxis. I should be looking for toyota service centers here in cebu that serves breakfast. And i can really tell toyota’s reliability because even those first model fortuners are still running the roads and highways here in cebu. But yeah, we are stuck with our 2 monteros and is still running perfectly well minus the old model’s transmission problem. I could not say a lot for the fortuner since we never tried it as our family’s car. It really is a tough battle between the two. We had good years with toyota before. And mitsubishi, running our 8th, was equally good. It must be the japanese trademark. But I am actually courting my parents to get us the Rush more than Xpander :)

the reason why i should have convinced my parents to buy the city instead of the vios was because it the former feels more premium and luxurious compared to the vios. if not the city then the altis. yes, i kinda regret not convincing them to buy the city or altis instead because i find the vios so ordinary and plain. although i beg to differ that i do not have a problem with vioses being too common and used as TNVS cars, taxis or fleet cars. ps-thinking of driving to cebu all the way here from manila when i get a fortuner.

Reliability and resale value... These are SUV's, they are built to be reliable, may they be Toyota, Mitsubishi, Ford, Nissan or Isuzu (Nevermind Foton and Mahindra)... So stating that toyota is the only reliable is just pure BS. There are a ton of 20 year old car there made by makers other than toyota that are still running up until this day. So don't claim the word reliability for the toyota brand only. Resale value on the other hand is a very subjective matter just like the tail lights of the montero, some will say its ugly some will say it looks good. LIkewise, in buying a car some will consider the future in advance and think of how much they can sell the vehicle even before buying, while others buy their car thinking if its worth every hard-earned penny they are going to part with.

Lmao my whole family have Toyota's. That's why other members keeps buying them. That's the reason why it has double the sales of Montero. When you have a car that lasts a lifetime you wouldn't want to risk it with other brands.

Yeah probably! Toyota has many loyalist since they made a big name for reliability way back the stone age. But does it mean that other brands are not reliable now and toyota is the only reliable brand? Yeah, i get it, you and your family are toyota badge fanatics! But as far as I am concerned, Ive got a 9 yr old Montero that takes me wherever I want almost every single day and it never even had a major malfunction apart from a dead battery and busted break light. @@CocoroKun16 Well where I live for the last 15 years, Mitsubishi is basically extinct. Nobody buys them & I cant remember the last time I saw one on the road. Toyota basically has the best resale value because everyone knows you get your money's worth. Although mitsubishi is attractive because they usually undercut Toyota to sell their vehicles, I just wouldn't risk it now that I have personally experienced Toyota.
