All of this has been talked about promised before I was a freshmen in Architecture school 20 years ago. It's maybe slightly closer to reality, but the idea that highly variegated building components will be the same cost as repetitive building components is hugely optimistic... The tools will not drive better design, wiser choices will drive better design.

An example of better design is energy efficiency. Running varying window sizes/positions/shading through a program to find the optimal combination is designing a better building. That's not far off from where we are now.
@clemente.cisneros6 жыл бұрын
Whoever doesn't know how to use all the tools available for design will definitely affirm that those will not drive better design. If you know how to use these tools properly and exponentially, you will have better design and all of what these tools promise. I was able to deliver a project in 5 weeks, with only 2 interns and a SPM, and of which it would require a team of 10-15 people and/or more than 5 weeks of work.

Without adequate tools, creating better design becomes hard. A potter will have a hard time forming the clay without his wheel. If the potter gets an order to create 10000 identical clay pots, we all know an automated process does it better. Using the appropriate tool at the appropriate instance definately drives both a better design and a better product. The wisdom lies in knowing when to use what.

I really like having the option to create a tool that is not available. Although the debate is what progress should we expect from the software developers that we have been paying for already. Essentially some custom tools should come with the program automatically. I don't mind building custom tools for custom scenarios but it can be very frustrating when software developers do not create an out of the box tool for such common applications. When you pay for a membership to a gym, many of us expect all the common excersize equipment to be there by default.

I am an American living in Spain and I´d like to offer myself for free to translate the subtitles or if you´d like to record a Spanish language voice-over for your 2016 presentation to get more hits for you in all the Spanish-speaking countries, as you may know there are several global engineering and construction companies based in Spain, including Sacyr the one that built the new Panamá canal.

Excellent video. I've got some questions. Is there a way to model geometries like grasshopper did without using rhino but working just with dynamo? Time ago I needed to model some weird geometries for an historic palace and I did pretty much the same thing I've seen at minute 20:40 . The point is that I want to be shure what the best worklow is: Grasshopper + Rhino works fine for modelling and having a deep control on geometries while Dynamo is more for manipulating data from the model in Revit and managing it in schedules? Is this a correct vision of what to use during the project workflow? Thank you in advice Steve from Italy
@AlanEnriquez7 жыл бұрын
Very nice, But some info was too biased for Autodesk. Graphisoft has the technology of translating Rhino+Grasshopper directly to Archicad without manually translating forms to building elements.

Very interesting and very good presentation. I am architect and development BIM, day by day I am impressed and I learn with the easiness that the technology develops in everything that we use daily. I'm interested in learning more about algorithms. In this way and with this technology the construction processes could be more efficient and much better although I feel that those who work in the construction world especially in Mexico need to devote more time to the training and learning of new technologies and to start accepting the Changes to make the work easier, faster and better quality.

Also, how we're finally moving to a free software model and still making money. Also, the term for the future is not cloud, it's crowd. Also, how we're moving to things like crowd sourcing, crowd rendering, crowd communication; Also, your software is still stuck in the polygon world; NURBS has been here for decades and you're still not up to par;)

BIM is just data modelling and exchange at the end of the day. Software engineers have been doing that for half a century. I think intelligent optioneering is the future of design. I.e. the software walks you through a series of questions /answers / decisions, presenting suitable options at each step (constrained by user-specified brief / requirements) to arrive at something the user is satisfied with and output the data model and geometry for build.

Why not just use a Genetic/Evolutionary Algorithm? (or re-purpose the several that already exist as plugins to Grasshopper, like Galapagos). All of these ideas are like 8-10 years from the past. It's great that Autodesk and Revit/Dynamo are finally catching up, (I guess?).

Actually this is progressive. Rather than having to do rows and rows of piles manually, it would be better to have it automatically generated with all its dimension and necessary information in an excel spreadsheet. Generating piles columns and beams are faster than manually modelling it and other areas can be prioritized for real modelling in the BIM model especially in big infrastructure projects like Railways, tunnels, Plants and many more as opposed to buildings.

lol, there will be a time where the user will just ask the program the house they want by voice, and the program will generate the design. Then the user tells the program how they want the design, the program will provide all the possible and impossible resolved options with all the documentation in order to transfer the info to the machine that will build the physical house. So there will no longer be architects as we know today, but a person who is in charge to give maintenance to the program while there are creating a self-maintenance feature for the future. Because the program adopted all the methodology regarding building design and documentation and will generate the info automatically and adaptable to the user's choice. The user will say, just give me a building this way and will get it done by the software, and there will be no need for architects nor structural engineers and MEP professionals.

The same effect could've been had by hanging uncut profiles of stained dimensional finish lumber at varying/undulating heights & calling it a day. Nonetheless, give the Kid some time, he just needs some practice in the art of 'Seeing'. His next few attempts might actually be kinda nice.
