Don't watch if you're tired, must admit i was tired when i started watching this and fell asleep at soft top explanation i think around 43:28 ish, (and i actually like Bill's commentary), and woke up in a daze to Bill driving and half yelling something about today's crap at 55:05 (and thinking yeah i agree, keep cars simple). It's a long one this one. Guess i'll go back and watch from soft top again (true fan style).

By far one of the best 560sl reviews I have ever seen, live or otherwise. I have owned a 560sl for the last 30 years, and with the exception of maybe pointing out every service item, you’ve basically hit every detail worth mentioning. The history lesson & jokes were also instant classics like the car. Absolutely stunning condition, even MB cup holders, this car must have spent 20 years of it’s life in somebody’s “guests only” living room. Congrats! Great find and hope she gets a good home and sugar daddy to pamper her.

Got a special place in my heart for this Merc. My first job as a copywriter was on MB. I got to drive this sweetheart on the Nurburgring before it came out and pushed it to 150 with no fuss whatsoever. It was the first new SL in 12 years and they wanted to make sure they got it right. They sure did.

Personally I love the round headlights and big bumpers and I grew up around the Euro versions of these. These are absolute classics now and beautiful to look at. I love it every time you do a video on one of these. You've done quite a few already, but don't stop.

My Dad had a blue 560SL in ‘89. He chucked me the keys to go for a ride, picked up my then girlfriend, now wife, and floored it, eventually getting a big speeding ticket in Nassau County. Dad never got a ticket in it, to my knowledge. Special GT car for sure.

I drove it from California to south of Mexico, back to California and then to Toronto and back to California. Within 3 years (living between California, Mexico and Canada). I love your running commentaries! They're just brilliant! My first car was a 1956 Mercedes 190 Sedan that took my father and I 2 years to do the body work, which we leaded. Not a speck of a Bondo anywhere. The actual engine and mechanical stuff was a cake walk. Now, I think my last car is one too. A 2003 Mercedes-Benz CL 55 AMG. I bloody love this car . It's the fastest, most comfortable car I've ever owned. Anyway, I really love watching and listening to your Mercedes shows. The cars are amazing and you tell the stories so well. Carry on, Sir. I know this is a fairly old vidy, but to me, it is one of the very best I have watched, of yours! Firstly leading off with the cat. I love your aversion to animals, birds, insects, and the weather. It is a riot when you give such vivid descriptions and dissatisfaction when they are not to your liking. Brilliant! Next, continuing on with an excellent and in depth history of the SL, with an interjection about Dustin Hoffman, and his uncle. Up next, time travel back to 1989 for an excellent brief history of the years events, compete with a dash of displeasure with a fly. Then back to the cat, before a quick review of a 300 SEL, followed up by an evaluation of a beloved golf cart that has been abused and neglected. So awesome! Going back to the SL history lesson/review, it was briefly interrupted by some flying birds! This one has everything that makes your vidys great. A great car and great commentary. Well done!

When I was young and dumb, I was obsessed with owning a 1972 280SE Coupe. but I was poor. So I settled for a 1972 280 SE 4.5 4-door sedan. Great car for awhile. Lovely freeway cruiser. Window switches always needed replacing. That 560SL has so many carry overs from my 280 SE.

Wow, I did not expect to finally learn definitively what SL stands for in this video of all places. Absolutely brilliant. 29:35 I believe silver being the MB signature color goes back to the 1930s where they had race cars that did not have any paint on them in order to save weight and thus the cars' colors were the pure silver metal, thus being named "silver arrows". Mercedes carries this tradition to this day with their race cars being usually silver in Formula 1, the German Touring Car Championship, etc. .

Absolutely love this car! It still always surprised me that a car at this level still had plastic windows in the soft top. The lack of a headliner is also surprising. Volkswagen Beetle convertibles had better tops, with glass rear windows, and fully insulated headliners. Still, absolutely gorgeous car.
