Super cool adapter. Why does the adapter not AF for video though?
@charruaporelmundo6 жыл бұрын
I just got the techart pro with firmware 6 on sony a7iii. Eye AF, Continuous AF does pretty well following my kids running arround , is just fantastic. If you have a7iii by now, maybe you should do an update of this video. by the way, I'm wondering about that voigtlander too :/
@gill77286 жыл бұрын
Excellent video with wonderful information. My question is mounting old eos 5d mk.i adapter while following the route of Techart Pro adapter L/M and mounting EF L/M adapter. Will this combination will work for AF. Mounted lenses will be less than 700 gram. Any opinion in this direction will be appreciated.
@mavfan17 жыл бұрын
I've had mine since late last year and you're right that it's best with wider lenses. One complaint I've heard is that the top of the adapter can come loose. I think this would be made worse by mounting heavy lenses so I usually stick to lighter ones.
@TheSeanMichael7 жыл бұрын
+mavfan1 thanks for your report. I have a Voigtlander 35 f/1.4 coming this week and I think that relatively small lens will stay on my adapter most of the time. While I don't expect technical performance on par with the Sony/Zeiss 35 1.4, this route is much less expensive and I'm sure the Voigtlander will have character.
@mavfan17 жыл бұрын
Haha, I die a little inside each time I hear about the character of a lens, it's a nice word for flaws. ;-P That said I shoot with several Konica Hexanon lenses a, Leica 50mm F2 and a few Leica R lenses as well. I find I like the results despite their flaws.....er, I mean character! ;-)
@TheSeanMichael7 жыл бұрын
lol, true... after reading up on the Voigtlander, I'm prepared for plenty of "character" especially wide open. :) But for my purposes I think it will be just fine. I have the Sony/Zeiss 35mm f/2.8 which is lauded (and criticized) for its crisp clinical rendering. If the modern Zony was an f/2 I'd likely have no use for the Voigtlander, but I have wanted a compact fast 35 with AF. I'm hopeful that Zeiss will roll out a Batis 35 someday. In the meantime I'll be using the Techart solution.

Thanks to your vid and a couple of others I just ordered one. Like you I am getting older and eyes getting sadder. Listed and selling all my Canon gear to move over to Sony. For size alone let alone the specs, I have ordered Sony A7 III. Another reason is I have in my possession 7 leica lenses left to me in an extensive Leica collection. Was wondering how I might utilise them after 10 years now in a display case, 3 of them brand new Titaniums: 35mm 1.4, 50mm 1.4 & 90mm 2.8. Similar range in Summicrons too. I know right! Can't wait to try the system out. All that glass at my finger tips for all these years. got to thinking what the point was down sizing the size and weight of the camera only to put on massive lenses. May video my experience when I get the camera and adapter.

AP, $400 is half the cost of a descent prime lens. That being said, you can purchase several older lenses and this adapter for the price of one new Sony E-mount. Covering all your ranges in one lens is an excellent way to shoot mediocre. Thanks Sean, good review.

Very good information, thanks! I have a Voigtländer Skopar 35mm f2.8 with Leica M mount and a Voigtländer Nokton 58mm f1.4 with AIS Nikon mount which may both benefit from that Techart Pro adapter! I have one comment/question though: the my 35mm is an all manual lens, without any electrical connections and the 58mm, although having electrical contacts, will also need a Nikon to Leica M adapter like you used on your video which haa no contacts! How will my Sony A7II camera communicate with the Techart adapter to operate the AF? I guess I'm missing something...?

Hi, it can works. I also have aMinolta MD 50mm f1.4 lens, it can be used with a MD-LM adapter with the techart adapter. May I know the image quality of your 1.2/50MM with wide open aperture?
@Magnetron6924 жыл бұрын
Jiahui Liu Hi Jiahiu, wide Open it is rather soft like most lenses of this kind. This is due to spherical aberration. It has however core sharpness (with a veil). But with software such as Piccure+ you can correct a lot and improve the image. This is possible because apart from the softness and contrast loss at wide open aperture, there‘s this certain core sharpness, which retains a lot of detail and resolution.

The adapter-maker should work on getting it to support the A6000. But why M mount? When you say M, is this different from M42? The company should make the Sony version native to the most popular nonAF lenses among Sony A6x00 and A7* users. Probably Minolta/Konica or E mount or A mount. At the very least, they should optionally offer the adapter with a variety of small/dumb adapters rings- so people can start using their variety of lenses (we all tend to have a mix, right?) with rings that have a known quality. I think it would work better if this adapter-maker also made the interstitial adapter rings- as opposed to the "try your luck" rings from China.

Buy a L shape bracket to put on the bottom, so the Techart would not stand out and can land flat, if you know what I mean. I have been using it with A7Rii, even with Leica R 180mm f3.4 lens, it can focus, of course not as fast as 35mm 1.4 lens.

@mavfan17 жыл бұрын
enigmamotorsport not if they have a Sony mount. The base unit takes Leica M mount. If you have a Canon or Nikon mount Samyang or Rokinon then you can use a Canon or Nikon to Leica M adapter and they'll work.
@enigmamotorsport7 жыл бұрын
mavfan1 yes the rokinon manual lens is canon mount, based on your reply I can assume will work or correct me if im wrong. Also if you can tell me, will work on video too?
@mavfan17 жыл бұрын
so yes, with a Canon EF to Leica M adapter you can use it. It's made for photos, the focus does not work during video and even if it did the motor makes noise as it moves the lens back and forth to get focus which would be a big problem if you're recording sound.
@axmarr81327 жыл бұрын
Great informative video. I think the size is an acceptable compromise considering the device has to move these, imo, top tier construction (all metal) lenses. Thanks for sharing :)
@TheSeanMichael7 жыл бұрын
Thanks, and yes they needed a big motor to handle these heavy lenses. I'll have my Leica mount Voigtlander 35mm f/1.4 next week, so stay tuned for a follow up video.

I heard that after awhile the adapter becomes tilted. Can you confirm the situation? Thanks.
@andylive867 жыл бұрын
i can confirm that. after been using for some time, the inner focus mechanism will slightly *tilted due to design flow
@mavfan17 жыл бұрын
I've read this but I've had mine over a year and have not experienced this issue. I heard that the problem is that the top of the adapter isn't held together very strong so with stress it could start to separate. Knowing this I do not put heavy lenses on it and I do not store it with a lens attached either.
@TheSeanMichael7 жыл бұрын
My adapter is relatively new so I haven't experienced any tilting. Nice tip about not storing with a lens attached. I'll typically be using smallish pancake lenses anyway.
