I dont mind the amg styling but i feel the ground clearance needs to be abit better for a adventure vehicle especially once loaded with people and luggage for non air suspension models

It’s nice but personally I prefer the California Ocean in 4 wheel drive version. These vehicles will get used and abused so a luxurious interior feels a bit out of place.

They should have additional self levelling feature under the rooftop bed. 2 degrees change not enough. It's a winning feature but not for 2 degrees. Does it improve with smaller wheels??

A sort of AMG glamping which looks fun. The thing that strikes me immediately is that at €100k would you not be better off with a series of stays at proper five star hotels where you do not need to get through the overnight glamping stuff and might get a nice meal. What is the point of a glamper at this price? That said, if you changed the use case to a long term home then this nails it. The alternatives are narrow boats or caravans, and this is so much better, especially if you an afford to replace it from time to time. A very odd vehicle.

I suppose the argument could be for a family this is a similar price to a Range Rover. It drives likes a car, looks good, you can slide the seats forward and put bikes in the back so it’s great for leisure weekend use, and you can use it as a camper too, it isn’t a great deal bigger than a large suv so you can go to supermarket or school runs etc. You could do Europe in it and if you couldn’t get a hotel you could sleep in this instead. Also this won’t lose money as fast as a Range Rover etc.

Your math doesn’t seem to Be quite there. If a class V AMG with same engine costs 80k then what you are paying for Marco Polo is just 20K which still gives you a good few nights in 5 star hotels but not as many as 100k

​@@Ragorar Maths may be all wrong, but the point is at €100k you do have options which include the hotel. At my age I would rather have the hotel. How I got there might or might not include the €80k AMG, but might include a Smart or Mini which would be much more fun than a Merc van.

Great review, liking that new dash with all its integration, i have a 2017 MP and nice to see MB havent messed with the the basic camper layout as i think its a classic design. Also nice MB have added some nice touchs such as the zip open vent on the front. Comparisons with the Cali are meaningless for me, if you want to follow the herd you buy the VW, i looked at both when buying and in my opinion if you want something with a touch more class and exclusivity you buy the MP. Tip with the Scottish midges, just dont bother with Scotland sadly the little blighters make it unbearable, done one tour and never again.

Interesting that Mercedes is not selling the EQV as a campervan. It is possible, but from a third party campervan builder (Tonke). Not sure if Mercedes now sells these items, but the magnetic tableware and cups come from Silwy. Same for the magnetic blinds: these come from Project Camper.

I hope they include BS1363 sockets for UK/IE/MT markets instead of those Europlug sockets. Looks quite nice, although they should have added a V-Class badge on the rear alongside the Marco Polo badges.

The seat electronics continue to operate after the seats are fully lowered to extract air from the seat bolsters. This creates a flat lying surface. When the seats are raised, air is blown back in.

Since 2015, this car hasn't really changed at all as a campervan. No new solutions that affect the comfort of use. The only bonus is the hydraulic level adjustment of the car. Just hiding the seats in the rear doors will increase the luggage space. A simple change that Ford Nugget recently decided to make, and it makes a huge difference. The situation is similar with the external table. I also don't know why there are still no factory-fitted solar panels on the roof in this type of car. On summer days, a fridge that works for one day and one night can completely discharge the additional battery (even when fully charged). It is natural that we drive such a car into nature, where on warm days there are a lot of mosquitoes and other similar creatures. So why aren't mosquito nets factory-fitted again? Of course, if you search hard enough, you can find something with magnets on the internet, but shouldn't that be the minimum we should count on in this type of car??? The Mercedes Marco Polo positions itself as a luxury mini campervan, so why isn't the water heated in it? etc. ;) To sum up, in its current form it's an impractical, expensive toy that can comfortably sleep one person. This is my personal opinion :) However, one day I would like to see a new version of Marco Polo, which will have such a original design as the VW California Concept :)

I do prefer the Marco Polo over the California Ocean because of build quality and materials. The California is all plastic and looks and feels cheap (let's not forget it still is a +100k € vehicle when you add some options). *But* the reason I chose the California Ocean nonetheless was the practicability. Especially the way the chairs and the table are stored in the California is so much better than in the Marco Polo. There you lose nearly half of the storage space if you take chairs and a table with you. Also I like the roof much more: the window in the front and the darker color. It may look nice and give more light during daytime with the white fabric but at night or in the morning it is much to bright (for me) for sleeping. I hope that Mercedes / Westfalia will fix that at one point (I am waiting for this since nearly ten years). Then I would never think about buying a California again (especially not the new T7 version).

From my humble point of view, this van has an identity crisis. An AMG styled, sporty van for camping? Who is interested in carving curves on a race track between camp grounds? I am sure there are a a few persons out there that think this is the best thing to happen after sliced bread, but I doubt this will be a significant revenue generator. Maybe Mercedes will recover its research and development costs?

It’s useless the Mercedes Westvallia Kalpa One is so much better. You get a cassette toilet and an indoor shower, in the same vehicle, as well as a L shaped rear seat. How ever the magnetic crockery is genius.
