Love all your videos! Thank you for recommending Koch Chemie 3 stage kit...I just finished doing my 2017 Buick Lacrosse and it came out fantastic. I am really hoping you could do a video on how to fix interior trim. I'm referring to the *fake wood panels used in so many cars. The area next to my shifter peeled some of the clear coat out of nowhere and now looks very bad. I'd love to see a video on how to remove it and reapply a new clear coat on the trim instead of spending a lot of money buying a new one.

Great demo. One thing I find slightly confusing as autoglym's product range grows is how their products work with each other. Lifeshine. Extra gloss protection, polar, seal ceramic coating. It would be useful for them to have an infographic showing which products compliment each other and which ones to use instead.

Absolutely agree. At this point, I think that Autoglym is focusing on releasing products and possibly ignoring the correlation between previous products and new products.

Im big into car cleaning and I'd love to use a ceramic but I have no way of guaranteeing the car stays dry for 4 hours (best I can do is checking the weather report) or keeping airborne dust off for 24 hours and I'm not sure most enthusiasts can. What I find with Autoglym is that before release of a product it goes through a shelf life experiment so that once bought it will last unlike a lot of other brands. I have used all Autoglym products to date and have not been disappointed with any of them. Great scientific review as always.

You're right Jon, a lot of people knock Auto Glym products, I think there's an element of detailing snobbery tbh, maybe because Halfords sell the stuff perhaps? I have used a lot of their products and quite honestly have found them to be excellent. Just last week I used their Extra Gloss Protection and my car looks pretty amazing still. To the naked eye I think there are hundreds of products on the market and most people simply cannot tell the difference in end result from one to another. Try different products, build a collection that you like and get along with and which gives you good results at a price that suits you I say! Excellent evaluation video byw mate 👍

Hi Jon. Good video. I personally love Autoglym products and think nobody can actually say bad things about them. In portuguese we have a saying that is :"When a team is winning, dont touch it" and I think this is more or less Autoglym philosophy. jon i would like you to investigate your process of measuring gloss of ceramic coatings. I belive that that do not reveil a full shine until they have been washed 1 time due to the fact they will leave behind materials. Should we be giving the ceramics a light washing before measuring gloss? if you could try this on a test panel with your machine and say if there is a measurable difference in all the metrics. You can post reply on Patreon if you want with screenshots.-assuming you get the time to play around with my suspicions that some of these ceramics are leaving behind materials, and they do not get removed with a buff, rather need a light shampoo wash to remove the left behind material hampering gloss results.
@ForensicDetailing4 жыл бұрын
interesting question dave. these products will for sure be leaving materials behind, thats literally what they have to do. These materials are there to protect the car and add gloss. In this instance the carrier is a hydrocarben and that will disapear. What happens after this with this AG product I dont know.. Is it another RTV moisture cure product??? Does a state change occur.. I think from a YT perspective I test gloss after product stated curing times. Ive done gloss retention testing before when I did my ceramic comparison video. Im 99% sure gloss did not go up after first wash though but my metering equipment suxed back then. Im testing some wheel coatings right now dave and I can have a look at first wash results compared to full cure results. Im about 99% sure full cure results will have peak gloss.

Hi Jon, I bought the ceramic coating a year and a half ago and only had time to apply it yesterday, haven't had much of an opportunity to see the performance yet but when I went over with some detailer, it looks relatively impressive. Unfortunately, it proved difficult to work with at some stages, more down to the conditions than anything. It was very difficult to gauge how much product was going onto the pad, and I was also placed under a bit of pressure due to intermittent direct sunlight and dust/flies that resulted in the very frequent "oh f*** off." In my opinion, this product wasn't easy to buff, I went back over to buff each panel thoroughly twice over, and I have still found lines and product patches dotted around the car, I'm hoping and praying won't bake on, but as you say, it's relatively forgiving. I'll let you know how I get on next time I wash it, hopefully all is well by then 👍 UPDATE: All good news, after applying BH Touchless and washing/drying by hand, pretty much all of the excess product/trails came out with not much buffing effort, I'm convinced as long as you get rid of all the excess "sticky" residue at the time you apply the product first time, you will be fine if you make small mistakes. It is highly recommended that you use Rapid Detailer across the entire car after applying the coating, and going over it with detailer (or a damp towel) again on the next wash. Performance is really impressive, I topped it off with Autoglym's ceramic spray wax and it's beading relentlessly even after the first wash, I would highly recommend.

It all looks good and 100ml should do 3 cars (albeit not 3 massive SUVs!). My only reservation is that I am not sure lightweight ceramics are worth it - all that prep but only 6-12 months. I'd rather do the prep then install something that will last a couple of years and hardly costs any more. I think it's lack of beading is a good thing as it's beads that pick up dust which causes dust spots all over the car.

Love your channel. I am torn between using Armour Shield IX and Car Pro CQuartz UK 3.0, topped with SIC as a ceramic coating. Which would you choose?

Really helpful video as Im now looking for a low risk beginner "ceramic"as I learn. Quick question: From your possible conclusion that the "ceramic" is more likely SIO2 based, I'm thinking a good budget combo would be to add ICE and Shine spray on top of ceramic as the basis of the products seems really compatible and I'd get the best of both worlds? same gloss as a wax, now beads and presumably the ceramic potentially lasting longer as its also protected? Then I could top up with ICE when beading slows to make it last longer? Is that combo likely to help me achieve a budget friendly combo giving great results with decent durability? If so this "ceramic" could actually be perfect. To prove your point If they DID just label it as SIO2 based product I would have bought one already....

this is the most on point comment. autoglym are guilty I think of under-hyping this product. they literally make so few, or no product claims about improve dirt repellency or contamination build up reduction. They are also the first company I think or big company to recomend topping a ceramic style product with their own paste wax. I thought this would be contravershall. but no one has really mentioned it in the comments. So the only issue or the thing going thorugh my mind is, should I pick a ceramic product which is claiming dirt repellency, and providing maintainance products which also compliment this. I would almost want autoglym to hyype the product up more, tell me more about the benefits, and provide a SI02 topper for it rather than wax..

@@ForensicDetailing that was spot on. One thing I never came across was stacking ceramics with anything. I had no idea if you should or shouldn't and thought maybe it was just a "known" that I didn't know as I hadn't stumbled across yet. I think I'll try it and I'm still thinking it to be pretty good tbh. My paint is hardly great so not like its a ferarri. or anything. I'd certainly like to hear a video on experimenting on your garden bonnet, the possibilities of current market stuff stacking with ceramics or any other combos that are particularly well (chemically?) suited. I've been stacking wax with ICE on top since I started two years ago (I added ICE to what I was already doing when that came out, i just assumed two things are better than one) and its worked fine so far, so now I've no idea if that is even "normal" to everyone else and I'm already the odd one out. Thanks for your response, def getting this AutoGlym on my wishlist.

You can buy the applicators in Halfords I bought one about 3 years ago, was desperate for something to apply megs tire gel one day and opted for that... it’s still going strong for dressing them 😂

Great review mate 👌. I love Autoglym stuff and glad to see they have entered the Ceramic Coating realm. Maybe once my Gtechnic needs redoing I can give it a go. The Lance look quality too!! Top video, really enjoyed this one.

Hello John, I used the AG ceramic coating, is there a produce that you use to wash the car that helps prolong the life of the coating.

I am having a bot of a problem with the dry conditions here. very dusty for past weeks. I find car is covered in dust so easily I find gyeon wet coat is better than sealants and wax but I was wondering is there anything better for dust repellency ? any special sealant maybe - I don't have a garage so ceramic coatings difficult for me! dust too

Great review 👏 thanks for going into such detail makes decisions much clearer for my car .... going to try the ceramic tho I have been told if water dries on panel it will leave water marks that are a bit difficult to get out compared to a wax finish..... what's your thoughts with this ?
@ForensicDetailing Жыл бұрын
Just must not let water dry while it's curing. M8. Use a ceramic detailer to stop this
