Ceramic Coating - is it worth doing yourself? Autoglym Clay Bar, Polish & UHD Ceramic Coating

It is super important to wash the car before claying the paint. If you go and clay a non freshly washed car it will load the clay quickly and induce more damage... Also spray the panel down and your clay... you want to maximize the lubrication. If you want you can use many polymer based rinceless washes to make your own clay lube for a fraction of the price of rapid detailer. Clay bars are a mild abrasive so it will get down to the clear coat. However one may want to use a good compound to take out deeper paint blemishes before polishing. It doesn't make sense to use super resin polish before it's a silicone based polish and WAX which means you gave yourself more work because you must remove the protection and silicone before coating... He is right the prep solution is just enough for 1 car. However 100 mL of the ceramic coating is tons for 3-4 cars. This is not a glass like coating it's always very soft and missed highspots can be buffed down even days later. It's a liquid inorganic polysiloxane resin. It's chemical resistant and hardness is way less than hard Sio2 coatings.

A few things for you... firstly pull those tags off your cloths as soon as you get them, they can scratch the surface. Polish will only remove extremely light blemishes, it won't remove swirls marks, you need to use a cutting compound and a DA and medium or heavy cutting pad, well worth doing if you are going to this amount of effort. Try a Bowdens claying rubber instead of a clay bar, will save you hours.. it allows you to hear as well as feel contamination and you only need a bucket of clean water to wash it out between panels (or dropping it !). Otherwise very good video and I agree... after using this product, for cost, it is very worthwhile... I was out in rain and used to get a lot of dirty water spots on bonnet... only had 2 after using this and they wiped straight off with water and no marks to paint work

I've ceramic coated my wheels using Gtechniq C5 makes them so easy to clean. I don't have a garage / indoor area to do the paintwork but looks like you've done a great job.

Top job it looks pretty damn shiny to me! the main thing being your satisfied. I have always finished at the SRP stage having never had indoor/undercover area to do ceramic coating.

great and honest review! I love autoglym products, I ceramic coated my car with gtechniq liquid crystal and it was a lot harder to work with than what this looks like

Won’t the preparation solution just remove the polish bringing it back to the after clay bar stage, making this a wasted step at extra cost?

@@DjPaulSavage polish doesn’t leave a coating! Polish removes minor scratches and imperfections in the paintwork. That’s why once polished you should always wax (it’s the wax that gives the coating). So the preparation stage isn’t removing anything ahead of the ceramic coating. I hope that helps.

My preferred method is to clay bar, polish and then ceramic coat every second year or so and in between use wax to finish after washing

100ml of the ceramic coating should be plenty. I have done my Discovery 4 a couple of times now and always have plenty. My Discovery is 12 years old now, and the paint still looks like new. In between treatments, I apply a spray on ceramic maybe a couple of times per year.

This coating only lasts a year - not worth buying. Choose another product that will last 3-5 years.

@@FastandFun i just mean use half the prduct and its muts easy to wipe off vhen its dry most People use way to muts and thats why its so lomg to dry up regards from denmark 😊
