I was literally tackled by an autoimmune disease in January 2019 (which worsened over 6 months), and had a thinner intestine lining, bloating and a gastritis. I had neurological problems (problems with walking, speech), pain in my hands, extreme fatigue in all limbs and one thing after the other simply seemed to follow while the puzzle pieces slowly came together. Looking back, I had it for 20 years with intermittent periods of unexplained sickness and fatigue, where doctors only found a ' spastic intestine' and the occasional 'hormones going haywire'. In 2019 I had severe B12 deficiency and D3 deficiency, despite a varied non-vegetarian and healthy diet. I had B12 (Cyanocobalamin) shots, but empirically noticed using the variants Hydroxocobalamin , Methylcobalamin or Adenosylcobalamin were better/more easily absorbed). I need to take a cocktail of other vitamins as I still don't take up as much vitamins from my food. My health improved with following strict AIP diet and after it maintaining a dairy, gluten and (mostly) nightshades and coffee-free diet. I could work again, but still felt like having the flu constantly with limited energy. Combined with low-dose Naltrexone (for which there are quite a number of recent peer-reviewed medical articles out there on its efficacy for autoimmune disorders like MS, see also met-enkephalin/OGF for even studies in cancer) I'm at nearly 90% of how I felt where I could function normally. I love cooking so I'll sometimes take a guilty pleasure and use some chili's / tomatoes, but if I eat gluten or dairy I get diarrhea. The autoimmune disease was identified with antibodies, since I take LDN (Low Dose Naltrexone) they lowered to nearly under the diagnostic threshold. Anecdotally, my German doctor is now treating two other MS patients in her practice with LDN (low dose naltrexone) - for which they no doubt, also signed a liability agreement. I had inundated her with these peer-reviewed medical articles prior to becoming the first patient on LDN. .But consider how our food is produced these days (preservatives, sweeteners, insecticides), how much contaminants are in the sea or in fish farms (quite a few papers/docu's on that out there too, look for Norwegian salmon on KZbin)- and how you consume these. I think diet (even the "healthy" ones without fizzy drinks, fast food) and lack of sun exposure (vit. D3) is a main factor for autoimmune and weak immune system problems. A holistic approach as explained in this video has been beneficial in my case and in a few other patients. I'm also growing my own vegetables in a community garden. I think taking a hard look at the weird stuff we may now find normal to consume is necessary.

Epigenetic interventions can modulate gene expression, so we can influence genes for the better (or worse). As for membrane hyperpermeability (leaky gut in common parlance), there are reams of peer reviewed scientific research to support it's existence, contrary to the TED assertion above. It is time to move on and tackle this auto immunity pandemic.

As I am watching this I am experiencing a flare up in my hands, neck, and shoulders. I have tried DMARDS, but have found little relief from them. The only thing that helps me is steroids and I can see adverse effects on my body.... I wish I could learn or be disciplined enough to eat right.
