In over 90% of the "ammo detonation" cases it is NOT the autoloader that detonates / cooks off in T72 tanks, but the extra ammo carried outside the carousel. Ammo detonation does not have anything to do with the carousel, since all the tanks detonate if the ammunition they carry inside is inside their hulls (just like with Leopard 2 for example). The thing is the carousel is a reallly small target in the T72 (its much smaller than T64 or T80 carousel) and it has some protection, but it also can carry only 22 rounds. Hence, the need for storing the extra ammo in a bustle in T90M, rather than loosely around the turret and hull.

Was going to say the same. There's a lot of people out there ridiculizing russian tanks (all thanks to the memes) that don't know that. Funny enough, all the tanks in the worls excluding some very very few modern tanks store rounds inside the vehicle. Their turrets don't blow up because there is no carrousel autoloader to ignite when a round pierces it. Fun fact is that the crew inside don't really give a shit if the turret ejects or not, they are dead anyway.
@user-tv7fg7wt2d
@user-tv7fg7wt2d Жыл бұрын
@@iasha740 Not having a carousel does not prevent turrets from blowing off. Leo 2s in Turkey got their turrets pop even though they didn't have a carousel. Type 69s during the Gulf War got theirs popped as well. As long as enough pressure is pumped to the turret, then it will blow off.
@erichammond9308
@erichammond9308 Жыл бұрын
Actually, have you ever heard of "blow-out panels"? Most modern NATO tanks are equipped with blow-out panels that vent the explosion and won't launch their turret. The autoloader system prevents the use of blow-out panels. So, yeah, the autoloader system is what causes the Russian tanks to launch turret and crew into low earth orbit when they are hit.

The relatively light weight, reduced dimensions and low profile of the tank provide a number of important advantages. These are increased cross-country ability through mud and small bridges, reduced visibility of the tank and more chances of a miss when trying to hit this tank. You should also not forget that this and other Russian tanks are much more mass produced. Russian technology is also cheaper, less demanding in operation and maintenance, and this is often forgotten. In the final comparison of all parameters, the Russian tank and other Russian weapons are much better suited for mass war

"Much more mass-produced" yeah maybe the older obsolete models As Russia can't afford to mass-produce the newer models. "Russian technology is also cheaper, less demanding in maintenance and operation" Which likely just means it won't operate as well as its Western counterparts do (furthermore many of the newer tanks like T90 and Armada use imported technology from the west or elsewhere, computers for various things Optics, Etc so its not even Russian technology (Oh and it tends to be older tek aswell) "The Russian tank and other Russian weapons are much better suited for Mass War" In a mass war were you expect to lose your cheap and easy to mass-produced things on Mass they Sure ARE THE BEST! Because if they weren't going to be lost or destroyed on mass why would you make them cheap and easy to mass-produce to begin with? Unless of course you were expecting them to be lost and destroyed on Mass. :] Good old Soviet Doctrine quantity over quality

@o.k.2968 Size matters in many cases, when, for example, a low tank is not visible behind a small building, a small hill. It's easier for him to dig a hole to dig in. When the target is smaller, it is more difficult to detect it from a long distance, for example, from a UAV. The operator may not notice it, or spend more time detecting it, and in combat every second is valuable, he loses his time. This time is received by the enemy and used to kill you

Steering works a bit differently, lever has two positions. First engages lower gear in planetary mechanism so the corresponding track moves slower. Pulling both levers together slows the tank but puts more force on tracks, this is used to clear most difficult obstacles. Second position applies brake to that side.
@azgarogly
@azgarogly Жыл бұрын
Wasn't it two stage planetary gearbox, so the lever has a forward driving position, first position for wide turn, second position for tighter turn and rear position for braking the track?
@Alex-og3ev
@Alex-og3ev Жыл бұрын
@@azgarogly No. T-62 and earlier models had one main gearbox and two of these two-stage ones on sides for turning the tank. But one gear in them was direct and one low so the lever was working just the same. T-72 and newer got two independent main gearboxes, one for each side, and lever engages lower gear in corresponding one when pulled. Although I was told that they don't have that second "brake" position anymore, and latest T-90M got steering wheel instead.

@octopus_news Every tank "is capable of" being destroyed by pretty much any weapon. The point is where and then it is hit. Most modern main battle tanks frontal armour would not be defeated by rocket propelled grenades. But the engine deck is quite vulnerable from above. When the drones in Ukraine are flying above the tanks which has hatches open, even the 40mm grenade dropped well can disable the tank.

With regards to which tank is better in combat (Abrams versus T90) - I think 🤔 it depends on who gets off the 1st round. Personally I wouldn’t want to face either one. 1. Hitting the carousel is extremely unlikely, because it is very low. The tower is torn off only when the reserve ammunition located in the niches of the tank ignites. Almost all tanks have such compartments in the hull. In the T-90, the carousel was additionally armored and the niches in the turret were removed to further reduce the likelihood of fire. 2. The presence of a steering wheel in the t-90 does not depend on the "overhead", but on the modification of the t-90. 3. If the carousel runs out of shells (and this happens extremely rarely), the tank commander and gunner act in turn as loaders. 4. The T-90 has significantly smaller areas of vulnerability compared to other tanks. 5. And most importantly, like previous tanks, the T-90 can fire missiles from a tank gun. You didn't say anything about it.

Unfortunately, we have also seen the beautiful design of the burning Leopard and Challenger tanks, and someday we will see the design of the burning Abrams tank. ;) It doesn’t matter what a tank looks like, the main thing is that it performs its tasks. The designers of Russian tanks are brilliant because they very quickly adapted the tank for war with drones. English, German and American developers are not even going to do this. Which only emphasizes that the Russians are trying to save the lives of their fighters, while the Europeans and Americans are leading them to slaughter.@@snuggleseal
@snuggleseal

@Andy-kl1ry look at all that nonsense you just wrote! The point of the T90M being poorly designed is still the ammunition carousel sitting directly underneath the crew. We've seen in Ukraine the T90M be destroyed with basic drones that still are able to penetrate the ammunition, which causes the crew to burn alive, and the turret explodes. You can count on one hand the Challenger tanks destroyed, so stop trying to cope by changing the subject. we all know the Challenger and Abrams have far superior crew safety with completely segregated ammunition. We've seen in Ukraine the Russian T90 be destroyed with grenades, actual grenades not RPGs or other bombs, grenades dropped through an open hatch then the fire starts so fast the crew burn alive. It's a terrible design.
@Andy-kl1ry

Now you, read that nonsense you just wrote! :) Your knowledge about Russian tanks is limited only by the information that propagandists put into your head. That’s why you are so loudly indignant :)) If you had bothered to look for information a little, you would have been surprised to learn that almost all world tank building schools have the habit of storing ammunition inside the tank. Also, if you Googled a little, you would find statistics on the percentage of hits in the very bottom part of the tank's hull, which is where the carousel is located. The number of destroyed Challenger tanks can be counted on one hand, only because they are FORBIDDEN to be put into direct combat with Russian troops, so that their reputation is not destroyed in the same way as was done with the Leopard tanks. And it is for this same reason that the delivery of Abrams to the combat zone is being deliberately delayed. After all, no one will need a marketing tank that burns perfectly even if hit by a heavy machine gun ;)). And the new design of the T80 and T90, which I wrote about, provides protection against javelins and drones hitting an open hatch. By the way, most of these videos are fake, created by Ukrainian propaganda for simpletons like you. PS Believe less in propaganda and live more with your own mind, that is why God gave you mind.@@snuggleseal

Many people misunderstood that if the turret don't fly the tank crew totally safe. The auto loader storage place right inside the driving cabin. Sound like sit on gun powder barrel but not really is. If some projectile can trigger that ammunition, it penetrated the armor and got in the driving cabin. An explode inside the cabin (which is a close space) would kill any crews inside. It mean if the bullet penetrated and explode inside there is not much hope for crew whether they are siting on a gun powder barrel or not. Heat ammunition main purpose is to behavior like that. It pen then explode inside spread hundred of sharps to crews' face. The separated ammunition storage design with blow off panel like Abraham only can protect crews if projectile hit the ammunition storage. The risk is still there if it hit the driving cabin. Maybe we won't see space projects like Rus Tanks but remember we don't need to open a pot's lid to well cook food inside. What cook the food in a pot is heat and pressure. The reason why Rus Tank seem lack of crew saving features is because it's mainly designed to fight on muddy land of east Europe plain. After all, if a Tank can move, all of safe features become useless. Moreover, they need small, low profile tank to hide in a vat open space.

8:28 Armor increase wont eliminate the problem, the explosion would rip that turret apart anyway. Its more about shrapnels of the entering projectiles not detonating them in the first place and causing, hopefully, less damage. 10:08 its called slat armour officially but welded structure is decribing it fairly well i guess 11:29 No mbt is suited for urban combat and its not due to power to weight ratio or ground pressure.. Some can do better than others but they all fail due to simple inability to even retaliate due to limited elevation of those big cannons and having so many exposed angles around you while your own situational awareness is si limited that you have to completely rely on other units. Not beeing political here but we saw russians try to bring their mbt's into urban places and it failed hard enough for them to avoid it after. But overall great job, I would not want to make it seem like the rest of the video was not great in terms of accuracy or visual representation. Im glad that this subject is getting more and more visual material.

Yeah if the turret gets penetrated the crew is probably finished regardless of what happens to the ammo.

Don't forget, "fire the tank." No, the gun is fired, not the tank, lol.

@@Aitelly well I don't know about that, but the title looks like somebody had a stroke writing it. It just looks unprofessional. The whole point of the video isn't only the autoloader so I don't really understand it, then again I don't run a ytb channel.

@@tackytrooper yeah well, there are more issues like this in the video... The gun on T14 armata isn´t the same. Coaxial machine guns are coaxial thus they don´t need wooden handles. They don´t mention why Shtora isn´t fitted, it´s just interesting for them. They can´t pronounce relikt and don´t mention that it degrades penetration of different projectiles differently. The hard kill protection system isn´t even used. The pros and cons don´t make sense since the autoloader impacts the crew size, reload speed and reliability it is both a pro and a con.

The T90 is actually a great tank high mobility and low profiled but the only problem is that it more prioritizing the combat ability of the tank rather than the survivality of the soldiers.

Why is that? If you're talking about the automatic loader, then not everything is so clear. 1) most shots arrive at the tower or upper frontal part, so the defeat of the automatic loader in scrap is extremely small, but even with this condition - the defeat of any tank in the lower frontal part, leads to its destruction in 80-90% of cases, which in total gives 0.5% of the difference in the probability of hitting the tank head-on. 2) when a tank is hit on board, the turret crew is hit (for all tanks), which allows you to make a second shot, finishing off the tank, here I don't see much difference whether the tank will be destroyed by an explosion or the destruction of the crew. 3) now it is worth mentioning the real argument: the defeat of the tank through the roof is really not uncommon, but it does not guarantee the defeat of the tank, because the cumulative jet needs to get to a place where there will be no crew, breech of the gun, or emptiness. There is about 15-20 such spaces in the tower% And now let's remember that the combat compartment of the tower relative to the hull occupies only 25-30%. As a result, we get a chance of detonating the automatic loader in the region of 5%, and this is without taking into account the fact that NLAW can fail, or the shooter himself will mess up (which will happen in most cases, because it is very difficult to shoot with such weapons without preparation) Conclusion: yes, the automatic loader does increase the chance of an explosion of ammunition, but this chance is + -3% (in comparison with other tanks, and I don't take into account those cases when NATO tanks have shells in the hull, which is quite common. @@MATERYKT-90 gets hit, the only survivor will likely be the driver assuming they make it out in time. Western tanks allow for a bit more time to get out. Its been something in practice since the M4 sherman.

@@PugilistCactus an extra 0.5-1 second will not give a huge advantage, I don't think this is a strong argument
