2 things: 1)THANK YOU quoting me 2) You dont need a clock to check if the storage is full or not. Put a presure plate in the hallway of the smart storage. When ever a dub gabs some iron he will trigger the pulse like the clock more often then a clock ever do and making shure the box is always full and only drains power if relay needed.

This was great! When Klei implemented automation in the game I didn't know I wouldn't live without it in my saves haha This production mode with the memory thing is so cool. I just learned how to use it and made a way to refuel my rockets with liquid hydrogen so that the pipes don't stay full, potentially breaking the pipes when the hydrogen heats up. Thanks for the tutorial Brothgar, definitely gave me more ideas on how to implement automation on my base :)

Instead of the memory unit, you could set up a feedback loop from the smart storage. Have the automation from the storage also go to the power shut off, then the storage will stay on whilst more iron is needed, but turn off when there is sufficient, which would minimise overflow completely, whilst also reducing power consumption as again, it only checks if there is enough metal every set time interval

@8:55 and that is my issue with the smart storage bins, logic threshold and max storage are linked. So now your storage bin is full and send active logic (when you apply the power), but the there is now excess material that really should go into that bin but can't because max storage reached :( the bins need two sliders 'max storage' and 'active at'
@ModEngineer4 жыл бұрын
Way to fix this with less power usage is an unplugged auto dispenser dropping the items onto a weight sensor

Not sure if it would give a noticeable improvement, but you could also limit the periodic signal to the work time period for further energy savings! Or even link it to a weight plate to update the storage status only when dupes go close enough to the storage (that is, when they store/pick up material) :) Love your vids!

And now you just gave me an idea for a fun challenge: A Big Ben map on which EVERY production system must work with a clock. That would take up a lot of refined metals but heck, it would be a lot of fun to do :)

Use a pressure pad to save power with the auto sweeper. It should only be drawing power when there is something to sweep.

Did you have the set/reset switched for the latch gate? Also, why not just have the weight plate to stop machine once so much is on it, and then set up an arm to move it into a box. Once it is full, the arm will stop, and the plate will collect enough to stop working. How will this work out once scaled larger? Say you wanted 500 of each metal, you'd need a machine for each, but a lot of the circuit can be reused
@Alrion17045 жыл бұрын
0:10 yes i do. storage > notgate > mashine. 6:20, now to the interesting part 9:00 beyond max is bad for food =/ 17:25 order of load can be achieved by priority (numbers) aswell??

Hey Brothgar. Its probably not something new and revolutionary, but: Have you ever tried cooling a metal refinery(MR) with a steam engine? A couple of months ago I saw your steam engine video(s) where you cool down oxygen to LOX, and finally found a usecase for it. And now, with some automation shenanigans and shutoff valves, you can have some fun with oil/petrol and the formentioned steam engine/metal refinery combo. If you wanna "flowchart it", then you could also include some of the other stuff I do with the MR. After i've gotten my shower/toilet/sinks, i use the P.Water to cool the machine before the water enter the MR, and then it goes to the sivs, effectivly killing the 100C PWater into 40C Water. I'd send you my most recent game if you wanna take a look, but i have a hunch that you can figure it out yourself :P

You are missing the mark with the weight plate. Use that with a buffer and filter gate to check the smart storage container a few seconds after there is no longer any weight there.
@the_furf_of_july46524 жыл бұрын
Currently halfway through the video but, going to put my idea here. if you put a duplicant motion sensor on the storage. If you have it check the storage once whenever the sensor turns off, it will stay up to date.
@LTL_king5 жыл бұрын
I have been wanting to do something like this with food. Bringing food up from the storage down below in the CO2 or Chlorine straight up to the mess hall with a conveyor system. Try to eliminate a little travel time and dupes eating into the sleep time. However with the conveyor system. It bring up to much food as the time the loader stays active is to long. Also there's the power usage on the smart containers in the mess hall. That is if you have to bring up for a few days worth. Hmmm. Maybe a put a clock sensor to turn on just before down time. It turns on long enough for a sweeper to grab a few different food types. Turn on and off the different loaders for each food type at different invtervals. It all goes up into the food bin. I noticed you don't need to keep them powered that long. Even with using granite. They don't heat up very fast when turned off.
@HungryHunter5 жыл бұрын
If you know hom much food the frige shut store and the time of the sweeper to put it in the delivery system, why dont you not put a buffer gate on the frige that only holds X seconds so the sweeper only sweeps Y amound of food into the system?
@PyrokineticFire14 жыл бұрын
you could try an intermediary storage for you food-loading arm: if the sweeper arm that's loading the conveyor can only reach 1 food source, a box with a reduced capacity setting, the loader arm will only be able to grab & load the amount of food in that box. that'll let you send smaller packets along the conveyor (1kg). that might reduce how much excess is sent to the pantry(s)

Why don't you add a pressure plate underneath the duplicant working the granulator to check whether A: the machene is being worked, or B: a duplicant is interacting with the storage and only run the timer then?

**Are you going to revisit volcanoes.** The 1st gold volcano I tapped into was down by the oil. I had a small area with some insulated tiles around with an access point beside there. Say 10X10 for storage of the gold and cooling area etc. I tried using dupes moving things around but the sand dirt etc kept piling up and you have to remember to dig it out every couple cycles. I tried an automation system. Vacuum and without. Everything kept over heating. I'm trying again in this save. I built a decent size area. Having a little PO2 water dribble on it. Have the digger and sweeper near it but above. Still over heater but plenty of steam. 5K in every tile. Yet having the steam gen beside and above it. Steam only gets to 100-110. Not hot enough to kick it on but more than enough steam. I last left it in the build stage of everything on the same level and going to try to submerse it everything in water. Water comes in from the side past the digger and sweeper then hits the volcano. Not sure what will happen.

put eggs or the egg-cracker a room only accessible via a mechanical airlock that opens/closes based on critter sensor. alternatively don't "crack" the eggs, store them in a bin. they'll crack themselves & drop as a raw egg outside the bin if not used.

Assuming it's at a dead end, couldn't you just use a well placed weight plate for the power shutoff? It'll be active more as dupes fill it, but for materials you're not going to use often, the smart storage would never turn on until they grab something from it. Then again, narcoleptic dupes can always ruin everybody's day.

Im having a hard time figuring why. In what circumstance is this useful. From what I see it basically limits the production, but you can already do that if you dont use the infinity function and just use numbers. Can someone explain? Sorry for not being a man of culture Ps. Love your vids Brothgar
@nitawa.5 жыл бұрын
If you use the numbers, you have to manually queue more production when you run out/low of the material. But in a big base you might forget to do so and it could delay you. This way, you can forget about it... ultimate automation style!
