I just seperate it into two chamber but I build it next to the Volcano, and the Volcano chamber is vacuum, I just let the magma touch the heat transfer tile( only 3 tiles). On the right chamber, I just let the steam turbine water output drop on top of the heat transfer tile. When the magma turn into ig Rocks, I just use the sweeper on the left chamber to pull the ig Rocks to the right chamber and drop it right below the water output of the steam turbine, when the water drop on the Ig rocks it will increase the temperature again.

Did a quick test after my last comment using the lava biome, just tungsten plate tiles above lava, it worked better with no shift plates at all What you want is that rain effect when small amounts of gas condense but not enough to form a liquid block Not sure how it works but the result is the phosphor gas is *always* between 280 and 300; with some tweaking it could probably be made to regulate within 5c by balancing the load/turbines with the thermal resistance of the input side This may not work so well with a volcano though, but using the lava biome i built a completely passive steam turbine. The phosphor regulated the temperature so well that there was no reason to use automation

This may not be very relevant and you may already know this, but if you have an airflow tile in a vacuum, then it will not conduct heat at all. at the 17ish minute mark, I noticed your steam turbine is only outputting 1600g/sec. It should be 2000grams of water. Did you not have enough steam in the steam chamber to support full running? EDIT: Also, I haven't finished the video yet and maybe you talk about this, but one steam engine isn't enough to handle the DTUs from one volcano unless you allow for wasting heat. By my calculations it will take around 2.5-3 steam turbines to handle a volcano during its active period. Let's assume 1700g/s average output on a volcano. This would be 1700*1601.85 DTUs per sec (1601.85 being the difference between the magma temperature and 125 degrees celcius, which is what it should get down to eventually to run steam. So a volcano is producing a theoretical 2723kDTUs per second during its active period. A steam turbine can handle about 878kDTUs per sec to give 850 watts. So you can see that one steam turbine really can't handle a whole volcano on its own. Eventually you're either going to be building up heat in the magma room or running the steam turbine above optimal temp.

@Brothgar I think you are making a lot of problems for yourself by having the volcano be at the bottom of the chamber. Both because you end up with material on neutronim you then have to work around + you can just add a sufficiently large reservoir of water beneath it and let the lava drip down. Now you can easily create as large of a thermal battery as you want just at the cost of a bit of space. As long as the water mass is sufficient to absorb a round or two of eruptions you can just add more as needed (since steam effectively takes no extra space the more of it there is). Maybe I am missing some crucial point, but that seems like the obvious low-tech solution to this problem that would also be efficient.
@happymann10005 жыл бұрын
You are right. It is a rube goldberg machine to be fair. And with water as the thermal mass you can have collectors to pick up your material made out of gold or better steel placed in the water as the water only ever reaches 100 degrees max before it converts to steam. As long as you have enough water the neutronium does not matter. Maintain the water level and you can collect whatever is being produced.
@ashurroth65855 жыл бұрын
Could you save even more power and create a heatsink for the turbine by adding another chamber on top of the turbine and putting a polluted water holding area there? If the turbine room gets over 100 you purify water for free and the excess heat from the turbine has someplace to go. That puts the maximum out put to 970 watts (850 + 120 savings from not having to run a sieve). You could then run that water to an electrilizer to get oxygen and hydrogen and produce even more power :)

Fluids out in the wild in ONI don't really have pressure, so there isn't really a self-consistent way to do this. You'd always have some trick to create a loop to break thermodynamics. Thematically, the thermoregulator and thermo aquatuner presumably have something like this inside them already.

@@adtp-adogthepro6751 There's just no way without rewriting the entire game's code to be more efficient, probably requiring porting it over to an engine other than Unity. Even as it stands, the gas model is dramatically oversimplified even on the normal high speed and sometimes results in absurd outcomes on super speed. Plus, once you get into pressure, now you probably want to get into equilibrium between a liquid and its vapor, which probably means you need to get into multiple types of fluid per tile (since a pool of water is in equilibrium both with its vapor and with the *other* vapor above it), and now you've multiplied the time to run the fluid simulation by a factor of at least 2. This would render a base like Brothgar's Ultimate Automation Challenge completely unplayable.

@@adtp-adogthepro6751 1. Higher capacity pipes would be cool, I agree with you there. But you probably would just use them with special pumps that can move bigger packets or something like that. There wouldn't really be pressure per se anywhere. 2. You were talking about heat and pressure right from the start. What are you actually suggesting if you're talking about removing the heating element from pressure? 3. It's not about the particular base that would break, it's about the scale of the bases that wouldn't be able to run anymore. I just used the Ultimate Automation Challenge as an example of a base that's already a bit laggy but playable. Grind This Game has some better examples of prohibitively laggy bases in recent versions of ONI.

@rocksfire43905 жыл бұрын
just suck all the gas out with a pump first (make sure you don't completely uncover your volcano) once all the gas is out dump your phosphorous material in using any method you like. if you already uncovered your volcano, it would be best to just cage the volcano in and let it over produce liquid, once it's blocked itself you can start to cool the liquid down until it turns into a solid thus covering it up again (blocking the volcano). then you can do what i said above. you can cover up your volcano (like i said above) wall in EVERYTHING then seal off the room from the outside, with everything covered in a solid all gases are destroyed. now make sure you have a water lock and then you can just start clearing out the area from the water lock area. every tile will be a vacuum, quite honestly i think this is the fastest way as it doesn't involve any pumps or pipes or wires, it's just dupes building walls and then breaking them down after all tiles have been filled in and you have your water lock setup.
