The watering system for my flowers is an advanced version of flotcher that I made some time ago. Very simple Arduino-based project but very effective and human-free - that's what I like. If I can create stuff that will do boring stuff instead of me that's always cool. And I will not disturb those birds while watering my tomatoes on the balcony. Just a few components, 2 hours and this project is ready, not a lot of work but a lot of satisfaction :) Let me know what you think about this project, and don't forget to subscribe, birds already did that!
Code, files: github.com/NikodemBartnik/Sma...
Here you can find links to all of the components that we need to make this project:

Cool idea. I like it a lot. For me, I'd implement two additions: 1. Have a solar cell constantly charging the lead acid battery. They like to be at high charge at all times, and this removes the need for manual charging. 2. Use water from a water butt which is old rainwater. I'm trying to design a watering software to implement in future. I'm trying to make it as water efficient as possible. I'm thinking something like: intPumpTime = 5 1. Wait 120 minutes 2. Check water level. - If too low, Increase intPumpTime by 1. pump for intPumpTime. Wait 10 minutes. Goto step 2 again. - If too high, reduce intPumpTime by 1. Goto step 1 again. - If within acceptable range, goto step 1 again. I'm thinking something like this would adapt to pump the ideal amount of water based on previous results. And an important aspect not to forget is to give the water time to absorb into the soil before a recheck. If you just pump until the level is met, you could have one side of the flowerbed bogged out, and the other dry as a bone still.

that moisture sensor is great for testing, but short lived in actual use and it will poison your plants with copper oxide (copper and plants do not get along) a better choice would be the capacitive water sensors, they work even when fully sealed

FIVE STARS! God bless Poland! Better and better! Awesome images and great and PERFECT tutorial. A pedagogical achievement as an awesome script. I do love those close details. They're not only very clear but as far as I know you're the first youtuber around to relieve viewers' eye strain that way. Thank you so much Nikodem. You live in a cool environment indeed. That's likely inspiring your ideas ;). Mother Nature thanks you for improving your environment for sure.

I noticed an almost quantum leap in your last scripts, this one as a matter of fact. Did you take advantage of someone's really good advice or likely, yourself improved the form of your posts in order to make them better and original as well? The montage is somewhat professional and require time I guess.

I know this video is from 5 years ago, but there's a change that I would make. Those 2-prong moisture sensors become corroded after a fairly short time. You can now get capacitive ones which do not expose any metal to the soil so they last a lot longer.

Just one problem. I've heard that those moisture sensors oxidize and no longer give accurate readings. Plus, I've tried them and there was a lot of noise. I had to use a 100 readings mean to stabilize it, and then it was very sensitive to changes in position (just tapping it would change the readings) and drifted off rapidly. Maybe my sensor was faulty? I'll have to try it again with another one.
@nikodembartnik
@nikodembartnik 6 жыл бұрын
I don’t faced the oxidation problem with my sensor so far and I used something exactly the same in my flotcher project also without any problems. It’s true that on different depths this sensor gives different measurements, that’s normal, it’s more wet down in ground then closer to the surface. I didn’t noticed drifting but just in case I implemented in my program simple solution that reads 10 reading with 10 seconds delay between each to make sure that plant really needs water and that it is not an error of sensor. Try different sensor maybe this one was faulty as you said. Thanks for comment!

yes this kind of moisture sensor suck at all because they are just pcb put into moist ground and the metal part dissolve. see the andreas comparison kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5XQe6ykmKmprZI

You should activate the sensor just 1 second when taking the measurment (with an output digital pin). If you don't do that electricity will be flowing and oxidizing your sensor 24/7 and it will just last for a couple of weeks. Activating the sensor just few seconds per day will prevent that, of course it will ozidize anyway but it will take much longer.

if i want to grow 2 differents plants of course the requirements for both plants are different, so my question is, can i control 1 water pump for both plants? let say at certain time plant 1 need to be watered than plant 2, so the pump will water only plant 1 but for plant 2 not.
