I've only used the jaw jackers and seem to work well with either rod for me spinning or bait caster. I know both devices work very well.

I use a spool of fishing line and a 4 foot willow branch, hand jigging all the way. Anything below 10-15 feet the percentage of live release disappears.

Been using the jawjacker for at least 15 years. Never broken anything on 6 of them. Also, exclusively use spincast setups. Not sure the advantage with baitcast. Never had an issue hooking up.

I have the original "Slammer tip ups" and my hook set is 90+%, but my Jaw Jackers have a 50% hook set. My buddy has same 50% hook set with his Jaw Jackers. I don't know why the Jaw Jackers miss so many hook sets. Its very frustrating. JJs are very portable & lightweight, but I'll be using my old wood Slammers more this NY & MA season because they work.
@Josh-ye2kw6 жыл бұрын
lol if youre missing hooksets in the jaw jacker its because your tension isn't set correctly. ive lost 1 fish in the 2 years ive used the jaw jacker
@davidschwartz23986 жыл бұрын
@@Josh-ye2kw 1 lost fish in 2 years is amazing. My tension is set where the 2 inch minnow sometimes sets the JJ off. I'm thinking that you set the tension light too?
@Josh-ye2kw6 жыл бұрын
@@davidschwartz2398 tension is usually set light but im fishing for perch mostly. The one time i did use it for walleye/pike is when i missed but caught over 30 fish that weekend. The miss didnt set my jacker off and i had checked the sucker minnow about 10 mins before we decided to head in. Minnow was gone, jacker was still cocked.

I love mn but we are strict on our laws. No umbrella rigs with more than one hook I believe one line in open water two through the ice not trot lines or unattended lines no cast nets until recently by special permit, but I still love it here
@ryanwilson59367 жыл бұрын
Nate Murphy I've never been to MN but I am an avid advocate for nature. Don't worry, I'm not a peta nutjob! I absolutely love fishing and shooting delicious animals :). However, from the amount of attention that I understand MN's lakes are famous for, imagine if everyone were allowed to do the things your not allowed to do. Most fisherman tend to be rather greedy. Give them an inch and they take a mile. I live in Michigan. We are allowed 3 lines/6 hook in any combination. (Crawler harness counts as 1 hook but an umbrella rig with 6 hooks would be your hook limit). When I ice fish with tip-ups, I usually set out 2 and then jig with my rod. So I have my 3 line max but if I wanted to I could tie on a fly above my jig for 4 hooks. But if I want to jig with 2 rods, I'd have to pull one of my tip-ups. (I almost always fish alone). I'm pretty sure a 2-treble quick strike rig counts as 2 hooks but I don't QS rigs anyways so I don't worry about it. You see a lot of "dads" who bring their kids with them so they can set like 6-7 tip-ups. Nice pike are difficult to catch around me.

Nate Murphy Yeah, I love it here, too. But I think our DNR has a god complex and is purposefully deaf to public opinion. One of my main complaints is the ridiculous one rod rule in open water. Let a guy or gal float a bobber and do some casting, too. What’s the real harm to the fishery? Occasionally gut hook a little sunnie you didn’t want to keep? Did you know that ALL the fish die, walleyes, northerns, crappies, etc., they catch in gillnets for their lake surveys? Tens of thousand of gamefish each year killed by the DNR. Ludicrous.
@patrickempey35847 жыл бұрын
The one line rule is asinine. We can have 3 here in Wisconsin. That's the way it should be everywhere.
@danielholtxxl49367 жыл бұрын
Patrick Empey Just to clarify, I think you can have three ice fishing but only two open water. We can have two ice fishing (which I’m actually ok with) but only one on open water - and that is asinine, yes.

I've been using my home made hook setting setup for 3.5 years... same rods... I use graphite rods personally.. most will say to use fiberglass rods... I've broke a few glass rods in the beginning... decided to "sacrifice" my #13FISHING wicked ice combos to see how they held up, I have yet to break it and they've caught tons of fish!! My kids love em, they have their place and time of use for myself as well... it is something else to watch it get set off and the rod sets and then just dives deeper! I use them normally to locate fish, but sometimes, especially on light biters that bite then spit the hook on a slip bobber, it gets em before they know it! I have fished with people with jaw jackers and auto fishermans... I'm so glad my setups are pretty much unbreakable and more compact! Plus I've seen more missed fish on those setups than compared to mine.. idk why it is that way, but I've gotten people stumped on why it works better at times.. tight lines

@spennymac50217 жыл бұрын
Mica Bailey best set up for a bait caster ice rod has to be on the haat rod website. Order online. Only place I have seen. Then go hit up a local cabelas or bass pro and find a smaller reel that feels good on the rod and boom. Hooking up with big fish. Probably cost around 200$ but the quality set up should last a lifetime.
