I was designing my own demand controlled ventilation system a year ago. About time a company makes one for residential use.

Wow this is a game changer. This can make dumb devices smart. So in my instance I have a whole house dehumidifier with always on fresh air intake. We have always on bath fans with boost. It sounds like with these I could place the sensors and program the fresh air side of things to come on only when CO2 or VOC levels get high. While the bath fans and dehumidifier blower are not big energy users, my cooling/heating loads are made up by 1/4 of make up air. I hope the sensors aremt crazy expensive.

They are as affordable as they look, AV- no tricks.
@av12042 жыл бұрын
@@HomePerformance I didnt realize these were already out. The price is much better than I would have thought.
@timdestasiohvac2 жыл бұрын
Yeah its better not to use exhaust fans to ventilate. Unless its by means of an erv or interlocked with fresh air to maintain neutral or positive building pressure.
@av12042 жыл бұрын
@@timdestasiohvac yes we already have that. Dehumidifier runs at the same time as bath fans.

I love the concept of Broan's Overture. I believe a demand controlled ventilation system is the only way to efficiently and accurately control indoor air quality. Panasonic is promoting a DCV system with the Swidget, however, I question the accuracy of their sensors, due to the limited size and configuration of the inserts. Haven IAQ also has a whole house DCV device that monitors the return air in the air handling unit. With that system, it will be interesting to see what affect the dilution of pollutants in the return duct system has on the accuracy of the controller. I would think that the mixing of poor air from areas of the building with air from rooms containing good air would affect the demand for a response.
@HomePerformance2 жыл бұрын
Yes, placement of the sensors should be specific to the home, I agree. Just one in the return is better than none, but it’s a far cry from room to room control.

As cool as this is. I’ve been waiting for this system to evolve, grow, or improve since it was first “soft” launched. It’s “ok” but has a lot of room for improvement. Both CERV2 and Zhender have superior systems with way more control and functionality. That being said, overture is an affordable option by comparison and I hope to see this system evolve.

This is great. I have been doing some of this with my Awair sensors but that has limited functionality for automation.

For the "smart plugs" that you show, those are just controlling an on/off state for the appliance or is it actually communicating more intelligently with the devices that are compatible?
@aaronmay233 Жыл бұрын
I would like to know the same thing. I just installed a broan erv in my home. It would make sense for this to work directly with the app not needing a plug.

What about if you have boost buttons in the bathroom for humidity control? Wouldn't the ERV system potentially be turned off?
@joeshmoe78998 ай бұрын
The other option is diy arduino/raspberry pi system. But, that takes time and interest in coding. A fun game, that puts control to another level. Extra points for employing AI.

they have ventilation systems here with the sensors. but i am a little bit skeptical of it for an average home. i would rather spend a bit more to vent it asap rather than let it build up before venting. is the cost and complexity worth it.
@andreycham47972 жыл бұрын
I believe you should be able to set your fans at minimum speed , if you want it and they would speed up only when sensors detect much more pollution

Nice product, I was already playing with IFTTT to turn off ERV when certain conditions apply... Look into Tadiran - Airow a new very low level of hydrogen peroxide air purifier that creates no ions, ozone or voc and is field tested. I know you are against those but this technology looks promissing...

Please don’t let anything get added to your air- it creates chemical reactions. They will freely admit this. No one has researched what byproducts will be created in your home, because there’s no way to predict- your face lotion, your dog’s food brand, etc, etc- totally unique combination of chemicals present.
@ecospider52 жыл бұрын
I really don’t see the point of these devices. A hepa air filter in your furnace air system removes viruses and all the other stuff you don’t want in your air. And it does it without causing unknown chemical reactions in your house. Is your going to pay someone to install something in your ducts have them install a space for a 4” filter. Then use hepa filters.
@aaronmay233 Жыл бұрын
Hepa filters don’t control humidity or bring fresh air in to remove CO2. Also Your furnace has to run constantly to remove viruses
