I've owned both of these, the exact same Sinn and the matte blue Squale. Very different, the Sinn is highly polished and leans to the dressy side where the 1521 has more of a tool look. I sold the Sinn and kept the Squale even though it's less versatile. It's a great Summer watch.

Great comparison review! Thanks to Mr. "G" too. Like Oris or Ball or TAG, Sinn and Squale suffer from not being R/O/B (Rolex/Omega/Breitling) Euro or Swiss (Swissy?, Swiss-ish) enough. They make nice enough designs and are less dear than R.O.B., but seem, to me, overpriced. Just my .02 worth! Must be the Scotsman in me. I do find the Sinn quite handsome.
@PerthWAtch
@PerthWAtch 6 жыл бұрын
I think for quality the Sinn is pretty fair in comparison with Omega & Breitling. Sure it may not be 100% there but it's around 90% IMO for much less than 90% of price. TAG... well I think their quality is fair but they suffer from various other issues, including campy marketing, and designs which can be somewhat average...

I don't know what Sinn did to that Sellita SW 220-1 but my is getting -1/2 seconds per day, and is kicking the tar out of my Omega SMP.

If not chronometer, the performance may still vary. My SKX007 is one of the most accurate on the wrist at +1spd but put it on winder or just leave on table in various positions and it goes further off. Not so with proper chronometer grade watches given the testing they go through.
@JonJonFtheW
@JonJonFtheW 6 жыл бұрын
I agree. My 104 averages at +2.5 s/day, and I'm very impressed that it is so close to chronometer performance. I think +5 might be an outlier.

Mine's crazy accurate, almost quartz accurate. I've averaged 0.2 SPD from 16 Nov to 21 Dec wearing it daily ( about +8 seconds over that entire time). However once power reserve starts dipping below 50% it tends to run about +5 SPD, but I barely ever let it run down that much.

Great review. I know the 1521 specs-wise is larger but it looks smaller in many shots here especially the opening shot with both cases laying on edge crown side up. I wonder if you remember which of these 2 looked smaller on wrist?
@PerthWAtch

Hey...thanks. Do you know if that 1521 was from Page and Cooper? I ask because they have a special blast finish (Satinato) that is a finer blast finish than the Squale Opaco super matte.

I'd argue that the design and quality should be neck and neck, but versatility would go more heavily in Sinn's favor. I didn't truly "get" Sinn's reputation until I looked at what the 556A is capable of. Squale versus Sinn boils down to specialization versus versatility.

Well the Squale may have an ETA movement but Sinn is known to exclusively use "TOP" gerade movements in their watches. I am not sure if this can be said in case of Squale. I would have liked to see this considered since it explains the higher price just that bit better ;-)
@PerthWAtch
@PerthWAtch 4 жыл бұрын
Not enough of a justification of the price difference in and of itself, but it would contribute. I would like to see evidence that Sinn uses TOP grade movements. Cheers ;)

@@PerthWAtch There s no statement from Sinn in any catalog or on the Website. But they do confirm that if asked via customer support form. Yes of course this does just contribute to the whole picture... As does that the SW 220 is equivalent to the ETA 2836 (Day of the Week) and not just the 2824.... So should Squale use a 2824 elabore gerade(wich seems likely)... We would look a quite an upgrade with a top gerade 2836 equivalent Sellita SW 220 :)

I veiwed a square 1521 high polish in azure blue a beautiful looking watch at first, but for me unfortunately there was a few issues that broke the deal, a 500 meter watch with printed lume that doesn't last very long, a perculiler bezel action a standard ETA 2824 on a leather or rubber strap and for the asking price didn't seem good value to me.
@PerthWAtch

Hi there just one more point on the 1521, it really is a missed opportunity if they where to spend time refining the watch ie. the bezel, frame the indesies and fill with lume, use a chronometer grade ETA and yes it would cost more but the watch would stand on its own buy the favourable reviews.It just feels like a watch made in china to make as much profit as possible.

This comment has nothing to do with the video but... I have a wrist that is 50-52mm in height and I’ve been eyeing a Seiko Tuna which is 48mm in height ... Would it work on my wrist? (I have many watches that are 50mm in height and they fit well although they do have long lugs with a 42mm diameter)
@PerthWAtch
@PerthWAtch 6 жыл бұрын
Hmmm I think that would be pushing it because it's a lugless 48mm design right? 50mm is about the tasteful limit for my wrist and I think mine might be slightly wider than yours too. But in the end nothing beats trying it on in person and seeing how it goes.

I've personally never included "resale" in the definition of value proposition, although it is a good point. Great video! I'm surprised to see that you gave the same score for the movements even tough you state that "ETA is a little bit better on the regulation and reputation". Moreover, many watchmakers will tell you that with Sellita corners have been cut when compared to ETA... I'm not saying that Sellita is a bad movement, but I would say that the consensus is that ETA is a better movement.
@PerthWAtch
@PerthWAtch 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It's a close one... on another day I would've given the ETA a higher mark. It's controversial... if you read around there are plenty of views that Sellita is just as good and ETA is inflated in price... but there are also views that express what you have.

@@PerthWAtch I agree that there is controversy! It's just that I have spoken to a few watchmakers that are tired of replacing ratchet wheels in early SW 200 movements. The ratchet wheel is one of the few differences between ETA and SW (the others being an extra jewel in the SW and I believe a slightly difference in one of the bridges). If I'm not mistaken the SW 200-1 fixed the ratchet wheel problem though. As for me, personally I have only had good experiences with the SW but still prefer the tried ETA in my watches :)

Perth WAtch not sure why you would blatantly copy someone else’s video all the way down to the rating categories? No shame in your game I guess. In pretty much any other industry you would find yourself in court for copyright infringement. Copying someone else’s material is lazy and says quite a lot about you IMO. Best of luck with your channel. I won’t be a subscriber.

How very astute of you! ;) It so happens I wrote to TGV informing him that I'm adapting his format for my channel. Cheers mate!

If you got his approval, It might've been a good idea to preface that at the beginning of the show. Since there are no acknowledgments, it comes off as your own design.

Precisely what I did mate, first 2-3 vids of this. You might notice this channel has been going since 2016, I ain't gonna keep saying it... and not as if 99% people don't already know it's an adaptation.

This brings up an age old debate of what is an homage and at what level. Seiko, Steinhart, or Invicta. It's harder to make up an original, most would agree.

Totally agree that it would be harder to make a *good* original watch... what with the risk of investment into the manufacturing process and all. It is however very easy to come up with an original list of criteria/points/weightings, what have you. I just chose to go by the idea of "if it ain't broke don't fix it" in this case...
