I love automatic water changes, keep’s phosphates and nitrates low and keeps my gfo from being exhausted quickly

Do you have any type of siphon break either at the sump side thats pulling salt out or at the salt container pulling salt into the tank? I'm concerned about a potential bi-directional siphon should the power fail. If so how do you handle that?

I believe the GHL freestanding doser can also be monitored remotely.

If you do the water changes as described in the video, is that the only water change that is done - or is there a 20% water change also done (monthly?) that includes siphoning the sand. I like your method, my fear is that the sand will never be cleaned if the water is just cycling in and out automatically.

Instead of a water leveling, why not just have a bulkhead at the max desired level in the sump and then just have it go to a drain? Or does that have the chance of messing up the salinity?
@Saltwateraquariumdotcom5 жыл бұрын
Some version of that is possible.

With this kind of system would you need to dose trace elements?
@jamesparrott20735 жыл бұрын
No
@Saltwateraquariumdotcom5 жыл бұрын
It depends on how much of what your tank is consuming, but theoretically you should be able to do enough of a daily water change to replace the trace assuming your source saltwater has what your tank needs in it.

Curious your thoughts on having the Salt_Out from the DT AWC dump into a quarantine tank and then a bulk head fitting letting water drain as it reaches that level. With the option to divert water directly to the drain if medications were being used in the QT?

How have you found the long term reliability of the DOS pump to be?

What if you have Neptune ATK how do I program that off while water change is happening
@alexlevy3 жыл бұрын
you shouldn't have to as the water level in your tank never changes. It shouldn't impact your ATK at all.

Hey Mark, what has been the most head pressure that you have tried with the DOS. I'm about to start a new tank and I have 18ft vertical head pressure and 21 horizontal run to get to where I want to put the water changing station. Do you think the DOS can handle this?

Any issues with salt creep clogging the DOS lines over time?

Nick B no salt creep issues as water gets moved through the lines several times during the day

Hi Mark, What kind of head pressure do the Dos pumps provide? My mixing station is in my garage, and I’d need to run the line through my attic and down to my tank...any suggestions are greatly appreciated...

How would you handle a ATO at the same time if you arent using an Apex, just so you dont dump fresh water in when the levels change?
@adrianr5145 жыл бұрын
neill pretorius It’s putting out what it’s putting in. Your ATO sensor should be in the return side of the sump. There shouldn’t be a change because of the simultaneous in and out.
@Starganderfish5 жыл бұрын
In that case the AutoAqua Smart AWC is superior. It does water changes AND auto top off with the one setup. The system is automated and integrated so it deactivates the ATO system while the water change takes place and reactivates it once the change is done. AFAIK for the Neptune you’d need TWO of the DOS systems and probably have to program the system to deactivate the ATO one while the AWC one is running. Alternatively I think Neptune also have an ATO system as an additional add-on, but again it’s two seperate pieces of kit AutoAqua is pretty unique in combining water changes and top off in the one system and not requiring additional hardware.
@jaksmith64655 жыл бұрын
but how does that interact with an Auto Top off? wouldnt the lower water level trigger your auto top off?
@joshs_random_location5 жыл бұрын
Being new I think I'd rather the interaction with the tank setup by doing water changes myself 👍🐠🇦🇺
@Saltwateraquariumdotcom5 жыл бұрын
Sure, that's great for a while but instead of spending time doing water changes you can spend time doing fun things with your tank like watching you fish, etc.
