If you want to improve your pickleball game and start beating better players, there are a few key things you need to focus on. First, dinking is an essential skill. By keeping the ball low over the net, you can force your opponent to make mistakes. Second, speedups: by increasing the pace of your shots, you can take your opponent by surprise and open up the court. Finally, strategy and court positioning: By thinking one or two steps ahead, you can position yourself perfectly to win rallies. If you can master these three elements, you'll be well on your way to becoming a pickleball player!

I was trying to explain to someone the other day about when and how far to move forward on a drop, and I couldn't really come up with a good explanation. Your explanation from 1:55 to 2:15 is fantastic. Thanks. Also, the stuff about changing up your game, how and when, etc., was great. One of the best Pickleball instructional vids I've seen.

Footwork, yeah, that's a huge tip. I play with a lot of older people, anb they either don't have any so don't move much, or they move and risk falling. I can see that I need to really think about my footwork and less about they other players like you mentioned. Thanks Connor!

I really like the way you explain the game. It's hard for me to spot nvz errors during play. How do you spot their foot faults when they're slamming against you? I would love a video on this, as it's hard to spot them during actual play. I can see them so often when others are playing and nobody calls them.

Yeah man, ready position- seems so easy, but if I were to record myself playing I'd probably be pretty pissed at my lazy technique. And coming from a tennis background, I've found that I squat a bit when in my ready position, rather than standing taller and being able to hit downward. Appreciate your good work.

How far to move forward is a big one for me that is a more recent realization. I thought it was always about getting to the net no matter the quality of my shot. Quickly realized running straight into a big overhead smash doesn't make much sense. It is important to get to the kitchen line, but IMO equally as important to find the right shot to do so and that may take several attempts and some defense to get there.

I like the recommendation of needing to take a step back from the NVZ line. For some reason, I thought I shouldn't give up ground. Watching the top players, I see they take a step back all the time. In regards to hitting return while moving forward, do you recommend hitting the ball on the move instead of being set?
@ilexevergreen5405
@ilexevergreen5405 Жыл бұрын
I like hitting returns on the move if they're shallow since you get to do both at once (hit the return & get to NVZ). Just have to practice lightning up if you tend to hit hard. It's also more fun to hit on the move :)

So I can’t tell if I’m ambidextrous with my paddle or if I’m bad with both sides, because both seem equal. I write left handed, but swing a bat right handed.

I got the dink pad for Christmas, do I have to stand 7 feet in front of the pad to practice?
@EnhancePickleball
@EnhancePickleball Жыл бұрын
Since the Kitchen Is 7 Feet away from the net, that this is a realistic distance to stand for most volley and dinking drills. Occasionally you can stand closer to the wall so that you can increase the tempo and make things harder on yourself when doing volleys.

I agree with the ready position thing but I think this tip is incorrectly applied to pickleball, my point is that most of the hard speedups and shots you need to have your paddle there for are usually the low shots at your mid section so if you keep your paddle up at your chest or even at your face like some people will tell you to you end up actually having to move further to get the hard shots, me personally I like to keep the highest part of my paddle around my sternum while maintaining a wide stance with bent knees so my paddle ends up being just higher than the net if I'm at the kitchen line.

If doesn't make sense to me to play up at the line. I hate playing that close. I play back a few steps and find it way easier. Any ideas?
@jkeiffer
@jkeiffer Жыл бұрын
Hmm... I'd have to guess here. I'd say you have to ask yourself why you hate it and it doesn't make sense to you. Is it a little fear of the other players or their pace? If you are far more comfortable a little back from the NVZ and you don't think it causes you problems when you play, then don't worry about it. If you play for fun only, than just have fun. If you want to improve, you have to look closer and ask yourself questions about what you do and why. I find that a lower level open play, most people can't dink well and that rallys don't last very long. In that situation it probably makes sense to be where you are. If that's not your situation, film yourself playing and think about what you see and what you do. Don't know if that will help.
@asugarholicslife
@asugarholicslife Жыл бұрын
@@jkeiffer I think the fear of the pace and my reaction time would probably be the main thing. I just find it easier to come forward when I need to instead of having to get everything in the air before it gets behind me. Thank you for your insight! I will record myself playing next time. And I do play for fun but would love to get better to try to do local tournaments.
@jkeiffer
@jkeiffer Жыл бұрын
@@asugarholicslife Get used to conquering your fear. Don't forget the closer you are to the NVZ the more the other team has to think about you and their shots. Toe the line and their game has to improve too. Practice blocking with your backhand since it gives you the most coverage. Good luck!

Just played pickleball for the first time last night Biggest issue so far is hitting it way too soft while attempting too much spin as if I’m playing ping pong so it goes I to the net if I’m far away from the kitchen on my side Have to remember it’s not the same as ping pong
