You know, I just thought about something. In Fallout 4, since you're playing as the Sole Survivor, reading about a lot of these insidious and dark projects that went on and such hit much closer to home; these were projects going on _in your lifetime_ , maybe even on people you _knew_ or were _related_ to.

Its a shame they didn't have player characters react to reading these logs. These should be super impactful to the survivor , seeing just how cruel and twisted their nation and these companies really were. Even a simple line of dialogue like "I can't believe they did this.." would've been so impactful.

Like, if you going to put a non-agressive chinese in a fallout game is kinda of obligatory that the conversation with that npc can be very deep. Instead you can only shout something like "Die communist pig" or help the guy out and that's it. How someone thought that was enough for a frachise like fallout and for a game where, for your character, the war between the U.S and China was a very recent memory and if your character is male your character not only remembers the war but also fought in that war?

When the main plot of your game is that you were alive BEFORE the bombs dropped, you'd think it'd be pretty obvious to record reactions to this kinda stuff. It made since in every other game to have no reaction but our character has absolutely no reaction at all to discovering the shit his country is doing that would have downright effected the life of his wife and son.

Roger Maxson and the Mariposa garrison that would later become the BoS executed the research team at Mariposa after they discovered they had been experimenting on criminals, PoW and US citizens for the FEV: essentially, all those who didn't have their brains scooped out for the RB project. What's more, the FEV's existence was leaked to the public as early as February 2077, to the world's outrage. This is one of the more disturbing pre-war facilities in the games. Probably the only worse place I can think of is Big MT, where they did all manner of research and experimentation to make weapons and technology for the war effort. Including experimenting on Chinese prisoners of war and unwitting US Citizens in cities around the country. They also deliberately made some of the dangerous creatures of the Mohave, like Nightstalkers and Cazadors. Pre War America was a very messed up place, since Fallout is meant to be an exaggerated example of the worst parts of humanity, corporate greed, greed in general and the military industrial complex throwing the world into a war with no winners. A couple of things.. I don't think the doors in the incineration room were the incinerators. They look more like morgue storage drawers. I theorized that they stored the bodies of the test subjects until they had a bunch of them, then fired up the incinerator at the far end of the room to get rid of them. That way they didn't have to have it running constantly. One possibility about the possible post war inclusions of deathclaws, mutants and ghouls is that while the Mechanist robobrains were out and about they were bringing back test samples to act as replacements. Common robots were easy enough for the Mechanist to make, but there were only so many robobrains to go around. A lot of them are used in the command center. And eventually some of the ones sent out to the Commonwealth would go missing, destroyed or just never returning. Jezebel was captured by the Rust Devils. So, it's possible that either the Mechanist told the robobrains to bring back non-human test subject to see if they could use them to make new robobrains. Or the facility or robobrains themselves was bringing them back after a general order to produce more robots, without the Mechanist's direct order. It's equally likely that they are relics of pre-war times though. After all, several terminals mentioned concern about the supply or prisoners not keeping up with demand. It's possible they requisitioned test subjects from other military experiments to see if some of their work could be re-purposed for robobrains. It is also possible that the ghouls in the tank were mean to represent preserved human bodies. The game doesn't have an intermediate death state model after all. It's either a fresh corpse or a skeleton. Ghouls are the closest thing to a partially decayed or preserved body. That seems least likely though. The facility has no reason to want to keep bodies intact. They just wanted the brains.
@AkaRedFallen7 жыл бұрын
Gotta agree here. odds are the Super mutant brain may have been brought back from the outside by Mechanist's robots to make more robo-brains. Especially after she'd been finding some errors in the behaviors of the Robobrains, and might have thought more fresh brains would be the fix she needed. Makes sense to me anyway.

That is what makes the most sense to me as well. The amount of brains that they have there would have been depleted due to the long duration they spent in the jars, so the Mechanist would have had to look for other sources. Since the Mechanist wants to preserve human life and help humans, it is only natural that they would look for a source for new brains from species no longer considered human, or were not human to start with ( such as the Deathclaw ). Using what knowledge was there at the lab they could then use those new brains to build up the supply that they had and produce more Robobrains. That could also be one of the reasons why they came to the conclusion that killing humans was helping them, since there are a few brains that are damaged, such as Super Mutants and Feral Ghouls. The possibility of a damaged brain could also explain the conclusion that was reached if you know the story of "Frankenstein" where Dr. Frankenstein took a criminally insane brain and placed it in his creation, it then went on to kill a young girl thinking that since she was pretty that she would float like the flowers that she tossed in the water, not knowing that she could not swim and would then drown.

You pretty much just repeated what I just said in your own words aside from the memory wipe not being 100%. The FEV was a military program before the war and as for the helmet on it it might be because the heads are randomly generated and they are different for each game, for example I dont remember the head having a helmet so I guess Bethesda was lazy and just made the super mutant heads random

I tend to clear a location and extract the loot, but then watch the Oxhorn video to see what i overlooked about the place, as well as checking the wiki to make sure I am not leaving a bobblehead behind etc. There is always so much I miss about the back story, usually because I am not patient enough to properly read terminals. I missed that deathclaw xray too. I have Ada as a companion now. A missile launcher and gatling laser, combined with Mr Handy thruster and a hacking module makes her the most useful companion so far. Apart from constantly getting into my sighted line of fire like the rest of the companions do.

This was possibly the darkest part of the game, meaning it actually made me physically ill. Something else incredibly dark is the whole ghoul forced exodus from Diamond city that killed hundreds. Everyone knows it happened but either pretends not to know about it or is totes okay with outcasting their own citizens> How Nick can live there and not feel morally repulsed I don't know.

At Sunshine Tidings Co. there's a billboard that says "SAVE THE ROBOTS!" Maybe the protectrons rebelled because there was an organization that helped free robots from slavery, similar to the railroad.

Oxhorn! I do like all these lore videos, but it's like you forget what brought you to some of these places. This facility, for example, you (and we all that have played this quest line) were guided here to hunt down the Mechanist. It's hard to believe that in 200 yrs. the Mechanist, or anyone who may have come before didn't mess with any thing just for lark, in may freaking out any following visitors.

at 32:00 the reason it was such an exciting success was that the personality (and I guess, in the world of Fallout Robobrain research, the brain itself) had no trouble accepting that it was without a body.
@damionmcquaker48987 жыл бұрын
it is possible the super mutant was collected from post war boston by the mechanists robo brains after the facility was re opened. alot of what happened after the mechanist found the location and they appear in the game is left unexplored.
@HarmonicaPresents6 жыл бұрын
Maybe those other experiments, with the Deathclaw diagrams and Mutant heads and such, may have been post-war editions, maybe by the Robobrains or the Mechanist or something. The labs could be pretty useful after all.

You know the most terrible about all this? In the perspective of the Sole Survivor, this isn't just some messed up crap that happened 200 years ago, he/she WAS THERE personally when all of this happen! And since Nate (Male SS) was himself in the US Military, he must have either knew about or even been involved in stuff like this, or is forced to confront the fact that the government he fought for was a twisted perversion of the American ideal. While Nora (Female SS) must be wondering in the back of her head just exactly what kind of person her husband REALLY was, and ask herself the uncomfortable question of if her knew about things like this that was happening at the time.

Thats a seriously scary type of body-horror. To have your entire body removed, basically nothing of yourself left. No control over anything but your thoughts...

Yeah not gonna lie that part for whoever they labeled A22 sounds like Johnny 5 in a way. Humans need to adopt Optimus Primes' old saying or we will destroy ourselves. One day a robot will develop thought and ask "Why am I here?" now we can pull a Quarren and shut it off so we don't have to face the implication that we are a slave owner or we can tell it "I ask myself that too." and then try to integrate it with society as if it were a person and not a machine and therefore freed from slavery thanks to it's evolution. Treat a newly sentient machine like a child and not as if it will automatically think ill of of for building it to do stuff we couldn't and once it is ready let it choose it's own lot in life.

super mutants existed before the war the were supposed to be super soldiers so we're deathclaws while ghouls were just after the bombs dropped so the ghouls make no sense

I always thought that when I created a new Robo brain I was just taking them off of the shelf where they were stored. Sort of giving a reason for their sacrifice. I would of assumed on the Supper mutant and Stag a Returning robo brain put them their as trophies for the Mechanist...somone had to assist in manufacturing new nightmares, I imagine.
@MsMoonDragoon7 жыл бұрын
The super mutant head was in there simply because bethesda got one code mixed up. Inside that jar was supposed to be a rotted brain, but they goofed and accedently programmed the super mutants head to spawn in there
