Fantastic information. Especially on the limitations of soldered connections. A high quality crimped connection is almost always superior. There's a reason that manufacturers use crimps when terminating almost every wire in the car.

When soldering, flux paste is a god send. Even with internal flux solder it may not be enough to wick away contaminents when soldering. It will also reduce the heat time needed to solder which causes insulator melting that you dont want. And with the flux paste, youll get a better complete solder flow thru the strands of the splice or repair joint. Sealed heat shrink is key to reduce or eleminate corrosion of the joint from the elements. Even in the inclosed cabin of the vehicle, moisture can be present. With Spills or water intrusion, that moisture stays longer than you realize and goes everywhere. Think of it as the humidity factor for the atmosphere of the vehicle cabin. It can stay around for months, stagnent smell or mold smell are signs of moisture retention in the vehicle.

After you solder a connection, what’s wrong with using heat shrink on those as long as you put the heat shrink on before you solder the connection what’s wrong with that connection?😮
