GM had the choice of adding it to the Chevy stable when Pontiac was shut down. Their fear was they would lose Corvette or Camaro sales. That's probably why GM/Pontiac never really pushed the car in the first place. Nothing against Miata enthusiasts, but I've never felt comfortable in a Maita. The early models didn't have sure footing and riding passenger I was starting to look over the windscreen (I'm 5'10" tall). But I fit in a Solstice and it's solid on the road. And although it has less ability to personalize than a Miata (including what it takes to make it track legal), I was able to make my GXP what I wanted.

@maryjanebrummettyahoo.comg3187 Can’t afford it right now. We recently bought 1/4 of a Mtn and had a custom built house built into the side of our part of the Mtn here in north central WA state. When I was in my 20s I did own a Mustang convertible with the 5.0L V8 and a 6spd transmission. I also owned a Miata. When I was 18 (in 83), I bought a 78 Red Bird, (it was a limited edition. Firebird body and a Corvette pwr train). Pontiac made only 1,500. That was 1 fast car !
@hallmanlabs5968
@hallmanlabs5968 6 ай бұрын
I have a tuned and upgraded GXP, the main thing that hinders these cars in the 1/4 is the gearing of the transmission. With a different gearing, it probably could have done 13s with just a tune. With the stock transmission, you'll need a lot of power (probably ~400) to hit the 12s.

Very nice...I just bought a very nice 2007 Red Solstice GXP with a Rpm Motorsports stage 2 tune...I drove 3 hours to test drive it and it pulls like crazy...I was not expecting that...the guy I bought the car from was 83 years old and when I asked him about the performance upgrade he said it seemed like a fun thing to do...lol...I contacted Rpm Motorsports and they estimate 320 RW HP...do you have the same set up?..I have had many fast cars and I estimate the car will do about a 13.5 sec quarter at about 102 MPH, that is providing I can get a decent launch. 7.2 seconds to 60 is what the base will do so something is amiss..should do a 60 ft time of under 2 seconds which is under 5 seconds from 0-60.

That sounds like a sweet car, I’m glad you’re enjoying it! I’m unfamiliar with a bone stock GXP so the mods the dealer who bought this were told it had sounded and looked plausible. But it had no traction, the horrible 0-60 time I got does not represent it or how it did from rolling pulls at all. And either way it’s age I wasn’t interested in launching it hard and braking something on a borrowed car, lol. 😂 Best of luck with yours! I’d recommend joining the forums so you can be more informed about the platform and common failure points or the best mods!

@AutomotiveAnonymous208
@AutomotiveAnonymous208 Жыл бұрын
I will say I did take it fairly easy on it, doing a single 0-60 run, and in not ideal conditions. But I was also very surprised at the poor time I got. I was told it dynod at 350WHP, but it’s a very peaky power-band, not linear at all. I’m guessing this set up sacrificed a lot of low end power for a strong 4-6k pull. Additionally, once in the power it literally blows the 295 tires loose and was not set up for the torque. I do think it could maybe do 12’s at sea level on a sticky track with a proper launch, but in my testing conditions it was more amusing than potent, lol. Thanks for watching! 🙂

@AutomotiveAnonymous208
@AutomotiveAnonymous208 Жыл бұрын
It’s not in its element. Private country road is not prepped, I didn’t do an aggressive launch or practice launching because I didn’t want to break a 17 year old car I was borrowing (lol), and even the 295’s could not keep traction (when in boost) at speeds below 60mph. Also for reference a stock one rated at mid 5’s would have been without rollout (a few 1/10th second difference), likely at sea level and better air quality conditions, and on a sticky prepped surface with many trials performed. Honestly a bone stock one probably wouldn’t do better than this one in the same conditions. It’s kind of like how a Hellcat Charger or Challenger isn’t any faster 0-60 on the street than a much less powerful scat pack or almost regular Hemi car. You can only put so much power to the pavement. I’m sorry this is a long reply. This car was very powerful, and my video did not capture that well. Thanks for watching and asking a good question! 🙂

I own a solstice and I know the market well. The best thing going for that car is the extremely low mileage. The bad thing going for that car that negates the low mileage is that it's the first year of the GXP introduction. That may not seem like such a big deal and in most cases it's actually really not that big of a deal being that there wasn't any differences in the motor or anything else really at all during it's very short-lived production run. And although it only was in production for three years, the GXP model that is, it's still Rings something to a buyer being that it is in 07. But again it's really not that big of a deal at all. The major issue having a low-mileage solstice is that the new owner will have to bear the brunt of the inevitable catastrophic water pump failure. As well as his mechanic or he himself if he does his own work will have to go through the absolute horror gut-wrenching process of flushing the coolant system. Which regardless if the water pump fails or not the first thing you should tell the buyer is to immediately have the thermostat change the coolant completely flush from the system and of course refilled. Bearing that in mind it just occurred to me that being a 2007 with only nine thousand miles the fact that it more than likely has never had its coolant flushed and refilled actually if the buyer does his research may walk away from the sale. The Dexcool antifreeze used in the solstice is probably the most acidic and damaging chemical that there is to put in to an engine. And I could say with almost a hundred percent certainty that I would be willing to bet within the first 100 to 500 miles of driving that car on a regular basis the thermostat will fail sticking open or sticking closed and of course other rubber components could fail having been eaten by the acidic Dexcool. The number one major problem with the solstice as well as its sister the sky is the coolant system as well as the water pump which is connected to the coolant system. Going through the message boards as well as the Facebook group after I bought my particular solstice I was having major regrets for not doing my due diligence about the solstice. I still regret it even though it is one of the most awesome cars I have ever owned and I have owned a lot of sports cars, I probably would not have bought the solstice unless I knew new and was proven by service records from the previous owner that the coolant system had been properly maintained and if the vehicle had more than 20,000 miles on it I would expect that it had a new water pump put in or having the entire front end of the engine open and putting in new and improved chain guides tensioner sprockets water pump thermostat and whatever else. It is not a matter of if the water pump will fail or thermostat it is most definitely a matter of when the water pump will fail. If you look at the service statistics regarding every Solstice owner that has had a problem with their water pump failing or thermostat or incessant are within the closed coolant system it is an iFit you not probably somewhere in the upper 72 75 per-cent. There was a poll taking a while ago on the solstice forum and discovered that the failure of the water pump and related parts to the system on average will fail catastrophically and possibly damaging your entire ending around the median number of 45 to 53,000 Miles. Many were failing at 25,000 miles but pretty much all of them will not make it past seventy-five to eighty thousand miles without the water pump failing. And again as much as I love my solstice I will say that I wish I just bought the Miata like I bought it right off the bat.

Heck, you can buy the Miata with motorized hardtop for under $15k is you look...with low miles too. Be patient, and don't be afraid to buy from anywhere in the USA and have it professionally inspected (around $200 - 300) and shipped to you!. Google it. I live in Oregon and bought my lovely Miata, with the EXACT options I wanted, no settling here, and shipped it to me from VA to OR and still saved thousands from buying it on the West Coast. Cars are cheaper east of the Mississippi! FACT. Such a better made car and so much more reliable. Parts in abundance and not expensive where the Solstice is just the opposite!

I know right, lol. This car hitting 7’s is like a hellcat charger on the street hitting 5-6s. It’s all wheel spin. 😝 The 295’s this had on it don’t do much to hook up roughly 400wtq when there’s only 1,400# over the rear axle. Also a stock one rated in the 5’s wouldn’t do anything less than probably 6.5-7s. Rated times don’t matter when rollout is excluded (usually .3s), it’s an abusive launch, and on a stick drag strip at a good density altitude. It’s just not real world results. Kinda crazy but I did a hellcat TRX Ram recently and even that in a 4 auto launch was 1s slower than rated. It’s sad to know the truth of what our cars run haha. Thanks for watching, and I hope my response isn’t contesting but rather informative based off of my specific experiences. 🙂

To the person who has not read through the handbook of the Pontiac Solstice it does in fact look like it has been in an accident however the reality of it is something far more interesting and unique. There's a KZbin video as a matter of fact if you want to actually see it live and in action and with a more detailed explanation. The basic gist of it is every panel on that car as well as the windows are adjustable Gap. I don't know why you would need to have that as even an option but nevertheless it is an option. I discovered this as a matter of fact when I realized that my driver side window did not go all the way into the weatherstripping and make a complete seal. I then went to KZbin as well as the handbook to look up the procedure for removing the interior door panel to gain access to the window to see if I could advise just it. What I discovered as I had said before is far more interesting. As it turns out, you can actually adjust the windows in the solstice up down left right as well as diagonal. That little tidbit of information then led me to a video pertaining to how to adjust the panel gaps on your Solstice. There's also a PDF file with detailed instructions you could find but if not it is most definitely available on the solstice forums AKA Solstice message boards. It is of course located somewhere in the house to section of the forums. After finding that information and watching the video as well as overlooking the PDF file and step-by-step schematic instructional, I then noticed that not only were the front panels differently Gap or Ultra Z set, but also the trunk lid was about an eighth of an inch a little bit too wide connecting to the rear buttress of the car. That one being flat and having the hinges easily accessible I opted to adjust the gap of the trunk first. One thing that you will notice on pretty much every Solstice, at least that I have seen since owning one myself, is that the panel over the front wheel Arch or rather behind it I should say on the passenger side where the battery sits just behind it that panel is always on every Solstice out of line because it has been removed more than any other panel on the car I presume.

@@camaro3gen I believe you! I have owned over 40 cars since 16 yrs old, a bit more than half of them have been sports cars, and I have found that just about every sports car has its own personality i.e., unique quirks that I personally enjoy uncovering and getting to know the car inside out. It's those subtle quirks that one only discovers while putting on the miles. Special quirks/personality on some are more intricate than others, and some are so much so that you cannot hand over the keys to just anyone and expect them to know how to manage them when/if such quirks arise. Then there are the 'known' issues that affect the majority of the cars straight off the production line. Such as the waterpump and or trapped air within the coolant system on the Solstice. The point I am heading for is that I have learned so much more I think then I have learned in the past with all my other cars, regarding my solstice. I love the fact that you could work on this car it reminds me very much of my 5.0 Mustangs however I will say this engine is deceivingly easy looking and by deceivingly I do mean deceivingly. LOL every time I go to do what seems like the simplest of things on this car it turns out to be a few hours maybe even days, shit ton of cursing, and having to buy one or two new tools. So the fact that you have owned 6 solstices I most definitely believe you when you say that you are sure the car has been in an accident.

I asked myself the same question when it happened lol. I was told it dyno’d at 350whp. And driving it, I believe it. But it was a crazy old school peaky feeling power band. No power down low, and then for about 2k RPM it pulled really hard and would blow the tires off. I was also worried it would come apart when I was driving it so I didn’t launch it like I would a new warrantied car. And between its used tires and my “private” road, it had no traction when the peaky power hit. 🤷‍♂️

I found the for sale add: “I am selling my 2007 Pontiac Silstice GXP Turbo 5 Speed. I have spared no expense on building this car. This Pontiac make over 370RWHP. This was going to be my retirement toy car, but I’m 6.6 and just cant get comfortable enough to drive it for more then 15 minutes! Too tall and dont want to cut the car up to make it fit me. I am the second owner on this Pontiac, it was owned by a retired gal before me and she put 40k+ miles on the car since it was new and then I got it a few years ago. This car is still in like new condition inside and out. This has not been my daily driver or a commute car. I have invested over $20k+ into this car and it really is an amazing vehicle to drive. This car has been professionally built and tuned with all of the top of the line parts. This car is extremley fast and very well handling while still retaining all of the original factory options. All of the upgrades have been done to the car to build a very well balanced performance machine. I have installed a Works upgraded custom EFR turbo with every upgrade on that turbo as well. The Solstice is running a very large 3.5 Inch Core Han RaceCraft Bar and Plate intercooler. This with Alluminum intercooler piping (much less restrictive then the OEM factory plumbing). This intercooler will support up to 700HP on this car if you can get the power that far, it will do it. I have installed the 3 Inch High FLow downpipe (no restricitons for extra spool and added power. Also have the 3 Inch High Flow Downpipe with the cat). The exhaust is a Magnaflow 3 Inch Catback with Dual Exit. Great sounding exhaust, I have added an aditional Vibrant Performance Resonator to give the exhaust a deeper throatier sound. It is not too loud, but doesn’t sound like a factory Solstice anymore! The Solstice comes with the Werks high capacity all alluminum race radiator. There are no cooling issues with this car even on the hottest days with the AC running! The driveline is all stock with the addition of the Werks Stage 2+ clutch kit. The Solstice has near stock clutch feel, you will be hard pressed to tell any difference in how it drives with this clutch, there is no difference in clutch pedal effort or engagement of the clutch. This clutch is rated at 440LBS of torque at the wheels. You still have room to go on this car! I have installed the FM 18×9.5 light weight performance wheels, it is a Square Setup and the car is running 295/30/18 Tires all around. That is a lot of tire for this little car, but you still have enough power to spin these huge tires in 1st and 2nd gear just going in a straight line! The brakes are a custom built Large 4 Pisont Race Willwood brakes (big calipers and this setup uses big brake pad as well) the rotors are approximate 13.5 inches and are 2 pice with aluminum hats and steel braided lines. The OEM ABS system works great with no issues with the bigger brakes. This car is very fast, but handles and stops on par with its engine performance, this is a very well balanced high performance car! The Suspension is stock with the Bilstine Sports shocks and H&R Lowering springs. Very comfortable ride with excellent handling. Pretty much every aspect of this car has been improved. All of the power work great. The AC is 100% functional, all the gauges work, no Check Engine Lights ETC. This is not a project or a kids car that was built in a garage on in the back yard. The Pontiac has been professionally built and tuned. No issues with the car! Please see the pictures to the car. It is in near mint condition. The paint is like new and so is the interior. This Solstice has been garaged all of its life and you can tell from looking at it and the way it drives. It has 45k+ original miles and less then 1,000 miles on all of the upgrades. I used all new parts to build this unique car. The Solstice has a Clean Title, Clean Car Fax History with no Accidents or Damage! Please leave me your contact information and I will get back to you ASAP.

One of the common complaints of the Solstice is the interior quality. However, the 2008 Chevy Malibu's interior is nearly identical down to the materials, yet peroid reviewers loved it but hated the Solstice's innards? I can't understand it.

I think it’s just funny how many cars from that era in GMs history had the same interiors. I have a C6 corvette video I’ll make public in a couple days. It has the Chevy Cobalt steering wheel and cheap plastic interior. But IMO that’s part of what makes it great. I’d rather it NOT be more expensive to have a better interior because at the end of the day it’s not an exotic or luxury car, it’s a somewhat affordable sports car. 🤷‍♂️🙂

Miata Is Always The Answer !!!! Horsepower isn't the answer fpr a roadster. Power to weight ratio is and balance front to rear. Miata is on the other end of the spectrum in quality and reliability. Ultra reliable compared to GM being average if you're lucky!

Come on man! It's a GM made car! LOLOLOL That says it right off! Plus, that water pump and flushing antifreeze/thermostat issue at such low miles is a factory defect! A BAD design blunder! You won't find that on any Miata!. They're the best selling sportscar in the world for a good reason. Power to weight ratio, and front/rear balance, it's over 500 lbs. lighter than the GM and on the other end of the spectrum in reliability! If the Solstice is such a good car, why did it only last 3 years and why did they sell so few? Because it went head to head with the Miata in sales, and because the Miata is such a superior piece of automotive craftsmanship, they outsold it hands down and GM couldn't afford to keep losing money on them. It would still be made today if they were a successful car. Simple as that! Take a Solstice to the track and a Miata and race them and see who schools the other in short time - The Miata will wipe it off the track. Without a doubt. See any Solstice's at the track, nope! But you see full events just for Miata's of all years.Add to all of this above - The Miata is cheaper too, and you can get a motorized hard top model for well under $15K with low miles.

SORRY.... but that is a stock GXP. No 400 HP there... just a CAI and pipes. and over-sized tires for show. Not a HP over the original 260 & 260 torque.... I have a 2007 GXP and it is the same in acceleration..... also $17.000 is way too high of a price.

@johnnyzee383
@johnnyzee383 7 ай бұрын
Incorrect...these cars have a detune situation if you try and modify them, however RPM Motorsports eliminates this, they also remove the speed limiter and increase rpm to 6700. The boost is increased to 24 from the stock 16 PSI, adding at least 80 HP. I know I have a 2007 GXP with the RPM Motorsports stage 2 tune, and it pulls quite a bit harder than the stock GXP as I have driven the stock GXP. The only thing is that there is turbo lag down low so each time you shift the car has to catch up to boost, but I dont care, it pulls very hard.
