Once you go to the lariat package you get the 4wa option. Personally I think that option should come standard in the xlt and up trim. GM offers it that way. I just bought a 2024 F-150 lariat. My wife drives it most of the time. She doesn’t know when she needs to put it in 4wd. I would have been fine with an xlt. But a happy wife is a happy life.

Thanks for the review. Our first Subaru is a very bare bones model Crosstrek which we have leased. We're actually going to buy it and give it to my mother-in-law because we think it'll be a good car for her. We're considering replacing it with an Outback (maybe Onyx) model. Things I've loved about the Crosstrek: *It handles almost all the off-road scenarios (of which I encounter fairly frequently) I've thrown at it surprising well! *It does amazingly well in the snow. *It has been reliable and easy. Things I don't really like: *No amenities (like key-in-pocket proximity unlocking and pushbutton start) *What I would describe as "twitchy" handling (cornering, sensitive accelerator and brakes that are difficult to modulate well) *Gutless acceleration when passing on a highway *Annoyingly old infotainment system *The stupid cruise control/EyeSight system that 1) only adjusts in 5 MPH increments unless you hold the switch and 2) brakes hard when another car moves into your lane even if that car is moving your speed or faster 3) lane centering/steering that is downright scary and possessive of the wheel when turned on. *What I'd consider poor MPG for such a relatively small car. I hope that at least SOME of these things will be improved in the Outback Onyx. I know the keyless opening/starting is a thing, and apparently it has wireless CarPlay which is at least a slight improvement on the infotainment. It seems to have only slightly worse fuel economy for being significantly larger. I think the cruise control adjustment is the same... Questions: *Does the adaptive cruise and EyeSight system respond to other traffic and is the lane-centering/steering as frighteningly poor as in the Crosstrek? *Does the Outback perform as well (or better) off-road or in snow? *What about the handling characteristics and accelerator/brake sensitivity? *Why are people so annoyed by the auto start/stop feature? I really don't mind this in the Crosstrek but maybe it's different in the Outback? *Anything other gripes or quirks I should know/consider?
@AutomotiveAnonymous208
@AutomotiveAnonymous208 Күн бұрын
Eyesight seems to do a really good job, especially if it’s the 3 camera system, but the older Crosstrek’s (I owned a 2019) definitely was worse than my 22 Outbacks. I also think the Outback is slightly better in snow due to a 3” longer wheelbase and a bit more weight to help it feel more stable. Acceleration and braking honestly feels pretty similar to me, but again the Outback is a bit heavier so you may notice that under hard braking and acceleration if they’re both 2.5 boxer trim levels. I would speculate that if you didn’t mind the auto start/stop feature you’ve already had you shouldn’t mind this either. It’s more just people either despite it or they don’t care haha. Otherwise, I don’t think a whole lot would surprise you from one Subaru to the next. The Outback just feels like the bigger more mature version of the Crosstrek in my opinion. Best of luck in whatever you decide to do!! 🙂

I believe Subaru will let you purchase the warranty up the the end of the included warranty. I might trade my 23 touring in for the hybrid so I'll wait till then to purchase. I have a 2014 that I just got the PTU in the 4wd replaced under a 3rd party warranty, kind of unbelievable. I 'va also had a transmission replaced under warranty by Jeep. Thats around 13k of repairs covered. Sometimes warranties pay off.
@AutomotiveAnonymous208
@AutomotiveAnonymous208 2 күн бұрын
I think you’re right, I have been told it’s more expensive if you wait until closer to the end of the 36k/36month bumper to bumper to purchase it. Especially with yearly inflation or warranty option packages being restructured periodically. But without sharing information I was told not to, I will say there’s a bit of wiggle room when negotiating with Subaru on their gold member warranty. 😉 Or someone could always call other Subaru dealerships and see if they can beat the current best offer one has received. That Jeep repair sounds like a huge payoff! I’m thrilled it worked out for you. I haven’t heard a 4wd/AWD system called a PTU since I use to read up on the Taurus SHO forums like 10 years ago, lol. I use to want one of those to modify, but I never went that route. Thanks for mentioning that!

When I said that it was real time reactions and I was basically just impressed that there’s finally no more mark up on top trim level vehicles like that. But after looking up the used one and its original MSRP I didn’t realize during filming how over priced the 2022 still was. In my more recent version of this video I speak to this as a lot of people have brought it up, and after more in depth thinking I stated it’s realistically worth probably 70k new, not 92 or whatever. Just like ZL1, Shelby, and Hellcats are worth about 70k. It is the same level as those vehicles.

@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 touché on that one. That 700 hp car would get 2 mpg and need a 502 bbc to make it. Many regulations and standards have done great things. The def ruined diesels and the harsher mpg restrictions put on smaller vehicles is the problem. What is your opinion in this scenario: - zero off-roading - lots of snow driving - don’t drive enough to worry about gas mileage too much - trips are occasionally long (comfort) - need a fair amount of cargo room for stuff - both would have winter tires - I want to keep this vehicle 12-15 years - 4Runner looks cooler, IMO what should I do?
@AutomotiveAnonymous208
@AutomotiveAnonymous208 3 күн бұрын
For most of those points I will say the Outback hands down is the more comfortable ride, much better acceleration, way safer in accidents, and handles snow much better. My only concern is they both ‘should’ last 12-15 years, but if the Subarus CVT goes out outside of warranty it’s ridiculously expensive to replace (like 10k). Otherwise the 4R has way better resale, but you might eat half the difference in bad fuel consumption. I’m also torn because I like the 4R and miss my old FJ Cruiser (basically a 2 door version of this platform) but in every day driving the Outback Wilderness is a much better car.

Subarus on good tires are literally like a video game cheat code in real life winter driving. To be fair my FJ had MT tired, which was horrible in snow. Even to the point I’d often have to put it into 4wd to get out of the street ice rut and pull into the driveway. Also one of the 4R that I’ve driven on my channel I think had Ko2s and in 2wd it felt useless in the snow (compared to my Subaru) and who wants to leave it in 4wd and constantly worry about shifting the transfer case. Although I suppose the Limited trim 4R is full time 4wd/AWD and that one might be decently better in snow, but idk. 🤷‍♂️

I recently picked up a '14 laguna blue vert, z51 w/ mag ride, 64k miles, MANUAL. This car is a friggin blast. I am retired and take it out for a 50-60 mile ride almost every day. Can't believe how well it holds corners with zero body roll. It sticks like glue and handles almost any road. Deep pot holes let you know you hit them but on reasonably smooth roads it rides really well. The seat leather is cracked and no replacements are available. Door arm rest and right arm rest (cubby cover) have permanent dents from arms resting on them. That is the sum of the issues with the car. Well designed in almost every respect and both design and quality are holding up well. 'Vettes are very reasonable to keep running and very reliable. I changed the plugs, serpentine belt, belt tensioner, air filters(s) (engine and cabin), changed out clutch fluid and total cost was ~$180. Brake pads and rotors are very reasonable, clutches are quite robust with very few owners reporting any issue with them. Tires are expensive--stay away from run-flats due to: noise, harsh ride, noise, poorer handling, and noise. Always keep a 'vette aligned or you will be replacing those expensive tires every 5,000 miles. Acceleration is fantastic and an absolute blast! Live in Maine and the windy roads with rises and falls make aggressive driving bring a grin to your face every time. Yes I'm expecting to have at least 1 to 2 tickets by the end of summer but that's just a tax on aggressive driving and if that's what it takes then so be it! If you're thinking of one, buy it--you won't be disappointed! So much nicer interior than my c6 4LT.

A 7’ bed sounds like a useful length. My first truck was a 2013 Tacoma regular cab 2.7 i4/5 speed I ordered new. Being the regular cab it was only offered as the same 6’ bed as yours. I miss that truck, it was obviously a very light duty truck but the proportions were great and it could get up to 28mpg. Unfortunately I didn’t order it as a 4wd, hence the mpg, and at that time the 2wd suspension was still lowered than the 4x4, which I never loved. Today that same 4Runner TRD Offroad is $55k. I also learned that dealers are selling stripped down 4Runner TRD Pros at full market price. I checked one out that just came off the hauler truck 2024 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro. It was missing the TRD CAI, TRD Performance Exhaust and TRD Pro engine guard plate. The sticker price was $59k and when i brought that to the dealers attention he said this is the way Toyota offers the TRD Pro now. I replied with not true and showed him other dealers in a 200 mile area with the same 4Runner TRD Pro having all of those items. The dealer said well this is what we got and cannot lower the price.
