1. Find a spot that’s 1.5 cars long 2. Signal to the right 3. Line up your rear bumpers with the car to your right 4. Turn your wheel all the way to the right and start backing for about a foot until 5. Hood is pointed to a 10 o clock position and your right window pillar is lined up tho the other cars back light 6. Unwind your wheel all the way to the left and continue backing into the spot 7. Straighten out vehicle and try leave about 3 feet in the front and back for courtesy

The 10 o'clock really helped me master it. Everyone else kept talking about 30 0r 45 degree angles and that always confused me. This video was extremely helpful. I recently obtained my Drivers License in NYC at the end of August and passed on my first try! This video helped me a lot with the parallel parking bit, especially the 10 o'clock reference and 1ft of reversing once you're in that 10 o'clock position. I also positioned my right side mirror (I was asked to parallel park on a oneway street but on the right side) to be a little lower than usual so I could see the curb when backing up. If you can no longer see the edge of the curb in your mirror then you've backed up way too far. Side mirrors are our friends and they are highly vital for parallel parking! Thanks Juliana for sharing this with us! :)

I live in a large urban city and parking spaces are usually super tight bc there’s a lot of cars and not enough parking... like an open parking space can fit one car and have buffer of maybe one ft each at the front and back. I usually go around blocks to find “easier” spots even if it risks my safety having to walk a bit home late at night. 😩 Can you give some tips for parallel parking in a tight spot?
@AutomotiveWoman3 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Wow this is suckie to read, I typically park far away from cars because many people here in Canada hit the side of your doors when they open their doors. I'm guessing underground parking isn't a consideration in your area? Juliana

I used to live in a city with no spots either or they were really tight. My tip, Once you’re kinda in the spot just go back and forth a little at a time, back and forth turning the wheel as necessary and you should be able to get it in.. I’ve parked in some tight spots like that.

Hi Dessy, yes, u can turn your wheel all the way left as well during a parallel park, it all depends on which side of the road your trying to park.

Its easy! You got this! Use your turning signals, put your hands in the right place, and look for the lights and signs. All good! 👍👍👍 Juliana

What is the "right window pillar"? Do you mean the C pillar or the pillar at the side of the rear window? That bit has really confused me as I don't see how any of the side pillars could ever be lined up with the brake light of the other car...

How do we find the 10 o’clock position to start parallel park pls
@AutomotiveWoman Жыл бұрын
Buy a watch with a dial (handle). Position the handle at the 10oclock marker, and then you've found the correct position.

How will I know if it will hit the car in front as I get in?
@AutomotiveWoman Жыл бұрын
When parallel parking, turn your wheels all the way to the right and reverse slowly. Check your side mirror and rearview for the car in front. Adjust as needed to avoid a collision. Practice makes perfect!
