Automower Service Tip: Wear Rubber Gloves When Using A Good Tone Tester For Finding Wire Breaks

The best way to find breaks, partial breaks, and high resistance in an Automower's boundary wire is to use a good tone tester. The tester that we use is powered by 8 D batteries so it sends a pretty strong current through the wire being tested. And that power is looking for a way to get back to ground.......which in some cases can mean going through you. When pulling up on the buried wire, if the broken end comes out of the ground and touches you bare skin while any bare skin is touching the grass or dirt, that current is going through you to ground out and that's where you get that surprising quick shock that feels like a few large bees stinging you at once. The easy way to prevent little "shocking" surprise from happening is by simply wearing a thin rubber glove on the hand that is going to be touching the wire.
