This Webinar is the second in this series and will address the range of technology in each vessel's sensor suite and related aspects. Topics to be covered include:
how resilient positioning, navigation, timing and communications are addressed;
limitations of current navigation systems and potential augmentations and enhancements;
evolution of aids to navigation as autonomous and remotely-piloted vessel use increases;
shore-based infrastructure to support MASS;
human factors including sensory overload and related challenges.
About the speakers:
Ann Pletschke is Managing Director of Trinity Maritime Ltd. Ann is a Chartered Master Mariner, Chartered Marine Technologist and Associate Fellow of the Nautical Institute. After a successful seagoing career worldwide, Ann spent seven further years outside the UK holding management positions globally for maritime and oil and gas organisations. Returning to the Solent region in 2020, Ann took up the position of Chief Vessel Operator with Ocean Infinity, Southampton. Last year Ann became MD of Trinity Maritime and also volunteers for the Solent-region based maritime charity Safer Waves.
David Pollitt is Capability Development Manager and Advanced Systems and Innovation Lead at OSI Maritime Systems. David is a specialist in submarine navigation, electronic navigation systems, digital charting and training. David recently completed over 40 years of full career commission in the Royal Navy.
Thomas Southall is Technical Officer at IALA, responsible for managing and coordinating the technical output of IALA committees. Previously, Tom oversaw the Port of London Authorities (PLA) Vessel Traffic Services (VTS), which encompassed the UK's largest and most diverse waterway, combining a high profile city centre, port and costal sectors. Tom's earlier career included serving as Navigational Officer on survey vessels in the Merchant Navy. He is a Fellow of the RIN and Younger Brother of Trinity House.
