I don't know about the US but in the UK you would have to declare that as a vehicle modification to your insurer. Without that declaration your insurance could be invalid in the event of an accident! I guess you could be paying high premiums as a result of declaring the modification!

Wow, I missed your first video on Comma 3. I had no idea you could add hardware similar to "Super Cruise" for less than GM offers Super Cruise. I looked it up and it only costs $1,450. That is really good to know. I really think that semi-autonomous assistant features are as far as I want to go. Driving a car is far too complex for a claimed fully autonomus system (i.e. Tesla's FSD!) to handle and give your life over to. I want to be in control of my own life, but I could use some assistance now and then.
@JosephHowes20036 ай бұрын
FSD is really good now. As long as you pay attention so you can take over when needed it should be safer than you driving yourself. It's getting close to where you won't have to pay attention though.
@Jeff-wb3hh6 ай бұрын
@@JosephHowes2003 If that is true, that tells me it's not "Full Self Driving". But it actually is not true. Reviewers in autoevolution, the latest version of FSD that just came out in late June is actually worse than the previous version, one avid Tesla fan reviewer said in that article titled "Tesla FSD V12.4.2 Still a Disappointment, Owners Blame Reviewers for Telling the Truth", that came out July 2.
@JosephHowes20036 ай бұрын
@@Jeff-wb3hh I don't expect perfection right now. It's close to perfect. It does the vast majority of my driving very well. The areas where it struggles you get a feel for when to expect issues ahead of time. The issues are usually just that it takes too long to leave a stop sign so I tap the accelerator. I don't care that they call it "Full Self Driving" before it's completely autonomous. It can do almost everything but on rare occasion you have to take over or, more accurately, you'll want to because it's too conservative.

Very interesting, Nikki. Thank you. Unless the "industry" engineers a way to stop it, can imagine 3rd party auto-pilot software/hardware systems to be common in say 20 years time. That is assuming FSD/BC type systems remain expensive on new vehicles.

@firestar44306 ай бұрын
If you have a non-acc bolt, you need the comma 3X and a GM harness. That's it for lateral/wheel control. If you want longitudinal control as well ("gas" and brake), you need a pedal interceptor from tinybear's Etsy shop, and a 10ft, flat CAT5e/CAT6 Ethernet cable. I also believe the new GM harnesses from comma don't come with an Ethernet port anymore, so you'll need to buy the GM harness from a distributor that still puts the Ethernet port on them (that's how the pedal communicates with the system).

This is very promising. As a Tesla owner and FSD subscriber I'm a little bias towards other US based systems. One or more of the Chinese ADAS systems are good. I find that this systems and other iterations of it on the hardware still require too much physical interaction for me. This one being able to change lanes and costing a fraction of the cost of what Tesla's Enhanced Autopilot used to cost is something people should consider even if all you use this for is highway driving on a daily basis or for long road trips.

I've always had an early adopter's mindset, yet somehow semi-autonomous autopilot has found me leery. This video is the first exposure I've had to it in any detail, and it is exciting to see the tech evolution. I love what's happening in tech growth. I doubt I'll ever use this tech because I fear I'd develop some bad habits. Perhaps in time I'll change my mind. It feels weird to not want the newest thing.
@KineticEV6 ай бұрын
Tesla Autopilot on the highway for road trips is a game changer. You don't realize how bad you might be driving or how bad others around you drive until you use it. Also you have to be ready to take control so there really isn't a moment where you don't have complete control. FSD is different. Instead driving straight, maintaining a particular speed and keeping its distance, you're asking and trusting the AI to make human level decisions beyond basic Autopilot. You still have to be ready to takeover but while it has certainly come a long way it still does some squirly things it shouldn't do or that is illegal to do. But the moment you experience a full drive say from work to home with no issues you become hooked and want to use it more. But I still think that if all one wanted to use was the basic highway driving capabilities and takeover and do their own around town ddriving then that is a wise decision too.

Really interesting and innovative. Is it NHTSA and/ or IIHS approved? If not I expect insurance will be void due to the modification, regardless which vehicle caused the accident. I am concerned that TE reviews/recommendations miight expose TE to legal action. Take care and check your insurance.

Cute title-but, it's about time you tried Tesla's "FSD-supervised" version 12.4.2 or 12.3.6 if you can get your hands on a car with it. (But turn off auto-speed-control, because it speeds like a hooligan) It really showcases the value of moving from a code-driven software model to an AI-driven model. You still have to supervise it diligently, as the software is still being refined; however, it is so human-like and capable now that I think you, as someone who would appreciate the progress it has made, would be mind-blown. The last several iterations have been giant leaps forward, small regressions, then more giant leaps forward. We are getting to the point where you can set a destination anywhere (across town, through complex roads and interchanges), and it will take you there in an unbelievably human-like fashion with likely zero need for intervention or disengagement. And, the latest versions let you prove attentiveness by looking forward at the road, rather than keeping steering pressure with a hand on the wheel.
