Timing chains should never have to be replaced. Maybe a chain tensioner but never a chain unless some manufacturers defect or the oil jas never been changed but if that was the case you'd have way more problems than a timing chain.

Great videos guys, very educational. I have two questions. 1) how clean was the inlet manifold and inlet valves being a GDI? 2) would you consider the engine damage was due to the trend of using _X20 grade oils? Would a W30 or 40 have saved this engine? Thanks so much for your videos.

Thanks for the nice videos. I am changing the timing chain on my hyundai accent. It is very similar to the elantra. I have a couple of questions. 1) when you adjusted the colored links of the chain with the marks, you had to rotate the exhaust camshaft and the crankshaft a little bit. This caused the TDC marks on the CVVTs not to be aligned any more. Does this mean the engine is not in time?! 2) what is the reason you had to rotate the engine 2 revolutions after installing the new chain? Thanks
@arkadiuszbalcer97025 жыл бұрын
When timing chain is old or used it gets a little bit longer even if is tight thats why they had to change position a little bit. Its normal that engine can be a little bit out of time with old chain
@husseinsaad13813 жыл бұрын
If u turn engine twice the engine has gone through its four strokes and if marks are still aligned after turning twice then you have confirmed that you timed the engine correctly

Should last the life of the engine if you're doing oil changes in time and using quality oil. You can hear the slapping or ticking noise from your engine if your chain is stretched.
@najachisam6 жыл бұрын
why the chain jump like that when you was turning it ?
@adamstephens96116 жыл бұрын
Because there is no oil pressure on the tensioner, he even said it in the video. When the car is reassembled and is turned on, it won't jump like that

@andrewsantana16604 жыл бұрын
U don't need to replace thats why im wondering why is he replacing
@ajm1142 жыл бұрын
You only replace it when you need to sort of deal. E.g: timing jumps randomly, odd noises or misfiring. And it usually only happens due to poor maintenance or if your engine was running dangerously low on oil. Tho changing it at 200k miles wouldn't hurt for prevention if you really wanted to keep the engine going if you wanted to be a perfectionist. Recommend a good cleaning the intake valves too. Since those two are the weakest link of these engines specially GDI.
