This video is helpful as far as the process but typically the hardest part about replacing something on your car is getting to it and most of us aren’t missing the front end of our car. Insightful though, thanks.

Yo I have a question…I know this video is 5 years old. But I picked up an old 09 N54 Coupe and I immediately noticed that the Pulley or “Balancer” was hanging off the block and mis aligned with the hole where the screw goes. What do you think caused that and is the engine fried?

Why did he mark the crankshaft pulley and the bolt with the silver marker before removing it? Does the pulley need to be installed at a certain position?
@AdrianKurnyta6 жыл бұрын
I've been thinking about the same thing. I'm going to my local library to see if the AllData databases mention anything about it. I'm going reply again if I find something worth mentioning.

@@AdrianKurnyta usually theres a allinment peg on the pulley so you can only put the pulley on one way. And Alldata doesent support bmws

I'm replacing the pulley in the next few days but I'm really struggling as to why to mark the pulley as it's similar all around the pulley, so how can it be installed in the wrong position?

You don’t need to mark it, he even said it if you listen back, has nothing to do with timing as long as center bolt is NOT REMOVED!

My serpentine belt shredded and now there's a ton of belt behind the crankshaft pulley, it's stuck so hard in there I will have to take this pulley off to clean it up.. Except my front end is still on the car, so hopefully there's room.
@dyamimc4 жыл бұрын
I know this is late, but did you fix it? My car is stuck on the side of the street with this EXACT issue. I’m in the process of taking off the crankshaft pulley to get the rest of the shreds out
@EddieKM4 жыл бұрын
@@dyamimc yes I fixed it. It is pretty easy to get the crankshaft pulley out, 6 torx bolts. make sure you have the torx socket, I believe it's T27 but Don't quote me on that. Could be T30. Easy job, there was so much shredded belt behind it it's not even funny. Make sure none of the belt went inside the engine there, or your crankshaft seal didn't get screwed up.
@EddieKM4 жыл бұрын
On a side note, I did get the belt on, the car ran for 3 days, and the belt snapped again. I had a missing bolt on the power steering pump. It's a common issue apparently, so make sure your power steering pump has the torx screws at the bottom or it can vibrate and snap your belt.
@omarcarranza89734 жыл бұрын
Eddie is there a specific way to put it back in with torque specs? Or you just tighten it as much as you can?
@EddieKM4 жыл бұрын
@@omarcarranza8973 You mean the bolts on the power steering? I used locktite on them, and tightened them, not too hard or you'll snap one. I forgot what the torque was for those, look up a power steering video and they might mention the spec when they tighten them.

hi I haveRight hand drive ( NZ NEW) BMW 2006 120d turbo diesel with broken crankshaft pulley. i would like advice on how to replace this item i could not find a video on your website that explains this. i have a question: is it a right or left hand thread on the 22mm bolt that holds the pulley, can you supply the tool that holds the pulley while breaking the bolt? and do you have instructional video on how to remove the front end and radiator to get easy access

@robbieshaft4 жыл бұрын
Kev Cat hi Kev. Yeah mine were quite rusty also but they could’ve been reused I’d say. You can buy a Febi Bilstein pulley with just the pulley or they have one for a few quid extra supplied with the bolts. If you can get this one it would be better as I was wary of the old bolts snapping

This was a big help, I just took mine of today and have the balancer coming this weekend. Found one on eBay for like $70. Mine had a bad wobble to it. I also have a n54 from my 335i, I believe the engine in the video is a n52. But it's the same process and same sizes mentioned in the video Update: the new balancer didnt fix the wobble. Anyone have any ideas on how to tighten a crankshaft bolt on automatic transmission 335i? The bolt will just keep spinning even if in drive.

Instead of all this complications, simply use an impact gun, cuts the job to a fraction
@kevcat86554 жыл бұрын
But that's what he used towards the end. You don't want to go and use impact gun everywhere all the time, the high torque can damage the threads. It pays to treat the engine carefully IMO
